The chapter headship

the Lord and the community.

also vital. Presence to all

the many ways to show support.
Let us pray for kuya Guy

While the men had their
singing spree, the lady members rose from their benches
to fill the dance floor. Everybody had a grand time dancing, sweating the cholesterol
away.
Christmas is a time to give
and give. Through the generosity of the members, everybody, young and once young
alike, brought home a gift.
Christmas party 2011 was
very happy for BCBP Mactan.

Obstacles dont frighten a heart that has a firm faith because it knows well that
Gods love doesnt abandon those who trust in Him.

Chapter Heads Message

As we welcome a new year we
cannot stop but think of a new
hope and new expectation. Why
we hope and why we expect?
Human as we are we cannot just
depend our future to our God.
We may have aged in BCBP but it
is not a guarantee for us to have a
worry free tomorrow. Our yesterday will tell us the degree of
our hope and expectation of the
future.
Often times we will quantify
our sufferings and any tribulation
in life as in material production.
We tend to forget that those
things are meant to happen for a
reason more meaningful than our
material wants. The mere fact
that we reach this far is because
we are blessed.
Accepting the call to be the

head servant of BCBP Mactan

few months ago gives me a lot of
apprehensions though signs were
very clear of His calling, my human aspect weakens me at times.
This early I had my share of harassments which justified the biblical passage that says; When you
follow me keep watch and be
prepared.
In spite the cohesive attitude
and collective effort of the new
governance team we know that
we can only do so much. Therefore everybodys role and active
participation will mean so much
in bringing back the caring attitude of the past that seems vanishing now a days.
Please bear with us as we will
from time to time solicit your
opinions thru surveys and sugges-

tions on how we can better fulfill

our vision and mission. Rest assured that we will duly consider
what ever inputs we can gather
from you.
This is not the time to say
what I can get from BCBP but
rather the time to say what I can
do for the Lord thru BCBP.
Our wish for a Prosperous
New Year.

BCBP Celebrates National Day of Thanksgiving on January 6

All BCBP Chapters and Outreaches nationwide and community-wide celebrate the Brotherhoods traditional annual Day of
Thanksgiving on the first Friday of
the New Year, this year on Friday,
January 6, 2012. The celebration is
marked by a Eucharistic celebration, intercessory prayers and
fasting. The purpose of BCBPs
National Day of Thanksgiving is to
thank God for all the blessings
and graces bestowed on the community and its members during
the past year and to pray for His
blessing for the work of the New
Year.
The BCBP is a community of
like-minded Christian businessmen and professionals who have

consciously decided to band together to bring about the transformation of the marketplace, and, in
doing so, to win the marketplace
for Christ. Bringing Christ into the
marketplace and winning the marketplace for Him means bringing
about a radical change in the value
system of business to one that is
based on genuine and sustainable
Christ-centric business tenets of
steward leadership, justice and
integrity, and professional excellence. This is the work for the
New Year that the BCBP community will lift to God in prayer for
His guidance and help.
The BCBP Way of Life is a
transformative way of life, encompassing the practice of moral in-

tegrity and Christian values not

only in the business milieu, but
also in each members family life,
as well as in the life of the BCBP
Community as a whole. During
the Day of Thanksgiving prayers
will also be lifted up by the members for each other and for their
families for the Holy Spirit to be a
transformative influence in their
lives throughout the New Year.
May God bless the BCBP!

Not all we wanted is given to us. It may not turn out

the way we expected but at the end well see that what we have is better than what we
wanted.

Christmas Recollection
Christian Charity
Fr. Jojo De Los Reyes SVD

Charity is often ambivalently used that:

Refers to individual or societys consideration to those who cannot afford
to help themselves.

Fr. Jojo, the brother of

ate Babie Atoc, gave
the recollection held at
Mactan Airbase chapel,
Dec 10, 2011.

Refers to money and goods Christians are asked to provide.

Refers to good deeds done for those whom we dont necessarily like
Refers to an external appropriation of faith.
Characteristics of Christian Charity
It is based on Gods love
It moves from internal to external appropriation of faith.
It shifts from static and inward looking to process and outward looking

mindset.
Static mindset - considers that the most important thing in life is to
preserve and the worst thing that can happen is to make mistake.
Process mindset - considers that the most important thing in life is to
explore, to probe, to try. The worst thing is not to try.
Inward looking - Sees only ones own motive and benefits, existing
only for oneself.
Outward looking - The person considers self as the light of the world
and salt of the earth. It is focused on common good.

It is modeled after the mentality of Jesus Christ.

The Mentality of Jesus Christ
Optimizing focus - He looks at things, events and people with a

wider perspective. There is no limit to the possibilities. He sees all

the potentials and capabilities of a person. He is flexible.
Empowering thoughts - Jesus has a positive and optimistic outlook
because of His optimized focus; positive thoughts, happy thoughts,
forgiving thoughts, non-judgmental thoughts, accepting thoughts,
open questions are all empowering and enabling thoughts.
Evaluating love - Jesus, like his Abba, has a loving mentality. He
looks at people and everything lovingly with the eyes of love, with
a compassionate and forgiving heart.

Charity is not just giving things or money. Charity is denying oneself, it is a selfless
stand, often hidden, for the benefit of another person or people.

Happy New Year!

