strong religion.

2.2 Norms and Believe
In the past, Gayo society have formulated their principles of traditions that is
called Kemalun ni Edet. These tradition principles consist of self esteem (shy) that
have to be guard, applied and be maintained by certain relative group, family group,
clan, and even bigger groups.
There are four tradision principles, that is
a. Denie-terpancang is a self esteem that regards to our rights of a territory.
b. Naha Teraku is a self esteem that regards to a valid position.
c. Bela mutan is a self esteem that is disturbed because of another member of
that group that has been hurt or even murderd

d. Malu tertawan is a self esteem that is disturbed because of women from a

member of their group been disturb or been slander by others.
Like other society in highland, the characteristic of Gayo is more calmly and not
always expressive compare other society of Aceh on the seaside. So dont worry to
ask or to start a conversasion with peoples of Gayo because they really like guest,
with note still maintaining their local tradision.

Famous Gayo Society firmly implement the Islamic Sharia with its own local
wisdom. Despite massive Shariah law enforcement is not as tight as in Banda Aceh,
Aceh or other coastal regions. So, do not be surprised if in Takengon highlands or
you do not see as much of Sharia police in Banda Aceh, Islamic nuances are felt in
the city. There are no specific rules to enjoy the beautiful city of Takengon and the
Gayo highlands. Pretty dress modestly, then the public will accept you in Gayo with a
warm smile.
Cultural value system Gayo put esteem (mukemel) as a primary value. To
achieve the level of self-esteem, one must practice or refer to a number of supporting
value: tertip (rules / obey the rules), setie (commitment), Semayang-gemasih
(sympathetic), mutentu (professional), amanah (integrity), the genap-mupakat
(democratic), alang-Tulung (empathic). To realize the development of the seven
value drivers support necessary values, which according Melalatoa (1982) called the
competitive spirit to do good, bersikekemelen. Here's a brief description of the
proposed system value.

Setie means committed, steadfast or loyal establishment. This word refers to an

attitude that is not easy to give up on behalf of the truth believed. Commitment

the commitment shared loyalty is key to the completion of any heavy challenges. In
the words of others mentioned, ike Musara Jemma ate, ungke feels gule. Ike church

The cultural value of Gayo is this attitude mutual assistance, as reflected in the
expression of alang-tolong berat-berbantu. This value confirms the existence of
