Curriculum: TEC (Technology-based Entrepreneurship Course)

The course is basically composed of four classes
(TEC-I IV). Each class is regular subject with
credit that can be taken by all graduate students
in OPU.
The most important part of the curriculum has
been developed and practically operated by the
competent persons in industries, not only by
university faculties.

TEC-I (Business Planning)

virtual business planning workshop
The class is carried out in the style of oneon-one coaching session by coordinators.
The student must give a business planning
presentation at the end of class.

TEC-II (Lectures for Entrepreneurs)

At first, the students learn the present circumstance of
Japanese industries in the world. Then they come to know
the changing expectation for the young researchers having
entrepreneur spirits with PhD degrees.
The class essentially includes the lectures of,
basics of management of technology (MOT),
theoretical concept of leadership + group work for practical leadership in company,
basic ideas how to make excellent technical presentation,
innovation practically happened at industry,
practical examples of various carrier paths
knowledge how to design their own carrier
Currently over 400 students take this course in a year!

TEC-III (Research in Industries)

Long term Internship (minimum 3 months @ Industry)
The students can pursue internship with a wide rage of companies for three-month
period at least. They study how the research is carried out in industry, the way of
strategy planning, and real aspect of industrial research and development.
Almost one hundred Pos-Docs and PhD student
experienced internship in last 6 years at more than
70 companies including foreign companies.
70-80% Pos-Docs and PhD students find a job in
industrial companies.
TEC-IV (PBL Leadership training)
Group research in industries in three to five month period.
Group leader must be a PhD student. He/she has to organize the research
(not only a technical goal, but also human resource, budget, time scheduling etc.)
The students engage this PBL (Project-based Learning) style workshop in order to
know the transformational leadership style in 21st century. The former prominent
global leaders in industries support the students as coordinators. They are expected
to know the following competencies.
marketing
research proposal
accountability of their research
Logical thinking
Ideation and design Transformative leadership