Teaching
Marriage; Keeping it for a Lifetime
Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Marriage could be defined as, the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, or the state, condition, or relationship of being married; a religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple, including the accompanying social festivities. This essentially defines what we practice when people of the opposite sexes come together to live in love and harmony thereby producing what we call family.
Looking at it socially, it is an essential component of the society whereby each race propagates its existence
and populates to avoid extermination. It is always governed by societal or conventional laws.
In the religious phenomenon or in the church, marriage is seen as coming together of man and woman
through the commandment of God, being in union with God for the propagation of Gods family on earth.
Hence, marriage is of divine nature, obtaining its origin and existence from God. Gods work of creation was
given to humanity through marriage to continue the work of procreation and nurturing in a loving relationship that imitates the Trinitarian love. It is an unbreakable bond of love that unites two people for the sole
purpose of continuing the work of creation and hence is a life time commitment.
But today, due to societal pressures and human weaknesses, marriage in some cases is no longer perceived as what it ought to be, a life time union of minds and heart. Humanity have come to believe falsely that
marriage may no longer be for a lifetime, and this notion have crept its way into the church. There are many
reasons why marriages fell apart and each problematic marriage or broken one are due to the so many reasons which I do not intent to write in this reflection, I would rather offer three means of helping to restore
wholeness to marriages in our community.
RESTORE- anything that has gone bad or problematic could still be restored, that is if both partners are willing to restore their initial zeal and flame that fanned their love for each other in the beginning. One major
way to restore marriages flavour is through the means of communication. This is an act where the partners involve agree to talk to each other in an open manner, either with themselves or with a third party.
Opening a line of communication is important as it will bring out all the hurts feelings that got stuck in the
hearts and blocked any effort towards reconciliations.
RENEW- all marital problem is a commitment shattered, hence there is a need to renew that commitment,
not through public celebration, as I have witnessed, couples divorcing after celebrating silver jubilee of
marriage, but a genuine commitment full of desire to go back to the days of old for the sake of everything
that is good.
REKINDLE-just like a light that went out, it has to be rekindled for it to flame again, in this case, romance is
the means of achieving that in marriage, going back to the days of sweetheart (uyab), finding time to be
alone together, taking vacation etc.
All the above are practical means to bring back to troubled couple the essence of their marriage together,
but we all know that without God all the above suggestions may not work, so in all God and He alone stands
at the center of any successful marriages and brings about reward to those who make effort to restore, renew and rekindle their life together as married couple. Can we give it a try? Yes we can, and there is everything to gain, your love back, the family once more live happily and God once more become the center of
your union. Bag-ong tuig, bag-ong kinabuhi as we sing in manaygon, so let us make it our New Year resolution that our marriage will work (of course wa koy labot hehehehe)
I am praying for all of you, mostly those in difficult and troubled marriage, that the glow of Christmas will
enlighten your married life and that the New Year will bring tidings of joy to your union.
A great life is all about doing something rare. To cherish without comparing. To forgive without blaming, and to love without counting the cost.

Happy New Year!

A Beautiful Year Ending

Nery Gula

The year 2011 ended great for our

family. God in His amazing ways made
December vacation a time for visitation. We did more than what we
planned to.
From Dec 19-21 we were in
Panglao, Bohol for the 1st death anniversary of my Mom. Seven out of ten
of siblings came to remember and
honor my Mom. Gods provision is
indeed awesome. Fr. Romy, an SVD
priest, who gave my Mom her last
sacraments and celebrated the Holy
Mass at her wake at St. Peter, is now
assigned in Tagbilaran. He, together
with another priest, blessed my Moms
gravesite and celebrated the Holy Mass
for my Moms 1st death anniversary.
Back here in Lapulapu City, On the
24th, we visited some friends bringing
along our pasalubong from Bohol.
December 26-29, we were in Taclo-

ban City. It was an unplanned vacation.

We were requested to stand witness
to the marriage of Juns nephew on
December 28. I believe it was Gods
way of bringing us to visit Juns
re;latives since our last was four years
ago.
In all that had happened, God
showed us the importance of getting
connected to people who matter to
us. We spent some amount for these
vacations and scrimped on things we
should have wanted. But it was worth
it. The laughter, the joy and the memories of 2011 vacation are priceless.
More so to our children who enjoyed
their vacation the most.
God is gracious. 2011 was a year
filled with beautiful experiences. It is
with the same hope that we welcome
year 2012.

Members from Cebu, Mactan, and Mandaue

We finally had our first and

much awaited Mactan / Cebu /
Mandaue BCBP get together
attended by 13 couples and 2
singles last Dec 26th hosted by
Bobby and Tisha Lloren at their
lovely place in Milton. Said affair
was organized by Cleofe Cornelio. We started with praise
and worship led by Bobby with
Rey and Jojo accompanying with
their guitars, followed by a
sumptuous lunch capped with a
lechon. Then we had our lunch
mini-sharing. We did not have a
problem with the sharers. Everybody eagerly and gamely
shared on how each one was
able to cope up in our first few

years in Canada. We shared our

early struggles, our travails as
new immigrants and how our
faith in God kept us going and
made us rise above our situations. God is alive in the hearts
of our brothers and sisters. We
shared the tears, the fun and
the laughter and how each one
of us slowly found our niche
here in Canada. As Tisha said as
she ended her sharing, "God
planted a dream in our hearts
and He made those dreams
come true."

BCBP Mactan Supports SHJP Childrens Festival

The children with

their gifts

A thousand children
filled the church!

They say that Christmas is for children.

This saying came true to one thousand children coming from different chapels of the
Parish.
Despite the rain last December 26, 2011,
the parish held a Childrens festival where
children were treated to a hearty snack and
given school supplies.
BCBP Mactan supported this activity by
giving 500 writing pads and two thousand
cash.
It is always wonderful to give and make
children happy.

together with God we have weathered the storm and we have conquered our fears.
Most of us always desire a perfect situation, a perfect life. On the other hand our
Lord our God does not grant a perfect life, what He gives instead is a perfect heart.
