Second Third of the Disciple Cycle:
First Story of Hope: The House of Peace
(Tell the story, read the story, and share the story)

(NIV) Luke: [5.27-32] 27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a
tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth.
Follow me, Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left
everything and followed him. 29 Then Levi held a great
banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax
collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the
Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their
sect complained to his disciples, Why do you eat and drink
with tax collectors and sinners? 31 Jesus answered them,
It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I
have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
Luke 19:1-10 19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing
through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he
was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to
see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not
see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a
sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that
way. 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said
to him, Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at
your house today. 6 So he came down at once and

welcomed him gladly. 7 All the people saw this and began to
mutter, He has gone to be the guest of a sinner. 8 But
Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, Look, Lord! Here
and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I
have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four
times the amount. 9 Jesus said to him, Today salvation
has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of
Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save
the lost.
Acts 16:13-16; 40 13 On the Sabbath we went outside the
city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of
prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who
had gathered there. 14 One of those listening was a woman
from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple
cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her
heart to respond to Pauls message. 15 When she and the
members of her household were baptized, she invited us to
her home. If you consider me a believer in the Lord, she
said, come and stay at my house. And she persuaded us.
40 After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to
Lydias house, where they met with the brothers and sisters
and encouraged them. Then they left.
Acts 16:25-34: 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were
praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners
were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent
earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken.
At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyones chains
came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the
prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill
himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
28 But Paul shouted, Dont harm yourself! We are all here!
29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling
before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and
asked, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 They replied,
Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be savedyou and

your household. 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to

him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the
night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then
immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The
jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before
them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe
in Godhe and his whole household.
