Choosing this Course
If after A Levels, you want to go onto Art College, e.g. a Foundation Course
and a degree course, then you should choose this 2 Year option. You would
then be qualified to take up any career involving Art & Design. The 1 Year AS
Level would be appropriate if you want to follow a 2 Year BTEC type course
afterwards, or take up employment with an Art focus or just want to combine
it with another AS course.
Course Content
This course provides a broad based introduction to Art and Design studies,
focusing on thematic enquiry, expressive studies, an externally set assignment,
contextual studies, problem solving, and an independent study. There is a
strong emphasis on observational drawing and exploration of a wide range of
two dimensional and three dimensional techniques. It is vital that students are
willing to visit galleries and collect resources independently. Students will be
required to provide some basic art materials. Units 1 and 2 form the AS
qualification and all 4 Units form the full A Level course.
Career Opportunities
With an A Level in Art, students may go onto a one year Art Foundation course
which can then be followed by a wide range of degree level courses at
University. The creative industries are varied but potential careers include:
Graphic Designer, Stylist, Painter, Illustrator, Architect, Animator, Fashion
Design, Interior Design, Product Designer, Jewellery designer, Textile Designer,
Fine Art Photographer, Visual Merchandiser.

Whatever you do in your professional life, the chances are that it will involve
some business. Scientists, engineers, even artists, will inevitably have to
understand at least the basics of business, and probably a lot more. A Business
A Level gives students the opportunity to study business through primary
research by way of off-site visits with the aim of completing investigations into
certain aspects of business. In addition to this, students will learn the theory
and skills needed to complete external examinations.
Course Content
AS and A Level Applied Business courses enable candidates to develop both a
broad understanding of Applied business principles. The AS and A2 years each
will consist of two portfolio units and one exam unit.

A National Award in Business is the equivalent to one Alevel and students can
achieve a pass, merit or distinction which will prepare them for a career in
almost any organisation. Throughout the course you will gain a broad
understanding of how businesses function and the activities in which they
engage. This will range from how businesses advertise and market products to
how they raise and manage their finances.
Course Content
The award will introduce students to a wide range of business fields such as
marketing, finance and business ownership and start-up. Over the two years
students will complete 6 units which will develop their business skills and
knowledge. Each unit will require students to complete a portfolio based on a
realistic business scenario. In each unit students will be required to complete
reports, presentations and take part in group projects. You will study a wide
range of business areas and specialisms. Some units are compulsory and some
are optional; some example units are listed below, these may alter slightly
throughout the course. There are no exams throughout the course.

This course is aimed at developing students independence and awarding them
for their personal achievements.
Course Content
The course is equivalent to an AS level qualification and is worth 70 UCAS
points. Over one year, students will complete modules that cover six key skills;

Research
Formal discussion
Oral Presentation.
The skills are covered through a series of projects which might involve working
in the local community with a primary school or residential care home or
learning a new skill like singing or dancing. Students also complete a global
awareness project learning about life in another country in comparison to the
UK.
After completing this course students will be equipped with the key skills
needed for the world of work or further education. They will be able to vocalize
their achievements at interview for a job or further education.

The course is ideal if you are looking for a course which enables you to learn in
childcare settings, such as nurseries, as well as in the classroom. This is a new
qualification which will give you up-to-date knowledge of the best ways in
which to promote childrens learning and development.
Course Content
The course is currently being developed by the examination board. There will
be a mixture of mandatory units and units chosen to link in with your areas of
interest. You will be assessed through examinations and coursework.
This course will lead directly into a level 3 Early Years Educator course (in
conjunction with GCSE Maths and English at Grade C), or into a variety of other
level 3 courses, such as Health and Social Care. You may wish to start an
apprenticeship at the end of the course.

The childrens care sector comprises of statutory, private and voluntary
provision of care services. The sector is one of the biggest employers in the
country. If you would like to get out into the world of work and spend a large
part of your week, being trained in Early Years settings, this is the course for
you.
Course Content
This qualification is currently being developed by the Government and
awarding bodies, for teaching from September, 2014. The new qualification
will provide the gold standard for those working in the sector. The course will
develop the knowledge and skills required to work effectively within the Early
Years Foundation Stage. You will be assessed through examinations and
coursework.
This course will equip you for degree- level study, in subjects such as primary
teaching, childrens nursing and social work. There is also a direct pathway into
supervisory-level work in the Early Years sector.

