Artificial Insemination is a new technique or method that has been used in medical science these days or
in other words, it is a pregnancy without sexual intercourse.
We all know that people have been created from combination of sperm and ovum but some couples are
infertile and it has been unsolved for many years.
So with the advancement in science and technology today, science discovered artificial insemination as a
new process to treat infertility of husband or wife.

SLIDE 2
So what is artificial insemination> As I mentioned earlier, it is a method of inducing pregnancy in a
female mammal by injecting sperm into the womb.
And it is only lawful if the sperm is taken from the legal husband and still in marital life.
It is prohibited and haram if not taken from legal husband or a third party. And also after divorce or the
husband death.

SLIDE 3
The example of the artificial inseminations situation is when A husband and a wife have been trying to
have children, but a doctor recently told them that they cannot. The doctor told them that there is a
procedure that would allow them to have children; however, it requires that the doctor extracts the egg
of the lady and the sperm of the man, and puts them together in a lab. Then the doctor would implant
the fertilized egg in to the woman. And this is how the procedure is to be done (video)

We will proceed with the problems. Okay so there are 2 factors and problems of married couples
incapable of conceiving a child , which are male and female infertility.
There are some of the reasons why infertility occurs.
For the male, it is because of - inability to produce sperm (azoospermia)
-production of too few sperms
-production of sperm but not being sufficiently motile to make their way
past the vaginal canal and through fallopian tubes. In other words (low
sperms count in mens)
And for the female, because of
-

vaginal environment is biochemically inhospitable to sperm

an usually cervical opening that prevents further progression of sperm
abnormal uterine position

As for the advantages,

-

male partner can overcome the childlessness.

sperm has a better chance of surviving
sperm can be delivered to a better position for fertilization

SLIDE 6
In the quran ayah 14 verses 46 states that, Wealth and progeny are the allurements of this
world It means thatinfertility also is one of theproblem in life that sometimes can be happened to
married couples, and also can be overcome through treatment.
And Prophet SAW also said that God has created disease and cure, and He made for each disease a
cure. So seek cure and dont seek cure prohibited actions Therefore couples can try to overcome try
their childlessness through treatment if it does not violate the principle the principle of shariah.
In other words so that the couples have to try and never give up through treatment as long it doesnt
against the shariaah.

SLIDE 7
There are two forms which are Permissible forms and Impermissible forms
It is permissible because as it is according to the restrictions set forth by Islam that include

Taking the sperm specimen from the husband and injecting it into the uterus of his wife by way
of internal fertilization

- Taking two samples; one from the semen of the husband and the other from the ovum of the
wife. They are fertilized externally in a test tube. Then, the embryo is implemented in the uterus
of the wife, the owner of the ovum. (like the video I showed in the previous slide)
In coclusion it is permissible if only both sides are husband and wife.

For impermissible form, it is prohibited as it is Contradicting the principles of the Islamic Sharee'ah
Some of the examples are by

- Inserting the semen of a certain male, who is known to the doctor but unknown to the married
couple, into the uterus of a woman.

- External fertilization in a test tube between the sperm of a man and an ovum of a woman who
is not his wife and this man and woman are referred to as donors. Then the embryo is
implemented in the womb of another married woman who desires to give birth. (AID) I will
explain what is AID in the next slide

- Collecting the semen of many men and donating them to the sperm bank. Then, it is used to
fertilize the woman who requests fertilization. Also,(AID)

SLIDE 8
AID IS Artificial Insemination by Donor, which include in IMPERMISSIBLE FORM as it acquire the third
party, and not the husband. Donor-could be anyone, from the sperm bank
AID Is use by the western society, the non muslim for example single women who wish to remain
unmarried but have a child, they use this method to become pregnant
In islam, it is abviously forbidden because it is by a donor and not by the woman's husband

SLIDE 9

Since it does not involve any sexual relations between the donor and the woman, therefore, cannot be
categorized as fornication or adultery
So how it can be haram if theres no sexual intercourse between the donor and women?
Because the Quran clearly says

"Say to the believing women that they...should guard their private parts." (24:30)

The divine command to guard the private parts is unqualified; it does not say that guard only
from illicit sexual intercourse; it says that guard from everything except from your spouse.
Although theres no sexual relations, but the sperm is from other person than husband, so it it
consider as haram.
And also in the quranic ayat 23 verses 5 states that

"Those who protect their private parts except from their spouses.... Therefore, whosoever
seeks more beyond that, then they are the transgressors." (23:5)

Therefore, even injecting the sperm of another man would constitute a transgression and a
violation of the command of Allah.
