SiemensandNTNUarecooperatinginalargeresearchprogrammeonnewtoolsand
methodsforcontrolandoptimisationofoffshoreproductionsystems,includingsubseaflow
linesandrisers,platformprocesssystemsandpowersupplysystems.Thefieldofresearch
coversseveraltechnicaldisciplines,andthePhDsandpostdocswillworkinmultidisciplinary
teams.PartsoftheworkwillbecarriedoutatSiemenspremises,andwillbecloselyrelated
toindustrialapplications.Theengagementperiodis4years(include25%dutiesinthe
project)forPhDscholarshipsand3yearsforpostdoctoratefellowships.
ThefollowingpositionsareavailableeitherforPhDscholarshipsorpostdoctorate
fellowships:

1.FlowAssurance,simulationmethodsformultiphaseflow

Investigationofmethodsforsimulationofmultiphaseflowsystemsforoilandgasmixtures,
whichcanbesuitableforcontrolpurposes.Computationalmethodsfortransientmultiphase
pipeflows,onlinetuningmethodsformultiphasemodelsandlaboratorytestingofmodels.
Qualifications:Suitablebackgroundcanbewithinthefieldsofmechanicalengineering,fluid
mechanics,physicsorcomputationalmathematics.

2.Controlsolutionsforflowassurance

Investigationofimprovedoperatingstrategiesbasedondynamicmodellingandcontrolfor
multiphasesystemsexhibitingflowassuranceproblems.Modeldevelopmentand
experimentaltestingofcontrolmethods.

3.Surgecontrolandloadsharingforcompressors

Theoreticalcontrollerdesignforhighefficiencysurgeavoidanceandloadsharingfor
multiplecompressors.Experimentaltestingofcontrollerincompressorlab.
Qualifications:Theapplicantsmusthaveamastersdegreeinoneoftheareasofelectrical
engineering,mechanicalengineering,controlsystems,orappliedmathematics,andastrong
backgroundinsystems,linearandnonlinearcontroltheoryandmathematics.

4.Controllerperformancemonitoring

Thepostdocwillstudybothindividualloopandplantwidemonitoringmethods.Aparticular
focuswillbeontheinteractionsbetweenthemonitoringmethodsanddatastorage
systems.
Qualifications:TheidealcandidatewillhaveastrongPhDincontrolperformance
monitoring,andabackgroundineitherControlorChemicalEngineering.Candidateswith
alternativebackgroundsmayalsobeconsidered,suchassystemidentification,fault
detection,patternrecognition,etc.

5.Advancedcontrolofpowerconverters

Mathematicalmodellinganddesignofcontrolsystemsforpowerelectronicconverters
connectedinoffshorepowergrid.Differentconvertertopologies,optimalmodulationand
controlalgorithmswillbeinvestigated.Laboratoryequipmentforexperimentalverification
mustbedevelopedaspartoftheresearchproject.
Qualifications:Thecandidatemusthavequalificationinelectricalpowersystems,power
electronics,digitalsignalprocessingandcontroltheory.

6.Powerandenergymanagementinoffshorepowersystems

Developmentofmathematicalmodelsfordynamicperformanceverification.Modellingand
identificationofcriticalfailuresandoperationalmodes.Designandevaluationoffault
tolerantcontrolstrategiesforpowerandenergymanagementinconnectionwith
criticalmachineryfaults.
Qualifications:MScinmechanical,electricalormarineengineeringorsimilar.

PhDcandidatesareremuneratedincode1017intheStatesalaryscale4551,grossNOK
353000toNOK391500perannum(beforetax),dependingonqualifications.
Postdocfellowsareremuneratedincode1352,intheStatesalaryscale5776,grossNOK
435500toNOK625900perannum(beforetax),dependingonqualifications.PhD
candidatesarenormallyremuneratedatwagelevel45,whereaspostdocfellowsare
normallyremuneratedatwagelevel57.Therewillbea2%deductiontoTheNorwegian
PublicServicePensionFundfromgrosssalary.

Otherinformation
TheappointmentofthePhDscholarsorpostdocfellowswillbemadeaccordingto
Norwegianguidelinesforuniversitiesanduniversitycolleges.ApplicantsforaPhDposition
areobligedtoengageonanorganizedresearchprogramme,andappointmentrequires
approvaloftheapplicantsplanforPhDstudy.
