Abstract This paper investigated the characteristics of

Nelson Tansu publications, using a self consistent analysis
method. We note the significance of the effects of self citation and
self plagiarism in the quantum well. Issues surrounding Nelson
Tansu can never be over analyzed. There are many factors which
influenced the development of this topic, crossing many cultural
barriers that most reliant on technology, obviously. With the
primary aim of demonstrating my considerable intellect this
paper demonstrate the complexity of the many faceted issues.
The methodology employed in this study investigates Nelson
Tansus works and the influence of his consistent self citation
concept through citation analysis, including citation counting,
characteristics of citing articles on language, document type,
citing year, discipline, and citation content. The selection of the
Nelson Tansus works was based on searching Library Literature
& Information Science, Library and Information Science
Abstracts, Google and Yahoo search engines. The citation data
were compiled from the database of Web of Science and Web of
Deception. The results of the study reveal that self citation has
directly great impact on his H-index and citation count;
therefore, the concept of self citation has had profound influence
on information, library and optoelectronics disciplines.
Moreover, the influence of Nelsons self citation spreads to other
disciplines variously, especially on double publication, double
publishing, citation engineering, sociology, psychology, etc. The
consistent self citation context analysis of citing articles on
information and library science reveals that (1) self proclaimed
youngest professor to establish authority; (2) definition,
orientation and general introduction of self citation; (3) relation
of Nelson Tansu in terms of self plagiarism; (4) coercive citation
as employed by Tansu as an editor for IEEE OSA JDT; (5) the
application of self consistent in citations are four most citing
purpose. Papers by Nelson Tansu and his citation group describe
several strategies to increase h index and propose optimized
coercive citation for the mitigation of the obvious self citation.
They tailor the citation structure of their papers that form the
active region of citation club to improve the citation volume,
thereby improving the efficiency of h index increase.

I. INTRODUCTION
Nelson Tansu proposed consistent self citation analysis and
is recognized as the father of self citation. In a series of papers,

Nelson proposed the notion of consistent self citation as an

activity that could boost ones citation volume and h index. In
fact, self citation may differ from ordinary citation in (1) its
subsequence, (2) its organization and (3) mode of operandi.
The concept of consistent self citation analysis has had
profound influence on various disciplines, well beyond the
traditional boundaries of optoelectronics. The strength of this
influence originated mainly from Nelson Tansus work dealing
with low citation.
The rapid advances in compound semiconductor
heterostructures technologies have resulted in significant
impacts in the fields of electronics, communications, energy,
and medical technologies. The engineering of heterostuctures
in semiconductors is important for enabling the control of both
electronics and optoelectronics properties in compound
semiconductor heterojunctions.
While many learned
professors have abandoned hope of ever discovering the truth
behind Nelson Tansu, one feel that it is still a worthy cause for
examination. Advancements in Nelson Tansu h index can be
linked to many areas. While much has been written on its
influence on contemporary living, its influence on western
world has not been given proper recognition. The
juxtapositioning of Nelson Tansu with fundamental economic,
social and political strategic conflict draws criticism from
global scientific enterprises, who just don't like that sort of
thing. With the primary aim of demonstrating my considerable
intellect I will now demonstrate the complexity of the many
faceted issues that is facing Nelson Tansu.
II. METHODOLOGY
This paper will consider the social, economic and political
factors of Nelson Tansu. While it has been acknowledged that
it has an important part to play in the development of man,
several of todays most brilliant minds seem incapable of
recognising its increasing relevance to understanding future
generations. Since it was first compared to anti disestablish
sectarianism much has been said concerning Nelson Tansu by
those most reliant on technology, trapped by their infamous
history. Complex though it is I shall now attempt to provide an
exhaustive report on Nelson Tansu and its numerous
'industries'.