This course is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and
experience to succeed in a career in dance, through both practical training in
technique and choreography as well as through studying professional dance
artists and their works. You will be required to attend theatre trips.
Course Content

Students will be assessed though:
Unit 1- Both structured and essay style questions set on the dancer as a
performer, the process and craft of choreography and the significance of
dances. 40%
Unit 2 -They will be required to choreograph and perform a solo dance,
between two and three minutes duration and demonstrate their performance
skills within the context of a duo/trio. 60%

Students will be assessed through:
Unit 3- Questions in two sections, one on a chosen area of study and one other
on the set work studied. 25%
Unit 4- They will be required to choreograph a group dance, in which they do
not perform, and present a solo performance, which demonstrates
understanding of a performance style linked to a specific practitioner.

This is a vocational 2 year course offering students the opportunity to work
with professional dance practitioners who are currently working within the
industry. This course is aimed at students who wish to embark upon a career in
dance and performing arts and wish to apply to Dance Conservatoires or
Universities.
Places are granted through an audition.
Course Content
The Dance Academy combines full time academic study with preparing for a
professional career in the world of dance. It is constructed to give students
extensive training in different dance genres developing a more versatile
dancer.
Over the two years the unique programme will give students the opportunity
to develop
Creativity and choreographic skills both individually and in groups
through choreography and
Performance skills through a vast arrange of performance opportunities,
both locally and nationally.
Technique development in a vast range of styles from Contemporary to
ballet, jazz and street dance.
All classes are led by industry professionals who have trained at top dance
degree schools such as London Contemporary Dance School and The Laban
Centre, to West End performers, RAD and performers from television.
Students can continue their studies at degree level at University, previous
students have gone on to study dance at Roehampton, Chichester and Bath
Spa, and at vocational dance schools such as London Contemporary Dance and

who wish to embark upon a career in industry, apply to Drama School or study
Drama or the Performing Arts at Higher Education Level. Places are granted
through an audition process.
Course Content
The course will be run by professionals who are currently working within the
Performing Arts industry. In the past, tutors have included practitioners from
the Royal Shakespeare Company, Frantic Assembly and directors who have
links with the National Theatre. Through studying the course, students will be
awarded the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting).
Typical units will include: Unit 7 Performing to an Audience, Unit 19 Principles
of Acting, Unit 13 Contemporary Theatre Performance, Unit 17 Developing
Voice for the Actor, Unit 20 Applying Acting Styles and Unit 102 Site- Specific
Performance.
With a level 3 BTEC in Acting students will be equipped with the skills to apply
to Drama School or gain entry onto a Degree course studying the Performing
Arts, Musical Theatre or Drama. Equally students may be equipped with the
skills to enter into industry.

Choosing this course
This course is designed to provide pupils with the skills, knowledge and
experience to design and make textile/fashion products or garments. Students
are given the opportunity to conduct independent research, whilst
experimenting with media and techniques, culminating in a final outcome.
This course is ideal for students who want to pursue a career in textiles or
fashion or students who want to progress on to Art College to study for a
foundation course in Art & Design or alternatively fashion/textiles
Course Content
The course provides a broad based introduction to textile and fashion design.
You will learn about the design cycle and how to design and develop a
textile/fashion based product or garment from start to finish. You will be
expected to conduct independent research exploring a chosen concept or
theme. The basis of research will take the form of observational studies,
contextual research into artists and designers as well as experimentation with
various media's and techniques, culminating in a final piece. In addition to the
above, you will also be expected to produce a body of research that will go
towards an externally set assignment at the end of the year.
Students can continue their studies at degree level at University or an Art

Drama and Theatre Studies

A Level Drama and Theatre Studies is a practical theatre based syllabus which
is concerned with performance in action. You will be involved in a number of
pieces of performed work during the course ranging from exploration through
to full scale performances. You will study theoretical aspects of Drama
through practical exploration, individual research and written work. The aim
of the course is to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in terms of the
processes which shape effective performance and awareness of the diverse
social, cultural and historical contexts in which the arts operate. Drama
involves working in groups and your ability to contribute ideas, listen carefully
and give generously of your time is crucial. You will also need to go to the
theatre on several occasions during each year.

