CHILLED WATER BUFFER TANKS

Amtrol ASME Chilled Water Buffer Tanks add capacity to non-potable, closed, chilled water
systems to help reduce compressor unit cycling, improve temperature control and provide
more consistent system operation. An internal baffle forces incoming water to flow
up and over the baffle for proper water circulation. All Amtrol Chilled Water Buffer
Tanks are made in the USA at our ISO 9001:2008 registered facilities.

Chilled Water Buffer Tank CWBT Series

Meets all ASME Section VIII, Division I standards.
Available up to 1,040 gallons.
Connections from 3" to 12".
Maximum Working Pressure: 125 psig.
Maximum Operating Temperature: 450 F.

How It Works

Water enters the buffer tank and is diverted up and over

the internal baffle to circulate the water and take full
advantage of the tank volume.

Required Information for Properly Sized Chilled Water Buffer Tank
Volume of Buffer Tank = (C x VR) - VA
C = Total Chiller Capacity in Tons = C
VR = Chiller Manufacturers Recommended

System Volume per Ton

VA = Actual System Volume in Gallons

Check with Chiller Manufacturer for specific requirements.

Typical HVAC chiller systems are between 3 to 6 gallons per

ton and 6 to 10 gallons are used for applications in which
temperature accuracy is critical.

Example:

C = 100
VR = 10

Vol. of Buffer Tank = (C x VR) - VA

Vol. = (100 x 10) - 800

Vol. = (1000) - 800

Vol. = 200 gallons (Select tank equal to or greater.)
