Configuring a switch
The switch will now need to be initialized by assigning it an IP address. Once this is done you can manage
and administer the switch over the LAN using Web Tools or Telnet. The assignment of an IP address
requires creating a Serial link to the switch.
The following procedu re will detail on how to set an IP address.

It is recommended that you configure the IP Address of the switch prior to attaching the Ethernet
port to the network to alleviate potential IP Address conflicts.
For example the default IP Address of Brocade s witches is10.77.77.77.

1. Attach a serial cable between the switch and a Windows host with HyperTerminal software
installed.
2. Open a HyperTerminal session with the following parameters

Bits per second: 9600

Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None

3. Log in as admin, the password is password

4. Type ipAddrSet <enter>

5. Enter the IP information as per the configured sheet provided

6. Verify that the IP settings are correct by typing the command ipAddrShow <enter>

Using Web tools

Once you have defined an IP address you can now manage the switch over the LAN.
Opening a Java Based Internet browser with the switches IP address will allow you into the brocade Web
Tools interface. The following steps will introduce you to the interface - and how to perform most common
tasks.

Switch
The Switch View is a real -time view of switch and port status. The display is updated approximately once
every 15 seconds. From the display you can determine the following:

Fan status
Temperature status
Power supply status
Status and type of each port

The background color of the Fan, Temp, and Power icons indicate the overall status of the fan,
temperature, and power supply as follows:

Green (healthy)
Yellow (marginal)
Red (critical)

Port Status
The Switch View displays port graphics with blinking LEDs, simulating the physical appearance of the ports.
Two LEDs are associated with each port: one of the LEDs indicates port status; the other indicates port
speed. For LED information, refer to the hardware docum entation for the switch you are viewing.
The background color of the port icon indicates the port status, as follows:

Green (healthy)
Yellow (marginal)
Red (critical)

Gray (unmonitored/not licensed)

Blue entirely (buffer -limited)

Holding your mouse over the port icon displays the port number, p ort type, and port status.

Holding your mouse over the LEDs provides details about the port state and port speed.

Detail View
Click the Detail tab to display switch information in tabular format.

In addition to switch information, the Detail page also shows information for the temperature sensors, fans,
power supply, and ports. The Detail page displays:

State and temperature of ea ch temperature sensor

State and speed of each fan
State of each power supply

Scroll down the page to view the port information. The Detail page displays the following for each port:

Port number
Port name
State of the port
Port type
Status (health) of the port
License indication

Setup
Web Tools can be used to perform the following tasks:

Change the switch name

Change the switch time
Change the admin password
Change the zoning configuration type

Devices
Click Devices in the taskbar to display a table of information for all of the connected devices. The entries in
the table are based on the device WWNs, so a single physical device can have more than one entry in the
table.

The Devices page displays the following information:

HBA or a storage device status

Device alias name, if one exists
Vendor name
Device name
WWN of the device port
Switch and port to which the device is connected

The WWN of the device port is a hyperlink that displays additional information about the devic e.

Device Connections
Web Tools EZ allows you to view a graphical representation of the switch and the devices that are
connected to each port. To view the device connections, click Display Connections in the taskbar. A
graphical representation of the s witch and connections is displayed. This is a real -time display; the
connections are automatically updated as you connect and disconnect HBAs and storage. If fixed zoning is
set on the switch, Web Tools EZ validates the connections and displays whether the connections are valid
or invalid.

Name/Alias
Every device has a device name and an alias name. Alias names make it easier to reference the devices.
Alias names are displayed in the device accessibility matrix on the Zoning page.

The following procedure outlines the steps to assign or rename the alias names.
Assigning Device Aliases
1.

Click Name Alias in the taskbar to launch the Define Device Alias wizard.

2.

Double-click in the New Alias column to edit the field.

Zoning
Device accessibility depends on how zoning is set up on the switch. Zoning enables you to partition your
storage area network (SAN) into logical groups of devices that can access each other. The device
accessibility matrix displayed when you click Zoning in the taskbar, indicates which HBAs can access
which storage devices. The dots in the matrix indicate that the HBA and Storage Device in the matrix have
connectivity. If the dot is not in the column and row, the devices are not contained in a zone that would
allow connectivity. The HBA and storage device names displayed in the matrix are the alias names of the
devices.

Validate
The current zoning configuration can validate against the following rules:

Every HBA has access to at least one storage device.

Every storage device is accessible by at least one HBA.
No offline devices exist in the zoning configuration.

To validate the zoning configuration and remove offline devices, click Validate in the taskbar. Follow the
instructions in the wizard. Note any devices that are not zoned properly, and after exiting the wizard, click
Edit to update the device accessibility matrix.

Restore Fixed Zoning

Fixed zoning is a preconfigured default zoning setup set at the factory. It enforces the rule of one HBA port
zoned with one storage port. Fixed zoning is hard zoning; each zone member is identified by the default
switch domain (1) and a port number. Fixed zoning is set up based on fixed port usage, which means that a
set of switch ports is designated to be used as HBA (host ) ports and a set of ports is designated to be used
as storage ports.

Command Line Interface

The Fabric OS command line interface (accessed through either telnet or serial console) provides an
administrator with full management capability of a Brocade switch. The Fabric OS CLI enables an
administrator to monitor and manage entire fabrics, individual switches, and ports from a single workstation.
Detailed information about the Fabric OS CLI and each command can be fo und in the appropriate Fabric
OS Reference Manual based on the version of the OS currently installed on the switch:

Below is a chart detailing common CLI commands:

Fabric Topology

The fabric topology window shows the physical configuration of the fabric including active domains
and paths. The topology is shown as viewed from the host domain

To access this screen, click Fabric Topology from the Fabric View.

Name Server Table

The Name Server Table window displays the Name Server Table for the fabric.
Name Server Table contains name server entries f or the fabric that are kept in the Simple Name

The Name Server Table window is accessed by clicking Name Server Table at the bottom of the
Fabric View.
You can sort the Name Server Table by fields by clicking the appropriate column heading. Auto

Switch Configuration Download and Upload

Switches maintain their configur ation in a file that can be uploaded and downloaded using various methods.
The most common of them is using FTP Server.
Note: FTP server configuration please refer windows administration Documents