Exploration of Drama and Theatre exploration of contrasting plays = 20%.

The aim of the course is to promote an understanding of texts, drawing on a variety
of authors throughout the history of English Literature. It will improve reading,
writing and communication skills which will be valuable for any area that you decide
to pursue later on. It is an academic discipline and leads to a respected qualification
recognised by employers and universities. The course is particularly well matched to
be studied alongside other subjects such as Drama, Media Studies, Humanities and
Modern Foreign Languages.
Course Content
AS Outline World War One Literature
Unit 1: Texts in Context
This unit assesses the poetry set text plus candidates' wider reading in their chosen
area of study. Candidates answer two questions: one on the poetry text, the other
linking their wider reading to the focus of a given extract. Candidates answer two
questions. Question 1 invites candidates to link their wider reading to the focus of a
given passage. Question 2 assesses the set poetry text
Assessment: Written Exam: 2 hours
Weighting: 60% of total AS / 30% of total A Level marks
Unit 2: Creative Study
This unit assesses the set prose and drama texts. Candidates produce a coursework
folder containing two pieces of writing comprising 2,000 words in total wordprocessed. The first piece will be a personal informed response to the prose text and
may be a re-creative piece. The second piece will be on the drama text. Candidates
will be mentored by their teacher and guided through their choice of coursework
task, planning, drafting and writing the coursework.

This course is aimed at developing students skills in research, time
management, critical thinking and presentation. Students will produce an
independent research project designed to widen perspectives, broaden skills
and deepen understanding.
Course Content
Students choose to complete one of the following units: Dissertation,
Investigation/Field Study, Performance or Artefact. Over two terms students will
choose an area of study, plan and carry out their research, synthesise all their
research into an appropriate project and evaluate their work in the form of a
Q+A presentation. Students will work to a very high standard and the course is
good preparation for study at university. There is no examination, and the
qualification is worth up to 70 UCAS points.
Students will leave the course well prepared for study at university. They will
develop and use the skills that they will need to carry out independent research
and plan their time carefully. These skills are also very sought after in the
workplace, and success on this course will show that students can work
autonomously, creatively and to tight deadlines.

Film Studies is designed to enrich your existing appreciation and enjoyment of
film. It offers you the opportunity to engage with a wide range of different
films and gain confidence with a range of critical approaches to film, learning
to read a film, and to consider the nature of the relationship between an
audience and a film. You will choose some of the films you study with your
teacher. You will create your own short films as part of your coursework.
Course Content
AS Level Unit 1: 40% Coursework Exploring Film Form involves learning how
to read a film and producing your own short film in groups. Unit 2: 60%
Exam- British and American Film looks at the relationship between the film
industry and audiences, and at issues of genre and narrative.
A2 Level Unit 3: 50% Coursework Film Research and Creative Projects involves
producing a research project about a specific aspect of film or the film
industry, combined with creative work in the form of a short film which will
develop skills and understanding from AS. Unit 4: 50% Exam Varieties of Film
Experience looks at film styles and movements from different historical periods
and other cultures, as well as film experiences from outside the mainstream.
Many students continue their studies at degree level. There are clear
opportunities in academic and vocational areas. There are a wide variety of
careers in the film industry including film production, film journalism and
screenwriting or in areas such as Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Arts
Administration and Management.
Film Studies combines well with English, Humanities and Drama. It combines
very well with Media Studies as you will be using similar skills and theories in
both courses to study and create different media products.

