MESSAGE FROM
THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR

As we celebrate our remarkable journey spanning ten glorious years, its heartening to
see that Great Lakes Institute of Management has succeeded in carving a niche for itself
among the top tier management institutions in the country.

Aided by the
latest technology,
a continually
evolving
curriculum, and
constant corporate
interaction, our
students are
transformed from
being first class
management
students into
astute Thought
Leaders who are
ready to take on
the challenges
of the corporate
world, both in
India and abroad.

With an emphasis on creating Day One Business Ready Managers & future Corporate
Leaders, Great Lakes has undertaken a revolutionary design in management education
through an innovative one year program for students with significant prior work experience
equipped to take the fullest advantage of the exceptionally rigorous and demanding nature
of the customized curriculum. With its collaborative arrangements with Business Schools
across the globe, a supporting pool of visiting and adjunct faculty from top International
B-Schools across the globe - a wish list of faculty from Kellogg, Stanford, Harvard, IIT
Chicago, Yale, Manchester, SUNY, Miami, Georgia State, Texas, SMU and supported by a
group of core faculty who have excelled themselves in the finest B Schools, Great Lakes is
the embodiment of underlying philosophy of Global Mindset, Indian Roots.
At Great Lakes, we encourage learning by doing. The culture in Great Lakes facilitates not
only learning from academicians and eminent industry captains but peer learning as well.
Aided by the latest technology, a continually evolving curriculum, and constant corporate
interaction, our students are transformed from being first class management students
into astute Thought Leaders who are ready to take on the challenges of the corporate
world, both in India and abroad. In addition, every institutional activity bears the imprint of
student efforts in the form of various Committees and Clubs mentored by faculty.
We have always responded to the pressing needs of our time and today, and keeping
that in mind we have introduced a new specialization last year in Business Analytics. In
a wired world where six degrees of separation is being squeezed daily by proliferation of
Big Data, Analytics is the next career opportunity to drive the Indian growth story and as
usual Great Lakes is ahead of the curve. The feedback from the industry has been a three
cheers to our unique innovation that has resulted in a flurry of excitement and job offers
for our graduates in the fastest growing new field of endeavor. We have also introduced
dual degree program for PGPM with the University of Bordeaux which offers our students
unparalleled access to the European markets for opportunities.
Like the old days at the great port of Mamallapuram, where great Indian explorers set out
on voyages of discovery and adventure, Great Lakes offers you an unparalleled experience
of 365 days of learning that enriches for you entire life and an enduring bond of friendship,
and camaraderie of the best B School graduates in the country ready to set out on their
corporate journeys. It is my pleasure to invite you to join this batch.

MESSAGE FROM
THE ADMISSIONS DIRECTOR

Dont handicap your children by making their lives easy.

- Robert A. Heinlein, Celebrated American Sci-Fi Writer

We are
celebrating our
10th anniversary
this year and still
enjoy the status of
a young school.
In fact, we are
the youngest
school in India
and one of
the youngest
globally to get
the prestigious
AMBA (Association
of MBAs, UK)
accreditation
for the PGPM
program.

In todays evolving global business environment, life is not expected to be easy. In every
industry, change is the only defining constant. Let us take a few illustrative examples.
The Indian IT industry which grew on a linear headcount driven model and built its first
100 billion USD revenue is now poised to switch to a niche technology driven nonlinear growth path to fuel its second innings of growth. With a rapidly sliding Average
Revenue per User (ARPU) over the last decade, the telecom industry is looking towards
volume driven new growth markets at the bottom end of the pyramid and value driven
niche mobility solutions markets at the top end. Traditional retail industry is facing the
onslaught of e-tailing, if the valuation stories of some of the new Indian e-tail companies
are any indicators. Even a casual watch over the markets is sufficient to understand
the sea-change that is happening. The business space is transforming and so are the
business drivers.
So where does all this leave you? That you are reading this brochure is a fairly strong
indicator that you have felt the need to change too to upgrade your skillsets and add more
marketability to your resume - which is all very good. Now, let me proceed to enlighten you on
what you may expect in the one year that you spend with us at Great Lakes. For starters, we are
celebrating our 10th anniversary this year and still enjoy the status of a young school.
In fact, we are the youngest school in India and one of the youngest globally to get the
prestigious AMBA (Association of MBAs, UK) accreditation for the PGPM program.
As your first point of contact to this great school of experiential learning, let me assure
you that as a Business School, we not only understand the compelling realities of the
business world but also craft our courses around them. In the challenging times that
the global economy is today, we guarantee to equip each of you with the most rigorous
academic tools to enable you to hit the road running. We have no intention of making
your life easy for the 12 months that you are here! The academic rigor and the industry
relevance that we bring in is one of a kind. Your classmates would typically have an
average work experience of 36-48 months. This apart, the geographic, linguistic, sectorial
and gender diversity in the Great Lakes PGPM classroom remains unmatched. From
working to networking, we encourage you to play hard!
Our Dean Dr. Bala always states, We are not in the space of churning our Business
Administrators. We are in the rarified space of creating Business Ready Leaders who
will build tomorrows India. As the schools Admissions Director it is my pleasure and
privilege to welcome you to Great Lakes Institute of Management. We promise you an
exciting 12 months of learning and experiencing.

LEADERSHIP
EXPERIENTIAL
PROJECT :
KARMA-YOGA
KARMA-YOGA, a Leadership Experiential Program
(LEP) is an integral part of the Post Graduate Program
in Management (PGPM) and Post Graduate Diploma in
Management (PGDM) at Great Lakes. The project, under
the aegis of Yale Great Lakes centre for Management
Reseach is a unique medium for students to connect with
ground realities and experientially learn transformational
leadership.
There are 21 villages surrounding the institutes campus
that have been adopted by Great Lakes for the LEP. The
project creates a mutual win-win situation for both the
students and the villages - while the villages get budding
managers to enable the villagers to lift themselves into
their better selves, the students acquire a first-hand
understanding of what it means to create followers and
transform them.
Karma Yoga believes in not giving fish to the needy;
instead teaching them how to fish. Students visit
these Karma Yoga villages every week with a mission
to enhance the self-esteem and self-efficacy of the
villagers, so that they are able to lead a better quality life.
LEP is a real life practical lab to learn and experience the
power of transformational leadership with the key focus
on education, health, agriculture, and small business.

BUSINESS IS FOR REAL :

THE EMPIRICAL STUDY

Empirical study is an excellent means to demonstrate Great

Lakes firm belief that the best way for students to advance their
knowledge is to question conventions and established frameworks.
The empirical study requirement achieves the institutes mission of
creating business-ready managers by enabling every student to do a
real life study under the guidance of the best people from the industry
and academics. Doing joint work with the faculty is an important form
of learning for the students. The most practical benefit of writing an
empirical article is that one learns how to actually persuade and
convince others - by culling out relevant information, gathering and
analyzing data, and presenting the output to support ones stand.
The empirical study is counted as six credits of student input.
The expected outcome of the empirical study is a paper co-authored
by the student with the faculty / industry guide.
Some of the past empirical studies have been presented in
conferences in India and abroad.