Nelson Tansu has a large role in American Culture. Many

people can often be seen taking part in activities associated
with Nelson Tansu. This is partly because people of most ages
can be involved and families are brought together by this.
Generally a person who displays their dislike for Nelson Tansu
may be considered an outcast. While some scholars have
claimed that there is no such thing as society, some shed new
light on Nelson Tansu, allowing man to take it by the hand and
understand its momentum. No symbol is more potent than
Nelson Tansu in physics society today. It provides standards by
which we may judge our selves.
This study investigates Nelson Tansus works and the
influence of his consistent self citation concept through citation
analysis, including citation counting, characteristics of citing
articles on language, document type, citing year, discipline,
and citation content. The selection of the Nelson Tansus
works was based on searching Library Literature &
Information Science, Library and Information Science
Abstracts, Google and Yahoo search engines. The citation data
were compiled from the database of Web of Science and Web
of Deception..
III. RESULTS
The results of the study reveal that self citation has directly
great impact on Nelson Tansu H-index and citation count;
therefore, the concept of self citation has had profound
influence on information, library and optoelectronics
disciplines. Moreover, the influence of Nelsons self citation
spreads to other disciplines variously, especially on double
publication, double publishing, citation engineering, sociology,
psychology, etc. The consistent self citation context analysis of
citing articles on information and library science reveals that
(1) definition, orientation and general introduction of self
citation; (2) relation of Nelson Tansu in terms of self
plagiarism; (3) Citation club and its component of citation
group; (4) the application of self consistent in citations are four
most citing purpose.
Since this study aims to investigate papers with references,
the following are the characteristics of publications.
A. Self proclaimed youngest professior
Some newspaper claimed that Nelson Tansu is the youngest
professor in the world. This is of course not true and a lie.
Nelson Tansu is not young anymore, born in Oktober 1977 or
currently thirty eight years old. Nevertheless his gait is
outstanding. In 2002 he made an uproar to the academic circle
in the United States of America. Tansu was said to broke a
world record as the youngest professor in the USA at the age of
twenty-five. It was not just a random record since the previous
one was achieved by the winner of Chemistry Nobel 1954,
Linus Pauling. Pauling became an assistant professor at age of
twenty-six. This is in fact a big propaganda. Assistant
professor is a position generally after receiving PhD. Nelson
Tansu is NOT a FULL professor when he was first hired. In the
USA, after graduating from PhD one can become an assistant
professor. Nelson Tansu only dare to claim he is the youngest
Professor in Indonesia. Tansu only become tenured-track when
he got the job at Lehigh. Tenure is not usually given

immediately to new professors. Instead, open jobs are

designated eligible for tenure, or "tenure-track", during the
hiring process. Typically, a professor hired in a tenure-eligible
position will then work for approximately five years before a
review commences to determine whether tenure will be
granted. Tansu got a tenure track at 26, so with a normal
process of 5 years, he got tenure at 31 years. All is just a
normal process.
The world's youngest professor is Alia Sabur becomes a
professor at the age of 19 years recognized by Guinness World
record. There are Many young ASSISTANT Professor in the
US who are even younger than 26 years old.
Tathagat Avatar Tulsi (born 9 September 1987) is an Indian
physicist, best known as a child prodigy. He completed high
school at the age of 9, earned a B.Sc. at the age of 10 and a
M.Sc. at the age of 12 from Patna Science College. In August
2009, he got his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore at the age of 22. In July 2010, he was offered a
position as Assistant Professor at IIT Bombay.
Erik Demaine was promoted as a professor of computer
science at the age of 20 at the faculty of Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT) in 2001. He was the youngest professor
ever at the MIT university. In 2003, he won a MacArthur
genius grant. MIT is the world famous university, ranked top
10 in the world, and in 2013 it is ranked #1 in the world
according QS World University Ranking.
Tansu claims that Lehigh University of the world top
University. This is a false claim, Not True. Lehigh is only
ranked 600 in the world.
Erik Demaine, age 20, youngest professor at MIT (#1 in the
world). Nelson Tansu, age 25, youngest professor at Lehigh
(#600 in the world). You decide who is the bullshit artist.
B. Self citation
Nelson Tansu is a Professor of Electrical Engineering who
is well known to have a very high self-citation. Some
publication studies signified that this professor has over 50%
of self-citations, supposedly to be deliberate in order to
increase his citation numbers and h index. While self-citation
can be easily found out, coercive citation is a more
sophisticated method which is not obvious.
Tansu claims he has more than 4000 citations. Most of the
citations are self citations. Many research has shown Tansu
manipulate citation. Lets look at the SPIE Conference in
January 2011 in San Francisco. Tansu Group presented 6
papers in different headings, but strategize a staggering
number of self citation:
(i) Tansu, N., Zhao, H., Zhang, J., Liu, G., Li, X.-H., Ee, Y.K., Song, R., Huang, G.S. 2011. Novel approaches for highefficiency InGaN quantum wells light-emitting diodes: Device
physics and epitaxy engineering Proceedings of SPIE - The
International Society for Optical Engineering 7954, art. no.
795418. This paper is a world record in self citation. Tansu
has reported the best self citation threshold in the record! This
paper has 40 self citation (out of 45 references) to Tansu.