This course will appeal to those students who have an interest in the
environment and who enjoy travel and finding out about people, places,
landscapes and events. Students who want a subject that looks at topical
issues and who enjoy fieldwork will find Geography very suitable.
Course Content
In the AS course, students study 2 main themes managing the physical environment (rivers; coasts; cold regions; hot regions)
- managing human environments (cities; countryside; growth of tourism; the
worlds energy).
In the A2 course, students study the themes of- globalisation (how the economic world is increasingly connected with other
countries)
- managing ecosystems and natural hazards (what are the challenges or
managing these issues?)
Field work is very important and fieldwork skills are tested in the examination.
In Year 12 there is a 5 day residential field trip to Norfolk in March, whilst in
Year 13 there is a long weekend fieldwork visit to South Wales. Students
studying Geography will develop a wide range of skills mathematical skills,
ICT, graphical and literacy skills.
There are a number of careers where geographical knowledge has a direct
relevance e.g. Conservation, Environmental Management, Leisure and
Tourism, Town Planning, Retail Marketing. However, virtually -all careers will
benefit from the wide range of skills that Geography students develop.

Health and Social Care

This Level 3 course enables you to develop a broad understanding of health
and social care sectors, principles and job roles. As well as classroom based
experience, you will attend regular work placements in local settings. You will
also benefit from visits to different practice environments and practitioners
will come into school to speak. Regular tutorials are held in order to monitor
and support your progress. Although broad in nature, the course is particularly
suitable if you are interested in developing a career within health or social care
services.
The National Health Service provides more jobs than any other organisation in
the United Kingdom and there is a national shortage in many social care
sectors.
Course Content
This course is modular, consisting of six units of study. In the first year, three
core units are studied: Unit 1 Developing Effective Communication in Health
and Social Care, Unit 2 Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
and Unit 3 Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care. In the
second year of the course, your student groups interests and career pathways
will be taken into account when the three optional units are selected.
Assessment is entirely through coursework.
Level 3 Health and Social Care is widely accepted for university entrance, is a
credible route into employment within the sectors (e.g. nursing, social work,
early years, radiography, ambulance service, primary teaching or youth work)
and leads directly into further Health and Social Care training, e.g. relevant
work-based pathways. Following this course does not tie you into the health
and social care sectors; it gives transferable skills which are relevant to a varied
range of careers.

The ICT course is concerned with applying ICT knowledge to solve a variety of
business style tasks. There are opportunities within the theory element to
understand and investigate how ICT is used in the world today. Candidates will
use a wide variety of software and hardware during this course.
Course Content
This course has two key areas data and information studied in AS where you
will cover using ICT for a range of purposes; social, cultural, legal, technical,
ethical, economic and environmental considerations on the use of ICT; ICT
systems (including hardware, software and communication); and then in A2
investigate and analyse select and use appropriate application software; test
and implement an effective ICT-related system; document specifications and
solutions; evaluate solutions and their own performance.
A career in ICT covers a huge range of possibilities, for example, careers in
Leisure and Tourism, Personnel, Advertising, Web Design, System Analysts,
Programmers and Scientific Research.

Level 3 Cambridge Technical Introductory

The Cambridge Technicals have been developed by both teachers and industry
specialists; therefore there is a considerable focus on skills that can be used
either in the work place or taken forward to undertake further study. The
course is made up of six units which are very much focused on practical ICT
skills and looking at using new technologies within the classroom. It is a new
and exciting course that will equip students with ICT skills that are new and
forward thinking.

Students will follow the EDEXCEL AS and A Level course. For the AS level 3
units will be taken in Year 12 and a further 3 units are taken in Year 13 to gain
the full A Level qualification. An essential part of mathematical study is the
challenge of analysing and solving a problem and students will need to be able
to communicate well in written work to explain their solutions.
Course Content
In Year 12 students will take the Core Maths 1, Core Maths 2 and the Statistics
1 module. The Core Maths units develop work covered at GCSE in
Trigonometry and Algebra as well as introducing new ideas such as Calculus.
When studying statistics students will learn how to analyse and summarise
numerical data as well as extend their knowledge of probability problems
looked at in GCSE. Each unit is assessed by 1 hour written exam. There is no
coursework element.
A level Mathematics is a much sought after qualification for entry to a wide
variety of full time courses in higher education. Mathematical skills learned at
AS and A Level, such as logical thinking, problem solving and statistical analysis

you plan to study Maths at degree level.
Course Content
The Further Maths AS course comprises 1 module of core maths; Further Pure
1, along with two applied modules; Decision Maths 1 and Mechanics 1.
Further Pure looks at Complex and Imaginary numbers, Matrix algebra and
Proof by Mathematical induction as well as extending current skills in
sequences and coordinate geometry. Mechanics is an excellent complement to
Physics A-level due to its content of kinematics, vectors and Newtons laws of
motion. Decision maths covers flow diagrams, decision making and logic
puzzles. Each unit is assessed by 1 hour written exam. There is no
coursework element.
The A2 part of the course will cover the second module in each of the above
subjects.

