TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS MIRACLES

Chronological Bible Reading: Zephaniah; Revelation 15
Tuesday, December 23

1 Cor. 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God
chosen,

John 2:1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother
of Jesus was there:

Deut. 32:36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his
servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

Great God and Glorious Savior:

I walk the streets at night; I see sinners then. When the night is dark and the
bars let out, I see sinners then. People I would not want to meet in an alley, I see
sinners then. Sure, in the jails, but also in the psychiatric wards and juvenile
detention centers; I see sinners there.
I dont have to ransack the earth to find sinners. Mostly I can just look
around myself, at work or school or in the home. Base people doing despicable
things, in just about every cubicle. They are the ones for whom Jesus died!
Choose the grossest specimen among them and I can have hope about him
yet, because Jesus Christ is seeking to save sinners. Your love selects some of the
worst to be made the best, and gravel from the ground turns into diamonds for
the crown! The worthless metal, lead, is made by spiritual alchemy into gold.
Your redeeming love set apart some of the worst of the human race to be
the reward of Christs passion. Actually, the reward for the travail of your soul
might be sitting next to me today. By your grace, call them to Jesus! Make the
vilest come and sit at the table of mercy with me, because no one has to despair.
Love looked through your tears. Love streamed down with your blood.
That faithful love, that strong love, that pure, distinct and abiding love really and
truly exists. Let me warn people not to turn away from it, as though it were
nothing or did not exist, but to believe on you and be saved! Help __________
and __________ to trust their soul to you now. Bring them Jesus, to your
Fathers house in glory. This is a thing I know I can trust you to use me to bring
about, because you chose the base and despised when you saved me. Glory!

Lord God and Father:

Two times I am told you performed your first miracle in Canain Galilee
of all places! You did not choose a wedding in high society at Jerusalem, or any of
the really noble cities in Israel. You went to a quiet village on the outskirts, in
Galilee of the Gentiles, a neighborhood much despised.
You did not begin your miracle-working ministry in front of the king, or
the governor, or even the high priest. And now Jesus, you have come to me, and
exchanged wine for my water. You not only give me your presence, but your
presence heightened by happiness. You have gone beyond my necessity to give
me enjoyment. I have so much, yet I thank you for so little of it.
Isa. 25:6 And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a
feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees
well refined.
You give me grace to dine with, grace to rejoice with, grace to fill me with
security, and cause me to overflow in grace. You do not measure grace by the
drop, like the pharmacist does. You give liberally, filled to the brim!
And you do not need nagging to do it. If I feel like I have to pray up to a
certain quantity, I am mistaken. You are more ready to meet my needs than I am
to plead for them. To get this supply, nothing is required except what is easy and
natural. I have to fetch water from your word. Give me enough energy to draw
from the well of the Bible and fill my reservoir of faith!
Lord, by your Spirit, you can come in and change my heart. Turn this
earthen vessel into a keg of blessing today! Do it to Jesus glory. Amen.

Almighty Lord and Gracious Heavenly Father:

My extremity is your opportunity. So what I want to do now is lay to heart
the lukewarm and weak condition of my church, and cry to you to raise it up.
Help me find every possible and right means to bring about revival. When
my way is blocked, and it seems like there is no opportunity for success, then I
will fall back on the promise of this verse, and plead it with you in prayer.
I believe if I pray in faith, God will return to the church. I believe just six
people who are on praying ground can pray our church out of any ditch into
which we could fallor bring us out even from the sepulcher where our enemies
bury usand make us live again before you. But there must be an intense
determination of faith. I have to have real anguish of heart, and travail in my own
soul until revival comes, because this is why revival tarries.
The fact that we come to the end of the rope at the end of the year cheers
me. Because rather than driving me to despair it drives me to pray, and to lock
wrists with others in prayer today. When I am so low, at least there is consolation
in the fact I cannot get any lower. Now is the time to hope! Now is the time to
have faith the tide will turn. Now God will raise us up!
You brought us, in the order of providence, to such a state that our power is
gone. We are unable to bring revival to ourselves. All earthly plans fail us. There is
none shut up, or leftno garrison in the city, no soldier in the field, no help on the
horizon, no reserve. But I beseech you Godnow that all human avenues are
exhaustedfly to us! I do not give up my hope. I trust in your compassion. By
faith I grasp your promise. May others perceive it with me today. Amen.

