Troy, Junior, Midfield

Stats:
One half of
the Flying
Horses dynamic midfield duo,
Lockrow
recorded
nine goals
on the season as well as
five assists, filling her stat
line in a turn-around season for Troy High this fall.
Honors: Named to the allacademic team.
Off the field: In addition
to taking an all-honors
class schedule this fall,
Lockrow is currently on
the Troy High high honor
roll for academic achievement.
Up next: Lockrow will
take her athleticism to the
next sports-related test
as she competes with the
Troy track and field team
this spring.

Claudia Fountain

Waterford, 8th grade,

Striker
Stats:
Despite her
age, Fountain led the
Fordians
offense
with a
team-high
30 goals as well as five
assists this fall.
Off the field: A volunteer at the Waterford
Wesleyan Church and the
local recreational soccer
league, Fountain is also
a member of Waterfords
Junior National Honor
Society.
Up next: A speedster on
the field, Fountain is also
a dominant track athlete,
holding school records
in the 100m hurdles and
high jump as well as a
third place finish in last
years Section II hurdles
championship.

Danielle Stannard

Hoosic Valley, Junior,

Defender
Stats: A
converted
striker, the
multi-year
Indians
starter
settled
into her
new position this season
and excelled, using her
offensive knowledge to
help advance the ball out
of her zone and, most importantly, out of the back
of the net.
Honors: Named a firstteam Wasaren League
all-star.
Off the field: Currently
serves as the secretary
of the Hoosic Valley junior
class.
Up next: Will return to
the field next season as
she loks to wrap up her
athletic career on a highnote.

Danika Svendsen

Ellery Bianco

Hailee Metzold

Stillwater, Sophomore,
Goalie
Stats:
Facing the
tough task
of Wasaren
Leauge
competition is
never easy,
but Svendsen was a consistent competitor in net,
recording 207 saves on the
season, far and away the
best in league and third
best in all of Section II.
She gave up just 21 goals,
finishing the year with a
91% save percentage.
Honors: Second-team
Wasaren League all-star.
Off the field: Participates
in student governemnt at
Stillwater High School.
Up next: Wont spend
much time away from the
field in the off-season.
She plays for the Guilderland United club team.

Saratoga, Senior, Striker

Stats: One
of the most
athletic
players in
Section II,
the Blue
Streaks cocaptain led
her team in
scoring this fall, recording
17 goals and eight assists.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Council
all-star and third-team
Class AA all-state player
Off the field: Short distance specialist, posted
first-place finishes in 55
meter dash, the 300 meter dash and the 55 meter
hurdles in last years Suburban Council indoor track
and field championships.
Up next: Will take her
speed to collegiate level
next season, competing on the track and field
team at Cornell University.

Schalmont, Senior, Midfield

Stats: A
four-year
varsity starter,
Metzold
wrapped up
her career
with the
Sabres by notching seven
goals and 11 assists.
Honors: Named a firstteam Colonial Council
all-star and an exceptional
senior all-star.
Off the field: In addition to storng play on the
soccer field, competing in
the offseason with the FC
Dutchmen, Metzold is also
a top basketball player
as well as a member of
Schalmonts Science
Honor Society.
Up next: Hopes to play
either basketball or soccer
at Union College next year.

Stats: In
her third
season as
the Blue
Devils
starting
goalie, the
co-captain
posted a
fall for the record books;
leading Section II with
264 saves. In addition she
gave up just 13 total goals
and posted eight shutouts
between the posts.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Council
all-star and fifth-team
Class AA all-state player.
Off the field: An honor
roll student and co-editor
of the student newspaper
at Columbia, Schafter is
currently in the process
of writing her own young
adult novel.
Up next: Hopes to study
communications at AIC or
LeMoyne next fall.

Hoosick Falls, Junior,

Forward
Stats: One
of most experienced
players on
the Hoosick
Falls roster, Haynes
notched
her name in Panthers
records books, recording
her 100th career goal and
finishing with 23 goals
and nine assists.
Honors: First-team
Wasaren League all-star
and a fourth-team Class B
all-state player.
Off the field: Not one to
stop playing for too long,
Haynes competes with
the Albany AlleyCats club
team in the offseason.
Up next: Varisty starter
since seventh grade,
Haynes will wrap up her
soccer career with the
Panthers, looking to further cement her name in
Hoosick Falls lore.

