General Considerations:

The cyclone shelter is a three storied building.

The ground floor is kept open for uninterrupted flow of surge (if any) water during cyclone.
During cyclone each building can accommodate 500 persons in two floors (1st & 2nd)
A dedicated women corner including pregnant women room is provided at first floor.
A first aid room is also provided at first floor.
The ground floor (plinth level) is raised from the original ground in accordance with the Climate
Change adaptation measures to make the structure climate resilient.
Madrasha/School compound (open area/field) is also raised from existing ground level to avoid
the water logging and ensure easy access to the cyclone shelter.
Overhead water storage reservoir provisions have been made for rain water harvesting from roof.
The cyclone shelter will be of multipurpose use.
The building will be used for educational purpose round the year.
Ground floor may be used for public gatherings, functions and cattle protection during times of
excessive storm events.
The first and second floor will be used as classroom, teachers room, store etc. round the year.

Type of Shelter:
Generally two options of shelter are used Option-1 and Option-5. Option-1 comes with I shape
(Straight) while Option-5 is of L shape. Modified option-1 is also used where there is land constraint and
found suitable. All the shelters are RCC frame structure.