creation of a three-minute piece in response to a chosen brief. Students also

This unit focuses on listening to familiar music and understanding how it
works. Set works from the anthology provide the focus for the first two
sections, through listening and studying scores. In the third section, students
use a score to identify harmonic and tonal features and then apply this

BTEC Musical Theatre is a practical based syllabus which develops skills in musical theatre.
The course is vocational and provides training for those students who are interested in
musical theatre as a genre. You will study key musical theatre practitioners including

dance and acting workshops which will be used to both enhance and develop performance
work. You will work practically using the style of each practitioner in order to develop

production. The aim of the course is to develop knowledge, understanding and musical
theatre skills. BTEC Musical Theatre involves working in groups and your ability to contribute
ideas, listen carefully and give generously of your time is crucial. You will also need to go to
the theatre on several occasions during each year.

Throughout the course you will study musical theatre as a genre. You will have the

You will study theoretical aspects of photography through practical

Sociology is useful in a variety of careers as it centres upon people; it is useful
where you will be working with others. Careers which welcome Sociology are
Business, Teaching, Care Industries, Leisure, Law and Politics. Sociology is also
recognised by all universities for a wide variety of studies including degrees in
Law, History, Business and Psychology.

The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma in Sport is a qualification which can
extend a learners programme of study and provide vocational emphasis for learners. This
course is especially suitable for those students who have prior knowledge of physical
education course, including GCSE PE and other vocational course. Students will be expected
to work with enthusiasm and effort throughout the two year course. It is also important that
the students realise that this course requires independent research and learning for many of
the assignments. The assignments will be linked very closely to the theoretical knowledge
gained in lessons both classroom based and practically. The subsidiary diploma is equivalent
to one A Level A-C and the diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels A-C.
Course Content
There are SEVEN units (subsidiary diploma) and SEVEN compulsory and SIX additional units
(diploma) which are covered and within these units there are assignments to be completed.
Assignments will then be marked using a mark criteria and a Pass, Merit or Distinction will
be awarded for that particular assignment. Then at the end of the course all the grades will
be added up and an overall mark will be awarded.

The football academy is a 2 year full time education and football development
programme delivered in partnership with semi-professional football club Corinthian
Casuals F.C. Open to talented footballers aged between 16-18 years, the academy
programme is a must for any football enthusiast. A playing trial will be required as
places will be offered based on playing ability.
Course Content
We pride ourselves on excellence both on and off the pitch and we endeavour to
provide a holistic education to enable learners to progress in life. Players will have
access to exceptional facilities and a unique learning environment to allow any player
with the correct attitude to flourish. All academy players will receive daily training
involving individual and team coaching from U.E.F.A. A Licence qualified coaches.
Players will receive guidance on individual fitness, nutritional advice and a regular
appraisal to monitor each players development both on and off the pitch.
The programme will encourage skill development and decision making in game like
practices such as technique and skill practices, small sided games, functional
practices, phase of plays and eleven a side practices.
Over the two years the unique programme will give students the opportunity to
develop the requirements of the future game which will include Attacking when opponents are in balance.
Attacking when opponents are out of balance.
Defensive play whilst in balance.
Defensive play whilst out of balance.
The finishing phase.
Goalkeeping.
To understand the advantages of the Attacking and Defending principles of
play and when to implement them.
Students who achieve the Level 1 FA Coaching award as part of the programme can
go forward with their coaching development and progress to a career in football
coaching. There is also a progression route in the Corinthian Casuals FC reserve team
if the player meets the requirements. Combining the Football Academy with the
BTEC Sport qualification can also lead to a career in the sporting industry.