Columbia, Senior, Forward

Stats:
Thanks
in large
part to her
talented
footwork,
the multiyear starter
recorded 17
goals and five assists for
the Blue Devils, making
her one of the most offensively potent players in
the Suburban Council.
Honors: Named the Suburban Council Co-Player
of the Year.
Off the field: Participated
in the first-ever Integrated Basketball Team at
Columbia High School last
winter.
Up next: After wrapping
up her senior year with
the Devils, Arno plans to
attend Campbell University where she will also
play soccer and study
Pre-Law.

Shenendehowa, Senior,
Defender
Stats: In
addition to
helping to
keep the
ball out of
her own
net, the
Plainsmens co-captain did a
little of the opposite to
opposing teams, recording
four goals and two assists
this season.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Coucnil
all-star.
Off the field: Cites AP Bilogy as her favorite class.
Up next: Hopes to pursue
a pre-Med major in college
next year.

Rachel Pine

Sarah Murray

Hoosick Falls, Senior,

Midfield
Stats:
Paced
the team,
as the
Panthers
once again
excelled
in the
Wasaren League, with 24
goals and 20 assists in her
final season on the field.
At one point this season,
Pine scored seven of Hoosick Falls 15 goals over
the course of a four-game
stretch.
Honors: Named Wasaren
League Player of the Year
and a third-team Class B
all-state player.
Off the field: Continuing
to live up to her familys
athletic reputation, Pine
is currently a guard for the
Panthers girls basketball
team.

Voorheesville, Senior,
Defender
Stats: In
her fourth
and final
year on
varsity, the
Blackbirds
standout
was a
shutdown presence in
front of goal for Voorheesville, helping lead
her team to an apperance
in the Section II Class B
championship game.
Honors: Named a firstteam Colonial Council
all-star.
Off the field: Also plays
for Guilderland United,
competing with the travel
team throughout the
offseason.
Up next: Has yet to make
an official decision on her
college plans for next fall.

Shenendehowa, Senior,
Forward
Stats:
One of the
quickets
players in
the league,
Benson
was a near
constant
scoring threat and, by the
end of the season, had
recorded 11 gals and five
assists, one of only two
players on the team to
notch double-digit goals.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Council
all-star and fifth-team
Class AA all-state player.
Off the field: A wellrounded athlete, Benson
also competes with the
Plainsmen on the cross
country skiing team and
track and field.
Up next: Plans to attend
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
next fall, looking to study
pharmacy.

Catholic Central, Junior,

Midfield
Stats:
One of the
best ballhandlers
for the
Crusaders, Drake
finished
the season with 21 goals
and 11 assists, including a
goal in Catholic Centrals
Section II Class B championship victory.
Off the field: Competes
throughout the season
and plays club soccer with
the Albany AlleyCats.
Up next: Drake will join
Record Player of the Year
Lexi Riffelbach on the
Crusaders for one final
season next year as CCHS
looks to defend its championship crown.

Theresa Stinson

Troy, Junior, Midfield

Stats: A
powerful
presence in
the middle
of the field,
Stinson
was also
able to
put the
ball in the back of the
net, notching 10 goals,
including one in the Section II Class A quarterfinal
against Queensbury, on
the season as well as four
assists.
Off the field: Competes
on the local soccer
club-circut in Brunswick
throguhout the offseason.
Up next: Stinson is also
part of the Troy High
track and field team in the
spring and will once again
compete with the Flying
Horses this season.

Bethlehem, Senior, Forward

Stats: In
her final
season on
the field,
Rickert
paced a
somwhat
suprrising Bethlehem team that
went all the way to the
NYS Class AA semi-finals,
finishign the season with
six goals and six assists.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Council
all-star and fifth-team
Class AA all-state player.
Off the field: Has already
notched double-digit
points with the Bethlehem girls basketball team
as the Eagles look to once
again make a run at a
Section II title this winter.
Up next: Will wrap up her
athletic career with the
Eagles lacrosse team this
spring.

