The feeder breakers function is to accept oversize material from the mine at

its maximum rate and break the material into useable size for handling by
continuous means or by loading equipment. The feeder breaker is made up of
four components, hopper, conveyor, breaker and mounting for transporting to
other locations. Hoppers are designed to allow continuous operation from the
mine and feed the feeder breaker continuously, the conveyor or feeder is
designed to feed the breaker continuously at a rate compatible with mine
production. The breaker reduces the mine material to correct size for handling.
The mounting components provide for moving the feeder breaker, crawler for
frequent moves, powered or non- powered, skids for longer term positioning
and permanent locations.
The feeder breaker is a single roll breaker that utilizes the feeder flights and the
floor as a second roll. The feeder breaker because of its construction and
technology fractures the material so to keep the amount of fines to the lowest in
the industry. The feeder breaker only breaks oversize material and allows
undersize to pass and therefore saving energy and wear on the machine. The
combination of the feeder and the breaker combined into one machine gives the
end-user a very versatile and low cost machine for primary crushing

Metrification is a process of redesigning the system from inch standards to metric standards
by taking care of the design intent, Manufacturing needs and by considering the stack-up of
dimensions by considering the raw material availability in local market.
Term Design Intent speaks about taking care of the functionality of the system & without
effecting the overall sizes ( As regulated by MSHAH regulations in USA).
Manufacturing Needs depends on the availability of the raw materials in the local market
or at vendor location( material selection).
As a part of globalisation, the metrification process helps in improving the capabilities of
manufacturing of the products various mining equipments which are used above ground
surface and underground.
Before metrification the production capability is limited to one specific region like USA
products cannot be manufactured at different locations as there standards are limited to
USA.
After metrification production can be done at multiple locations globally, with minor
changes as per the raw-material availability in local market.
This is enable to reduce the lead time and improves the efficiency of the production.

Scope: Metrification of Battery Hauler System in line with MSHA Regulations.


Produce detailed welded Chassis without effecting the mounting of mating assemblies like
the axle, gear boxes, bearings etc
Release of fabrication/machining component drawings and assembly drawings for
production & assembly.
Redesign Considerations:
All imperial fits ie;, Gearbox, Wheel ends (Planetaries), Hydraulic Wheel Motors, Hydraulic
Valves, Bushings & Bearings to be in imperials.
Raw materials as available in local production shop.
Methodology :

Redesigning the system from inch standards to metric standards by taking care of the design
intent, Manufacturing needs and by considering the stack-up of dimensions.

Metricate the imperial Parts/Assemblies/Weldments/Kits and assigning new part numbers in


SAP wherever required.

Selection of equivalent raw material using the raw material list provided by Joy.

Produce welded Chassis frame without effecting the mounting of mating assemblies,
surrounding parts like the axle, gear boxes, bearings etcfor Battery Hauler.

Migration of hardware from imperial to metric based on the availability in Customer,


Standard parts library.

Preparation of Kit Assemblies, fabrication/machining component drawings and assembly


drawings for production & assembly.

All imperial fits ie;, Gearbox, Wheel ends (Planetaries),

Hydraulic Wheel Motors, Hydraulic Valves, Bushings & Bearings to be in imperials.

Raw material sizes should be selected from the available list at Customer location.

Challenges :

Identification of right equivalent raw material.

Understanding the fitments of mating components.

Maintaining the design intent while developing the metric version models/drawings.

Identification of mounting locations of purchased/bought out parts.
