BEFORE USE

FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY

Before using the highpressure cleaner, be sure
to also read the enclosed
operating instructions and
keep them within reach at
all times.
The high-pressure cleaner
may only be used by
persons instructed in its
use and
who have been expressly
authorised to do so.

GENERAL
Use of the high-pressure
cleaner is subject to the
applicable local regulations.
In addition to the operating instructions and the
binding accident prevention regulations in the
country of use, the
generally recognised rules
for safe working must also
be observed.
Any method of use
endangering the safety of
persons or equipment is
forbidden.

Before use, check that the

high-pressure cleaner is in
a safe and proper condition.
Plugs and connectors of
mains power leads must
be at least splash waterproof.
Inspect the main power
lead at regular intervals for
damage and/or ageing.
Use the high-pressure
cleaner only when the
mains power lead is in a
safe condition.
(risk of electric shock if
damaged!).
Operate the cleaner only
in an upright position!
Important notes:
Do not connect the cleaner
directly to the public
drinking water mains
(observe
DIN 1988 and EN 1717).
A connection is permitted,
however:

briefly to a pipe
interrupter with
moving section
with a free outlet

Water may also be

drawn from an open
container or from a well
or surface water not
intended for the drinking water supply.
Please use suction set
for this. Ensure that

neither dirty water nor

liquids containing
solvents are sucked in.
Please observe the
regulations and provisions applicable in your
country. Before putting
the high-pressure
cleaner into service,
carry out a visual check
of all the major components.
High-pressure jets can
be dangerous if misused. The jet must not be
directed at persons,
animals, live electrical
equipment or the
cleaner itself.
During operation of the
cleaner, recoil forces
are produced at the
spraying device ad,
when the spray lance is
held at an angle, a
torque is also created.
The spraying
device must therefore
be held firmly in both
hands.
Do not direct the jet
towards yourself or
towards other persons in
order to clean clothes or
footwear.
Risk of injury!
Do not use the cleaner
when other people without
protective clothing are in
the
working area. Check that

cleaning will not result in

dangerous substances (e.g.
asbestos, oil) being washed
off the object to be cleaned
and harming the environment.
Do not clean delicate parts
made of rubber, fabric, etc.
with the round jet. Hold the
nozzle at a distance of at
least 15 cm when cleaning
with the high-pressure flat
jet.
Although extremely easy
to operate, children
should not be allowed to
use the cleaner.
Do not use the highpressure hose for lifting
loads.
Do not continue to use the
cleaner if the mains power
lead or high-pressure hose is
damaged.
Ensure an adequate air
circulation. Do not cover
the cleaner or operate it in
inadequately ventilated
rooms!
If the overload protection
device trips (motor cuts
out), release the trigger of
the spray gun, insert the
trigger locking device and
turn the ON/OFF switch to
position O. Allow the
cleaner to cool down for at
least 3 minutes!

Store the cleaner where it

will not be exposed to
frost!
Never operate the cleaner
without water. Even brief
shortages of water result
in severe damage to the
pump seals.
The pressure-bearing parts
of this high-pressure
cleaner have been
manufactured in
accordance with 9 of the
German Pressure Vessels
Ordinance and successfully
subjected to a pressure
test.

nance work on the

cleaner.
Carry out only the maintenance operations described in the operating
instructions.
Use only original Alto
spare parts. Do not make
any technical modifications to the
high-pressure cleaner.
CAUTION!
High-pressure hoses,
fittings and couplings are
important for the safety of
the cleaner. Use only highpressure parts approved by
the manufacturer!

OPERATION
Do not damage the mains
power lead (e.g. by driving
over it, pulling or crushing
it).

Remove the plug from the

plug socket directly at the
plug (not by pulling or
tearing at
the mains power lead).

CAUTION!
Failure to observe these
instructions can endanger
your safety.
Please contact the Alto
service department or
an authorised specialist
work-shop for all other
maintenance or repair
work!

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
MAINTENANCE AND
REPAIR
CAUTION!
Always remove the plug
from the mains plug
socket before cleaning
or carrying out mainte-

Check the rated voltage of

the high-pressure cleaner
before connecting it to the
mains power supply. Ensure
that the voltage specified on
the rating plate corresponds
to the local mains supply
voltage.

Cleaners intended for

commercial use must be
equipped with a mains
power lead type H 07 RN-F
by a qualified electrician.
The mains power lead must
not differ from the version
specified by the manufacturer and may only be changed
by an electrician.
If your 3-phase cleaner was
supplied without a plug,
have it fitted with a suitable
3-phase plug with protective conductor contact by an
electrician.
The mains power lead must
not differ from that
specified by the manufacturer.
We strongly recommend
that the power supply to the
high-pressure cleaner be
connected via a residualcurrent circuit breaker which
interrupts the power supply
either if the leakage current
to earth exceeds 30 mA for
30 ms or which contains an
earth testing circuit.
If an extension lead is used,
please observe the minimum cross-section of the
lead:
Lead length Cross-section
m
mm
up to 20
1.5
20 to 50
2.5

If an extension lead is used,

all live parts (plug, cable,
plug socket) must be
located so that the protection class watertight is
ensured. This can also be
achieved by
protecting the lead.

CAUTION!
Unsuitable extension leads
can represent a source of
danger.

resistance and the leakage

current must be measured.
Furthermore, a visual
inspection of the mains
power lead, a voltage and
current measurement and a
function test must be carried
out. Our after-sales service
technicians are at your
disposal as authorised
inspectors.

The cleaner may only be

connected to a correctly
installed plug socket.

