CHARGING OF A BETTERY
II
In a three phase rectifier bridge (P3), the voltage per phase is 480V-60Hz. The
load is a pure resistance of 15. Neglecting the voltage drops in the windings of
the transformer and in the diodes, calculate:
Power Electronics_Seq2_GTHS Kumbo
a) The mean voltage across the load and the effective voltage across the
load.
b) The mean and the maximum currents in each diode.
c) The effective current in each diode.
d) The maximum reverse voltage across a diode.
e) The rated power of the secondary of the transformer (in KVA).

A three phase Graetz bride is supplying two phases of the stator of a three phase
induction motor, whose windings are connected in star. The bridge is connected
at the secondary of a three phase transformer having the following
characteristics: 380/220-50Hz. The voltage at the phase 1 of the secondary of
the transformer is v1 127 2 sin t .
1. Give the role of this circuit for the motor and indicate the coupling of the
secondary of the transformer. Justify your answer.
2. Draw the diagram of the circuit described above.
3. Draw in synchronism, the voltages v1(), v2(), v3(), uR().
4. Determine the average load voltage.
5. The motor windings are assumed to be pure resistors. The average load
current is 70A. Determine the resistance between the two phases of the motor,
and deduce the resistance of one winding of the motor.
6. Determine the active power sent to the load.
7. Determine the maximal reverse voltage across the diode assuming a security
margin of 60%
8. Give the effective and the average current in each diode assuming that the
effective load current id 70A.
