AIM:
To make the students understand the concept of bulk deformation processes, Machines - special
purpose lathes, shapers, slotting, broaching, drilling, sawing, milling, boring, gear cutting, grinding and
introducing CNC controls in machine tools
OBJECTIVE
To understand the concept and basic mechanics of metal cutting
To understand the working of standard machine tools such as lathe, shaping and allied
machines,
To understand the working of Reciprocating machine tools
To study the Abrasive processes and gear cutting processes.
To understand the basic concepts of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool and
CNC programming.
UNIT I SPECIAL PURPOSE LATHES & RECIPROCATING MACHINE TOOLS

Capstan and turret lathes automats single spindle, Swiss type automatic screw type, multi spindle
- Turret Indexing mechanism, Bar feed mechanism, Shaper, Planer, Slotter, Quick return
mechanisms, Broaching machines: push, pull, surface and continuous broaching machines
