New features
Selecting CAD models (see page 10) The New Document Wizard
has been extended to allow multi-selection of files in the Open
dialog.
From Point Cloud alignment (see page 12) A new option in the
Alignment From Point Cloud dialog enables you to create an
alignment using only part of the cloud.
Dynamic points (see page 16) The Dynamic Points toolbar has
been extended to allow the export of points to file. The format of
the export file has been expanded to allow the export and import
of edge points.
Importing edge points (see page 18) The Tools > Import points
menu includes a new option for creating a guided edge point
group from a file of points.
New features 1
Measuring the part (see page 36) The Feature Probing dialog
has been redesigned to improve usability and to provide more
information, such as nominals, deviations, and errors, as items
are measured.
Product Licenses (see page 87) The type of licence you are
using is now shown in the title bar of the PowerINSPECT window,
and more licence details are displayed in the About dialog.
2 New features
Calibration quality
Calibration quality 3
When the Use form tolerance setting check box is selected in the
Calibration Settings dialog (see page 5), the view can show a new
Poorly Calibrated icon, which indicates the probe or position is
calibrated, but the measured sphericity of the calibration sphere is
outside the form tolerance. When you use a poorly calibrated
position to probe an item, a warning message asks whether you
want to continue with the measurement.
4 Calibration quality
Calibration quality 5
When you calibrate the probe head, the wizard shows the effective
diameter of the probe and the sphericity of the measured calibration
sphere for each probe position. For example:
6 Calibration quality
When the Use form tolerance setting check box is selected in the
Calibration Settings dialog (see page 5), the Manual Calibration dialog
displays the sphericity of the measured calibration sphere, and
whether the value is within the specified form tolerance. For
example:

8 Calibration quality
To save the calibration records to a text file, click the Export button.

The New Document Wizard has been extended to allow multiselection of files from the Open dialog. This enables you to quickly
select all the files you need for an inspection instead of having to
select one model at a time. In addition, you can select multiple files
using the Add CAD button in the CAD tab.
To select the models for a new document:
1 Click
in the Main toolbar, or select the File > New Document
Wizard menu option. The New Document Wizard is displayed.
2 Select Measurement with multiple CAD parts, and click Next. The
CAD page of the wizard is displayed.
You cannot open more than one file when you select
Measurement with a single CAD part.
and
The From Point Cloud alignment method contains a new option that
enables you to align the part to the model using only part of the
cloud. This enables you to create an alignment when the model is
incomplete, or when the accuracy of the scan varies across the part.
To create a From Point Cloud alignment from a partial model:
1 In the Alignments toolbar, click
Cloud dialog is displayed.
2 Enter a Name for the alignment, and select the Output in Report
check box if you want to include the alignment in the report.
3 Select the Use selection check box to use only part of the point
cloud.
4 In the Reference Point Cloud list, select the point cloud with which
you want to create the alignment. Alternatively, click
the point cloud from the CAD view.
to select
5 Click OK to close the dialog and create the Alignment from Point
Cloud item.
6 Display the CAD model and the point cloud in the CAD view.
7 In the Point Cloud toolbar, select the Picking Mode Selector, and
choose a picking mode.
8 In the CAD view, select the area of the point cloud you want to
use for the alignment. For example:
9 Select the alignment item in the sequence tree, and play it.
PowerINSPECT aligns the part to the CAD model, and
superimposes the point cloud over the part. For example:

A new option has been added to the Tools > Import points menu
enabling you to create guided edge inspection group from a file of
points. The file must be in ASCII format. In addition:
Each row must specify the position (X, Y, Z) of the point and the
vector (I, J, K) of the surface normal.
9 When the import is complete, the points are displayed in the CAD
view, and a message reports the number of points imported.
Click OK to close the message, and click Finish to close the
wizard. The points are displayed in the inspection sequence.
A new Restore Original Order sort option has been added to the
context menu of the Sequence Tree that enables you undo the last
sort applied to an inspection or section group. Use it when you have
previously ordered the points in the group manually and then want
reverse a subsequently applied Sort by Deviation or Sort by Name.
To restore the sort order of a group:
1 Right-click the group item or a point within the group.
2 Select Restore Original Order from the context menu. The points
are returned to the order immediately prior to the last sort made
on the group.
Probed Ellipse
A new Probed Ellipse item has been added to the Features toolbar.
To measure the item, you must probe a minimum of four points
distributed around its circumference
You cannot create an ellipse using the Wireframe Checker or
the Paste Special option.
To create a probed ellipse:
1 In the Features toolbar, click
displayed.
22 Probed Ellipse
7 If you want to measure a partial ellipse, enter the Start and End
angle relative to the Main axis.
8 In the Material side list, select the side from which you want to
probe the ellipse.
9 In the Reference plane list, select the plane on which you want to
project the ellipse.
10 If you want to offset the ellipse from the reference plane, or
allow for surface thickness, enter the average distance from the
plane in the Offset/Thickness box.
To calculate the average height of the feature from the
measurements, select the Calculate from measurement check
box.

Part compensation
32 Part compensation
3 If you want to compensate for comparing the part with its mold,
enter the multiplier by which you want to scale measurements in
the Shrinkage factor box. For example:
If you are comparing a part with a model of the mold, and the
shrinkage is 3%, enter a multiplier of 1.03.
If you are comparing a mold with a model of the part, and the
shrinkage is 1.5%, enter a multiplier of 0.985.
Part compensation 33
3 If you are comparing a part with the model of its mold, or a mold
with the model of its part, and want to override the default
Shrinkage factor:
a Select Use different shrinkage factor for this measure.
b Enter a new Shrinkage factor.
34 Part compensation

3 Select the values you want to display for each item, and click OK
to save your changes.
You can specify the default configuration settings using the
Full-screen measurement page (see page 85) of the Options
dialog. If the nominals are not available for an item, these
settings have no effect.
4 Select other probing options using the other buttons in the dialog
toolbar.
5 Probe the part.
6 When you have probed enough points to define the feature, the
measurement values are displayed at the top of each column,
together with the details you selected. The values are colourcoded to indicate whether each dimension is above (red), within
(green), or below (blue) tolerance. For example:
If the item has a probe path, or you have selected the Autoaccept button, the dialog is closed and your measurements
are saved as soon as you have probed the specified number of
points.