The complete Accident

Prevention Regulations for
Working with Liquid Spray
Jet Devices are available
from the Carl Heymanns
Verlag KG, Luxemburger
Strasse
449, 50939 Cologne or
from the appropriate
association of employers
liability insurances.

TESTING

SAFETY DEVICE

The cleaner conforms to the

Guidelines for Liquid Spray
Jet Devices. The highpressure cleaner must be
subjected to a safety
examination in accordance
with the
Accident Prevention
Regulations for Working
with Liquid Spray Jet
Devices as required, but at
least every 12 months, by an
authorised inspector.
After all repairs or modifications to electrical equipment, the protective
conductor
resistance, the insulation

Unacceptably high pressure

is fed back without residual
pressure via a bypass line
into the intake line of the
pump when the safety
device is tripped. The safety
device is set and sealed at
the factory and must not be
adjusted.

CAUTION!
Never spray electrical
equipment with water:
Danger for persons, danger
of short-circuit.

INSTRUCTIONS AND
OBSERVE THE
ENCLOSED SAFETY
NOTES!
Dear Wap customer,
We thank you for the faith which
you have placed in Wap and are
sure that you have made the
right decision.

Unsuitable cleaning
agents lead to poor
cleaning results and
cause damage to the
machine. Predilute the
concentrate as
instructed.

No.

Use only Wap products developed for your high-pressure

cleaner as cleaning agents.

BEFORE STARTING WORK

If the machine is to be operated

at fuel stations or in other
potentially hazardous areas, the
machine may only be employed
outside the hazard areas defined
in the "Technical Guidelines for
Inflammable Fluids" applicable at
the point of use due to the
potential explosion hazard posed
by the burner.
If the machine is to be operated
indoors, the local building
regulations must be observed for
the discharge of the exhaust
fumes into the atmosphere.
Ensure an adequate supply of
fresh air.
If the machine is to be connected

to a flue gas stack, the state

building regulations must be
observed. We will be glad to
provide tips for connection
systems, on request.
The machine must be supervised
at all times so that the operator
can notice when the flame goes
out.
Secure the machine with
the parking brake (Fig. 2).
Check the oil level in the
high-pressure pump (Fig. 3).
Fill the cleaning agent tank
with prediluted Wap cleaning
agent.
With the machine cold:
Pour fuel (fuel oil EL, biodiesel
E to DIN 51 606 or diesel fuel
to DIN 51 603) into the fuel
tank.
The fuel must be free from
contamination.

CAUTION!
Unsuitable fuels must not be
used as they can represent a
source of danger.
At temperatures below 8 C,
the fuel oil begins to solidify
(paraffin precipitation). This
can lead to difficulties in
starting the burner. Before the
winter period either add a
solidification point / flow
improver (available from the
fuel oil trade) to the fuel or use
winter diesel fuel.
Fill the tank for the Wap
automatic scale alarm system.
"Wap Anti-Scale" prevents
any deposits of scale and acts
at the same time as a corrosion inhibitor. Use the bottle
supplied with the pack for
filling (Fig. 4). For compatibility reasons, use only the tested
"Wap Anti-Scale". Order the
refill pack 6 x 1000 ml, No.
8466, in good time.
Screw the high-pressure hose
firmly onto the VarioPress
trigger gun1), pushing back the
slide of the locking pin (Fig. 5/
1 + 5/2).
Securely tighten the screw of
the Roto-Fix high-pressure
spray lance, at the same time
pushing back the slide of the
locking pin (Fig. 5/3 + 5/4).
Connect the water hose (Fig. 6).
The use of a fabric-reinforced
water hose with a nominal
diameter of at least 1/2" (13
mm) is recommended.
Connect the high-pressure
hose to the high-pressure
connection. Ensure that the
union nut is securely tightened
(Fig. 7)!

priate protective clothing (e.g.

gloves, face mask, apron).
Only approved scale removers
may be used for descaling.
Use Wap Anti-Scale, No. 8326
With regular use of Wap AntiScale, descaling will normally
not be necessary.
Incorrect operation of the machine or the use of non-approved
cleaning agents can cause
deposits in the pipework system.
Scaling is caused by the water
hardness and is indicated by a
gradual increase in the water
pressure displayed on the pressure gauge.
If the working pressure is exceeded by 10 bar (with the VarioPress trigger gun open), the
system must be descaled.
Procedure:
Unscrew the high-pressure
nozzle from the spray lance
and place separately in the
Wap scale remover.
Draw in Wap scale remover
via the metering valve by
hanging a cleaning agent
hose into the scale remover
bottle and setting the metering valve to maximum
concentration.
Hold the spray lance in a
separate container to collect
the discharged liquid.
Switch on the high-pressure
pump.
Actuate the trigger gun. Wap
scale remover is drawn in and
emerges from the spray lance
foaming vigorously after
approx. 1 minute.
Switch off the high-pressure
pump and allow the scale
remover to work for approx.
15 minutes.
Flush out the pump system
well with clean water.
After approx. 2 minutes, a
steady jet of water must
emerge at the water outlet
tube. If this is not the case,
repeat the descaling procedure.
Screw the high-pressure
nozzle onto the spray lance.

12

FROST PROTECTION
If the high-pressure cleaner is
stored in a room in which temperatures of below 0 C can occur,
antifreeze must first be flushed
through the pump.
During the flushing process,
actuate the trigger gun 2 or 3
times.
In order to avoid any risk, the
machine should preferably be
stored for a short period in a
heated room before it is put into
service again.