Catholic Central, Senior,

Forward
Stats:
One of the
quickest
players
in all of
Section
II, Purcell
once again
brought used her speed to
break open the Catholic
Central offensive front,
recording 25 goals and an
area-best 31 assists
Honors: Named a firstteam Class B all-state
player.
Off the field: Purcell is
currently the sparkplug of
another strong Catholic
Central offensive unit,
leading the Crusaders
basketball team this
winter.
Up next: After she wraps
up her CCHS athletic
career, Purcell heads to
LeMoyne, joining the Dolphins basketball team.

Veda Hensel

Voorheesville, Sophomore,
Forward
Stats: Despite being
one of the
younger
players on
the Blackbirds roster, Hensel
recorded 23 goals this
seaosn, a number that led
the Colonial Council, in
addition to a team-high 15
assists.
Honors: Named a firstteam Colonial Council allstar and a second-team
Class B all-state player.
Off the field: Competes
with Capital United, one
of the areas top travel
teams.
Up next: Hensel will
return to the Blackbirds
roster next season, looking to make a return trip
to the Section II finals.

Lansingburgh, Senior,
Defender
Stats:
Despite
not posting
any visible stats,
defensive
presence
helped
Lady Knights give up 38
goals this season, marking a 82.5% percentage
against a challenging
Colonial Council schedule.
Honors: First-team Colonial Council all-star, part
of the Colonial Council
Exceptional Seniors Team
for the Senior Showcase
All-Star Game and sixthteam Class A all-state.
Off the field: High honor
roll student, also part of
Lansingburgh National
Honor Society... plays for
Lansingburgh Youth Soccer Club.
Up next: Considering
Russell Sage and Paul
Smith College.

Cohoes, Senior, Defender

Stats:
A strong
presence
along the
back line,
Gomes led
a Cohoes
defense
that gave
up just 27 goals in an
extremely competitive
Colonial Council this
season.
Honors: Named a firstteam Colonial Council
all-star.
Off the field: Gomes was
a first quarter honor roll
student at Cohoes High
School this year.
Up next: Gomes will wrap
up her athletic career at
Cohoes High this spring,
competing with the Tigers track and field team,
a sport she excelled in last
season.

Saratoga, Senior, Defender

Stats: The
last line of
the Blue
Streaks
literal
defense,
Cocozzo
was an
expert at slowing down
opponents; epsecially in
front of the net. In fact,
some of the captains defensive stands, helped set
up her own offense and
she finished the season
three assists.
Honors: Named a secondteam Suburban Council
all-star.
Off the field: Was honored by Saratoga High
School and the Saratoga
Rotary Club as one of 392
junior and seniors with a
cumalative average of at
least a 90%.
Up next: Has yet to make
an official decision on her
college plans for next fall.

Burnt Hills, Senior, Midfield

Stats:
A multifaceted
player who
was a driving force
for BHBL,
Malone
finished the season with
five goals and three assists, helping to lead the
Spartans to yet another
Section II Class A championship appearance this
fall.
Honors: Named a firstteam Suburban Coucnil
all-star.
Off the field: A consistent honor roll student at
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake
High School.
Up next: Malone officially
signed her National Letter
of Intent last month, committing to play Division I
soccer at the University of
Albany.

Coach of the Year

Dan Carpenter

Catholic Central
The long-time Crusaders coach faced a difficult task
this season, despite leading a veteran squad on the field.
For the first time in decades, Catholic Central played a
non-league schedule, following the break-up of the Big
10 last spring, and took on opponents all over the section
as well as the state. It made for a hard-fought season,
but one that ended with a little history as the Crusaders
returned to Section II postsesaon play and notched the
programs first-ever Section II championship, defeating
Voorheesville in the Class B final on an overtime goal by
Lexi Riffelbach. Although CCHS season ended in the
first round of the NYS Tournament, it was still a historic
run for Carpenter and the Crusaders, many of which will
return to next years squad as well.
