What do I bring to audition?

Since we will not have a piano player at the audition, students should bring
karaoke music or accompaniment music on a CD with them. It should be a song
that he/she has memorized and knows very well. If the song is from the show, we
will have music available.
How do I choose a song?
Audition songs should show you at your best! Criteria for choosing songs
includes: age appropriate material, song in your vocal range, and something you
are comfortable performing. If you are auditioning for a specific role in a show,
you want to choose a song that somehow is similar in character/style of the
material.
**Songs SHOULD BE from MUSICAL THEATER SHOWS and be no longer than
2 min. in length (16 bars.)**

What are directors looking for?

Directors are looking for actors who show confidence, talent and good attitude.
Have fun, smile, and project your voice out! There is nothing to worry about!
When I am singing what should I be thinking about?
Think about who you are in the song. What is the character feeling? How can I
express this to the audience?

Will I be asked to dance at the audition?
At times, depending on the role the directors are considering you for, you may be
asked to dance. Make sure you arrive in shoes or bring shoes with you that are
comfortable to dance in (sneaker or dance shoe).
Will I be asked to read from the script?
At time, depending on the role the director is considering you for, you may be
asked to read from the script. Not all characters and ensemble require this. It is a
good thing to familiarize yourself with all the characters in the script in case you
are asked to read a part you didnt think you wanted to try.

Have fun at an audition and come prepared to show your best!!
