Kapatagan Valley Outreach Holds First BCMR

The first BCMR of Kapatagan Valley Outreach on
Sept 24-26, 2011, had 13
couples in attendance.
The BCMR was held at
the scenic Mindanao Civic

Norte. The beautifully landscaped venue is a Hotel
managed and maintained by
the provincial government.
Amazingly it was the

Forgiving from the Heart

September 1st Friday Mass
celebrant, Fr. Emie Maningo ( a
Redemptorist priest assigned at
Holy Family Retreat House),
gave the teaching on forgiveness
during his homily.
Fr. Emie shared about Gods
forgiving nature. Sinful as we are
He gave us Jesus, the divine
Son, so that man can become
divine.
Being sons and daughters of
God, this divine nature should
also be our nature. Because to
forgive is not so much for the

other. It is for the one who

forgives. However, when we
forgive somebody it does not
mean that the other party does
not have any obligation for the
crime. As we forgive we cut the
tie so that the person no longer
have the power over us.
Fr. Emie added: To forgive
is a grace, so ask for it even if it
is hard to do. He then gave a
tip on forgiveness, that is to pray
and reflect on the Our Father.

Fr. Emerardo Maningo

to forgive is not so much for the

other. It is for the one who forgives.

Never frown even when you are sad, coz you never know who gets inspired when you smile. To the
world you maybe just one person, but to one person, you maybe the world.

Teaching

TAY TAYAN
Gods Purpose for Humanity
Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Fr. Martin

The old catechism answered the question, Why did God create us? by stating that
God created us to love Him, know Him, worship Him and live eternally with Him in
heaven. These four assertions summed up the purpose of God for humanity, all God did
for us were embedded in these four answers. Taking them one by one analyzing them viz;
a) To Love Him - This is a fact that God loved us first, if He did not, why bother to create us in the first place, we all know the famous gospel of Johns passage that say for
God so love the world that He gave His only son... Gods love for us is the beginning of
everything that we know of Him. Since the beginning of the world, we can recount different stories and passages that demonstrate about this love, that is so unconditional,
given without even us asking for it and all the rest. These love was culminated in Christ
Jesus dying for us on the cross showing us that love pains, but yet rewarding when done
for the sake of the good of others. With the above in mind, we ask ourselves, if God did
love us, then it is natural that we return such unconditional love to Him, but he told us
how from the mouth of His Son, you should love the Lord your God with all your
hearts and also you should love your fellow human beings as you love yourself. So
loving God is more expressed in our love for others as He did and we know what it
means to love our brothers and sisters in a Christ-like love known as agape. In doing
that, therefore we express our love for God and hence living out one of the reasons
why he created us.
b) To Know Him - One thing to return the love of God to Him through loving humanity,
but doing that requires that we should know our object of Love, in this case God Himself. God does exist independent of our human knowledge, in other words, whether
there are human beings or not, God is there and self-knowing, but for us humans, we
need to know Him in order to relate with Him. Knowing God is not just through knowing His name, but to be consciously seeking to know Him.
c) To Worship Him - In one of the prefaces of the Roman Missal, we use to say You
(God) did not need our praise, yet our desire to praise You is a gift from You, this summarized why we praise and worship God, it is a gift to humanity to worship His creator.
Humanity from time immemorial have worshiped God. Religion is as old as man and
have survived different kinds of distractions from human beings. Its style may change
with each generation, but the purpose remains the same and that is why we can safely
say that to worship God is a gift from Him that bring about the inner desire of human
beings to praise and worship Him.
d) And to Live Eternally With Him in Heaven - When we love God, know and worship Him, it will lead us to live with Him in His kingdom. This is the will of God and also
it is our human desire to be with Him in whatever form. The hope for eternal life with
God is so clearly defined by Christ himself who told us that he will come again to take
us to the Father, this will be His last act, and in conformity with the will of God.
So Gods purpose for us is clear and it calls for all of us to know this process and live it
throughout our lives on earth and that is what we call Christian living, we are in the right
revealed religion where our doctrines where defined and given to us by the Son of God
himself.

When God takes something away from your grasp, Hes not pushing you but merely emptying your
hand to receive a bigger blessing.

SUKI Trading Pioneers Garbage Gasifier in Philippines
Engr. Vic Ocon of BCBP Mactan through his company, Suki Trading Corporation, has successfully manufactured the first small-scale garbage gasifier in our
country. This gasifier converts garbage into clean gas to produce heat, mechanical
and electrical power.
The fully functional machine is now being tested and offered for demo to interested parties in their factory in Agus, Lapu-Lapu city. They can customize the
design of the garbage gasifier according to the needs of the customer with power
ranging from 10 to 100 kWe.
Its possible applications are:

Engr. Vic Ocon

Sharing of a Troubled Heart

Ate Emma Nadela

On the eve of my birthday, God gifted me with His consoling presence. I badly
needed it that day for I felt so frustrated, hurt, and angry.
It has been almost three years since we were accused of criminal acts by our
neighbors, who used to be our close friends. They may think otherwise, but we know
that we have been falsely accused and it seems there is no end to our being harassed.
We have been appearing in several government agencies to defend ourselves and we
have not been found guilty of their accusations. The final blow came early that morning when we received calls from friends and BCBP members telling us that the front
pages of the local newspapers were bannering with their accusations. This incident
has truly tested my faith, patience, and perseverance.
Human as I am, I felt intense anger and hatred towards my accusers. I poured out
all my sentiments to my Action Group members during our AGM held in our home
that night. Satan would like nothing better than for me to be bitter, to be full of
grudges, and to fall to self pity. But my Action Group members consoling words and
their prayers gave me the grace to perceive the works of the devil and to rebuke
him. I decided to open myself to Gods healing power.
That night, during my prayer time, I recalled my husband Casis constant reminder
that not only do we have to willingly pick-up and carry our cross; we must allow
ourselves to be crucified on it, die, and then be resurrected - just like the passion and
death and resurrection of Jesus. But Jesus never cursed His tormentors while He
hung on the cross. He even declared his forgiveness towards them. Jesus entirely left
His fate to His Father.
These thoughts made it easier for me to forgive. And so like Jesus, who only asked
once in the garden of Gethsemane to let this cup pass My way and thereafter faced
His tormentors in silence and submission, I decided to face my tormentors also in
complete submission to Gods will.
God also led me to a devotional reading, dated August 16, my birthday. It quoted
an 18th century writer Jean-Pierre de Caussade who gave the following advice to attain true forgiveness:

Pray constantly for the person who has offended you.

Keep completely silent, speaking about it to no one in order to lighten your
grief.

Do not voluntarily think of it, but direct your mind to blessed and useful
thoughts.

Keep watch over your heart lest it surrender itself even in the slightest to
bitterness and voluntary rebelliousness.

Cost what it may; behave well towards the persons who have offended you as
though nothing has happened.

Emma

Nadela

(Ate Emma Nadela is the wife of Kuya Casi Nadela, the first Chapter Head of BCBP Mactan)
Kind words may be short and easy to say but their echoes are truly endless. May you be an echo of
kindness to everyone whose lives you will touch.
