Abstract---Wireless
technology
improvement has become follower in
todays modern life. One of the
greatest improvements made on
wireless technology field was inventing
a new Wireless Technology (Gi-Fi).
Gi-Fi or Gigabit Wireless is the
worlds first transceiver integrated on
a single chip that operates at 60GHz
on the CMOS process.
Gi-Fi is a wireless transmission system
which is ten times faster than Wi-Fi
and its chip delivers short-range
multi-gigabit data transfer in an
indoor environment. It will allow
wireless transfer of audio and video
data up to 5 gigabits per second, low
power consumption, usually within a
range of 10 meters .This technology
providing low-cost, high broadband
access, with very high speed large files
exchange within seconds. It is required
that Gi-Fi to be the preferred next
generation wireless technology used in
home and offices.

I . INTRODUCTION
Melbourne University researchers have
achieved up to 5Gbps data transfer rates
on a wireless chip. This is a lot faster
than any current Wi-Fi speeds. The
world's first Gi-Fi wireless network chip
developed at Australia's peak federal
technology incubator has entered its
commercialisation phase.
The NICTA (National ICT Australia
Limited) Gi-Fi research team has
succeeded in taking complex 60GHz
transmission technology and shrinking it
to the point where it can be built on a
single silicon chip. The NICTA teams
expertise in wireless transmission
technology means this technology is now
at the point where it can have a dramatic
impact on the way consumer electronic
devices are used in the home. The GiFi
chip is a good news for personal area
networking because there is no internet
infrastructure available to cop it with. It
can have a span of 10 meters. With the
help of Gi-Fi chips the videos sharing
can be possible without any hurdles. The
Gi-Fi chip is one of Australia's most
lucrative technology. Gi-Fi or Gigabit

E. Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is based on the IEEE 802.11
wireless local area network (WLAN)
specification. Actually it was designed to
be used indoors at close range for
example home user and office
environment. The main goal of Wi-Fi
technology is to provide service for
mobile computing device like laptop.

G. Gi-Fi
Gi-Fi technology provides many features
such as ease of deployment, small form
factor, enabling the future of information
management, high speed of data transfer,
low
power consumption etc. With
growing consumer adoption of HighDefinition (HD) television, low cost chip
and other interesting features and
benefits of this new technology it can be
predicted that the anticipated worldwide
market for this technology is vast.

III. WHY Gi-Fi IS THE BEST

TECHNOLOGY
When telling people to migrate from WiFi or Wi-Max to Gi-Fi, the question you
usually hear is why. There are actually a
few good reasons to move to the new
technology:
A. The process of Gi-Fi would use a chip
that transmits at an extremely high
60GHz frequency versus the 5GHz
used for the fastest forms of Wi-Fi .

B. Mixing and signal filtering used in

Gi-Fi technology would keep the
signal strong versus the longerranged but slower and more dropprone Wi-Fi option of today.
C. The GiFi uses the short-range
wireless
technology
would
potentially be a competitor or more
than likely a replacement for WiFi,
and things like Bluetooth might want
to look out as well.

IV. ADVANTAGES OF GI-FI

The valuable advantages of the
Gi-Fi technology can be
abbreviated as follows:
A. Profitable Chip
The chip in Gi-fi would likely cost
about $10 or less to build a small
design would allow cell phones and

other small devices to add the

technology without significantly
drive up the price, according to the
company. As go on development the
price will be decreased.

B. Small in size
The size of the Gi-Fi chip is 55
millimetre and can be placed in
different devices
such as mobile
phones. The chip has a tiny 1mm
antenna and uses the 60GHz
millimetre-wave spectrum.

C.

Faster Data Transmission

Gi-Fi is a wireless transmission system

which is ten times faster than Wi-Fi and
its chip delivers short-range multi-gigabit
data transfer in an indoor environment. It
will allow wireless transfer of audio and
video data up to 5 gigabits per second.

D. Low Power Consumption

As the large amount of information
transfer it utilizes mili-watts of power
only. Power consumption of the present
technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
are 5mili watts and 10mili watts but chip
of Gi-Fi uses a tiny one-millimetre-wide
antenna and it has less than 2mili watts of
power consumption that in compare to the
current technologies is very less.

E. Security
Gi-Fi technology is based on IEEE
802.15.3C and this standard provides
more security since it provides optional
security in the link level and service
level. Point-to-point
wireless systems
operating at 60 GHz have been used for
many years by the intelligence
community
for
high
security
communications and by the military for
satellite-to satellite communications.

V. APPLICATION OF GI-FI
If all the computers in your house are
connected to a Gi-Fi network, you can
easily connect your smart phone to the
same network and control them.
Consumers could typically download a
high definition movie from a kiosk in a
matter of seconds to music player or
smart phone and having got home could
play it on a home theatre system or store

it on a home server for future viewing,

again within a few seconds, high speed
internet access, streaming content
download (video on demand, HDTV,
home theatre, etc.), real time streaming
and wireless data bus for cable
replacement. It makes the wireless home
and office of the future. There's no
reason to have five different printers in
your house just so you can print in any
room. Instead of constantly plugging and
unplugging the printer from your laptop,
you can print wirelessly from any
computer. By using present technologies
video swapping takes hours of time,
whereas by this we can transfer at a
speed of Gbps. Data transfer rate is same
for transfer of information from a PC to
a cell or a cell to a PC. It can enable
wireless monitors, the efficient transfer
of data from digital camcorders, wireless
printing of digital pictures from a camera
without the need for an intervening
personal computer and the transfer of
files among cell phone handsets and
other handheld devices like personal
digital audio and video players.

VI. CONCLUSIONS

Without
doubt,
Gi-Fi
wireless
technology represents a considerable
improvement if compared to the existing
technology. The new
technology
provides innumerable features that
improve both the overall functionality as
well as some specific security functions.
Thus we conclude by all above gaining
information
that
Gi-Fi
wireless
technology is advance in many matter
by the existing wireless technology. GiFi technology is defined that will allow
wireless transfer of audio and video data
up to 5 gigabits per second, ten times the
current maximum wireless transfer rate,
at one-tenth of the cost, usually within a
range of 10 meters that operates at
60GHz on the CMOS process. This
technology removes cables that for many

years curled the world and provides

high speed data transfer rate. Finally,
I would like to state that even though
Gi-Fi wireless network technology

have a huge potential we will only get

the best of them .