Matt. 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the
princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

ANGELS from the realms of glory, wing your flight oer all the earth;
Ye who sang creations story now proclaim Messiahs birth.
Shepherds, in the field abiding, watching oer your flocks by night,
God with us is now residing; yonder shines the infant light:
Sages, leave your contemplations, brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations; ye have seen His natal star.
Saints, before the altar bending, watching long in hope and fear;
Suddenly the Lord, descending, in His temple shall appear.
Sinners, wrung with true repentance, doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence, mercy calls you; break your chains.
Though an Infant now we view Him, He shall fill His Fathers throne,
Gather all the nations to Him; Every knee shall then bow down:
All creation, join in praising God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising to theternal Three in One.
Come and worship, come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Rom. 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law,
but under grace.

name.

Psa. 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy

O Lord and Righteous Conqueror:

Our inmost heart worships you, because you are high above the heavens,
and yet you humbled yourself to die for our sins. Who is a God like you? Our
praise should start on Sunday but never stop during the entire week!
Save us completely from sin, like youve promised. We have peace with
God by justification through faith. We know we are righteous through the
imputed righteousness of Christ, but we need his imparted righteousness as
well! We pant for more and more of his personal likeness in our lives.
If you are our Father, then we ought to bear the family resemblance. Make
it so through the work of your Spirit, even in the events of today. We beg you
Lord, enable us to experience death to sin. When the charmer comes tempting,
give us deafness to his voice. Make us incapacitated for unrighteousness.
Lord, deliver us from the invasion of sin, as well as the dominion of sin.
Grant today we can walk like Christ and live in his newness of life. May the life of
our flesh be a life of faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for
us. Make it a life of love, consecration, and burning zeal for you. Make it a life of
perfecting holiness within sight of the sons of men.
We lament how within our body of this death there is so much to abhor. We
are always tempted to laziness, especially in our relationship with you. Through
busy-ness in the world, we become spiritually idle. We are tempted to envy those
who excel us, and we mourn to confess the apathy of our spirit. We also grieve
over our pride. Give us more of Jesus, because we will never be like him without
him. Make us alive by his life and godly through his holiness. Amen.

Oh, Great Father:

Teach me to start the music of heaven down here. Grant me grace to have
many rehearsals as I move forward in your eternal purpose with others. I dont
want to bring you blessing just because you feed me, and because I receive so
many wonderful mercies at your hand. No, but I want to learn to praise you even
when I am under the rod, and even when my heart is heavy. Help me rejoice in
you even when the flocks are diminished and brought low.
Lord teach me, even the rest of this year, the real art of praise. Set my soul
on fire, and like a censor full of frankincense, may my whole nature send out a
delightful perfume, a thankful gratitude, a praiseworthy attitude to the everblessed Father, Son, and Holy One.
Lord, my main desire in starting the New Year is to be right with you. Roll
away every sin. Make me feel the burden of it, so I will come to you and confess
it, and do all the preparatory work necessary to be fit for your use in your
mission. Grant me the kiss of forgiveness to close this winter. Help me praise, for
you are faithful and just to forgive us our sin, if I have but claimed Jesus as my
substitute and rest in him. In the joy of this, give me peace with you.
Maybe I got saved years ago. If there is anything between my soul and the
Savior, if there is any wrong thing encouraged, any evil desire cherished, anything
I delight in that you take no delight in, any habit that grieves you, or if in anything
I vex the Holy Spirit, Father help me! Point out the trespass and teach my feet to
walk in your ways. I want my heart right with your word because I desire
holiness, holiness unto the Lord Jesus. Amen.

PRAYER DIARY

TIMEWORSHIP
Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and
departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is
to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily
devotions.
2)

TITHEWORK
1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as
God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions

asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come
off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the
firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our
resources.
3)

TEAMWORD
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship
with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

QUALITY CHRISTIANITY INVOLVES THREE THINGS

Keeping Christ at the center (your core relationship of worship to God)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to
God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you
through the Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.
Alan

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the
time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
