1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
This Operational Instruction describes the procedure to install software for a Base
Station Controller (BSC) Network Interface-Ethernet (NWI-E) switch.
When performing this procedure, it is mandatory to apply it on both the A-side and the
B-side BSC NWI-E.
See Section 3 for more information regarding BSC with Adjunct Processor Group (APG).

3.2 BSC NWI-E Logon

Connection to the BSC NWI-E may be established in following two different ways:

Connect a PC, with terminal emulation software installed, through serial

communication to the BSC NWI-E serial management port. This alternative must
be used when installing on a new BSC NWI-E.
Connect from a workstation on the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) network,
using either Telnet or SSH.

For account name, and password to BSC NWI-E, see the work order.
For information on what alternative to use to connect to the BSC NWI-E, see the work
order.

3.3 Download ExtremeXOS

Use one of the following commands to download ExtremeXOS to the primary or
secondary image space of the BSC NWI-E using SSH:
scp2 <user>@<ipaddress>:<remote_file> image primary
or
scp2 <user>@<ipaddress>:<remote_file> image secondary
Use one of the following commands to download ExtremeXOS to the primary or
secondary image space of the BSC NWI-E using TFTP:
download image <ipaddress> <remote_file> vr VR-Default primary
or
download image <ipaddress> <remote_file> vr VR-Default secondary.
Answer y to the question
Do you want to install image after downloading?
(y - yes, n - no, <cr> - cancel)
Note:
The new version of XOS will become active after the next reboot.

3.4 Download SSH module

Use one of the following commands to download the SSH module to the primary or
secondary image space of the BSC NWI-E using SSH:
scp2 <user>@<ipaddress>:<remote_file> image primary
or
scp2 <user>@<ipaddress>:<remote_file> image secondary.
Use one of the following commands to download the SSH module to the primary or
secondary image space of the BSC NWI-E using TFTP:
download image <ipaddress> <remote_file> vr VR-Default primary
or
download image <ipaddress> <remote_file> vr VR-Default secondary.

Answer y to the question

Do you want to install image after downloading?
(y - yes, n - no, <cr> - cancel)

3.5 Special Considerations for APG4x

It is recommended to start the upgrade with the BSC NWI-E that connects the inactive
half of APG4x.
This can be determined by using the command show iparp BSC_Inner. In the following
Table 2, the columns Age, Static, VLAN and [VID] has been omitted for clarity.

The APG4x cluster address is always on the active APG side. In this example it is
150.132.100.53, and it is reached through port 3. As port 3 is the Intercon port
grouping, this means that the cluster address is connected to the other BSC NWI-E. This
means that the inactive half is connected to the BSC NWI-E that produced the printout.
Another way to determine this is to look at the MAC column. The active side is indicated
by the same value occurring for two IP addresses.