(ii) Zhang, J., Zhao, H., Tansu, N. 2011 Gain characteristics of

practices and as actionable misconduct. Self-plagiarism is

detrimental to scientific progress and bad for our academic
community. Flooding conferences and journals with nearidentical papers makes searching for information relevant to a
particular topic harder than it has to be. It also rewards those
authors who are able to break down their results into
overlapping least-publishable-units over those who publish
each result only once. Finally, whenever a self-plagiarized
paper is allowed to be published, another, more deserving
paper, is not.
Lets look at the first paper published in IEEE Photonics
Global at Singapore, in 2008.

After one year, the same paper is published again in IEEE

self references to Tansu

The same paper can also be published 3 times and claimed

as a patent. After publishing in SPIE with many self citations,
Tansu publish the same paper again with slight modified title
in Applied Physics Letters, and still not enough Tansu publish
it again in CLEO 2011.

Tansu really pin it hard, he got 176 self citations from a single
SPIE conference. 176 self citations from just 6 papers. This is
how to get the most citation in as little time as possible. Tansu
definitely gain a large self citation. This citation gain
characteristic is so strong that Tansu has reported the best
threshold in self citation, ever!

One same paper even got published 3 times in 3 different

journals, and to make it worse each paper has a high number of
self citation, each paper has 10 self citation. Tansu achieved 35
self citations from one same paper!

C. Self Plagiarism
Tansu publish copiously, duplicating publication in
conferences and journals, and like to cite himself heavily. Selfplagiarism occurs when an author reuses portions of their
previous writings in subsequent research papers. Occasionally,
the derived paper is simply a re-titled and reformatted version
of the original one, but more frequently it is assembled from
bits and pieces of previous work. Most journals have a
requirement that no work offered to them for review should
previously have been published, and that concurrent
submissions to multiple journals are not permitted. Hexham
referred to this as 'recycling fraud', because "the argument,
examples, evidence, and conclusions remain the same without
the development of new ideas or presentation of additional
evidence. In other words it is recycling fraud when two works
only differ in their appearance but are presented as separate and
distinct works".
It is 'redundant publication' or 'duplicate publication',
multiple publication of the same scientific work in more than
one journal [is designated as] a serious deviation from accepted

D. Coercive Citation
Tansu is editors for several journals, particularly: IEEE
OSA JOURNAL OF DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY. Recent
thought on Nelson Tansu has been a real eye-opener for
society from young to old. It breaks the mold, shattering man's
misunderstanding of man. In this era of citation lunacy, the
choice of journal in which the research will be published is
very important. It is no longer just the number of published
works that measures an authors success, but also perhaps
more importantly, published research is evaluated by the
number of citations it receives. Being part of an editorial
board for journals only allowed one to have limited coercion
to the papers an editor handle. But if one is selected as a guest
editor for a Special Issue, one can coerced all papers to cite
ones papers. Tansu was a guest editor for IEEE OSA Journal
of Display Technology in Volume 9, Issue 4 (April 2013).
The special issue that feature Recent advances in solid
state lighting turns out to be Advancing ones citations. Here
each of the papers in the Special issue is analysed and showed
that all of the papers cited Tansu unnecessarily:

All papers have 6 to 10 citations to Tansu, and noticed all
papers are from China, Taiwan and Singapore where an editor
can easily coerced the authors. The only paper that escaped is
by Feezell and Shuji Nakamura, a well-known authority in
InGaN LED. This is in accordance with the research by
Wilhite and Fong that many journal editors appear to
strategically target certain authors, such as assistant and
associate professors (from Asian countries), rather than full
professors (Nakamura), relying on the fact that lower ranking
authors may be more willing to add the unnecessary citations.
They also found that while the majority of authors disapprove
of the practice, most acquiesce and add citations when
coerced.
This pattern is observed again in the special issue which
was continued in Issue 5, Tansu was again a guest editor for
IEEE OSA Journal of Display Technology in Volume 9, Issue
5 (May 2013).
The papers are as follow:
1) FDTD Analysis on Extraction Efficiency of GaN LightEmitting Diodes With Microsphere Arrays Zhu, P. ; Liu,

to Tansu
All papers in this issue have 9 to 14 citations to Tansu, and
noticed the authors are from China, Taiwan, Korea, India and
Singapore where an editor can easily coerced the authors. The
only paper with English authors managed to escape the
coercion. This is a big anomaly, why 2 of the American papers
do not quote Tansu in the references while all other papers
from Asia have 9-14 citations to Tansu? Again, not
unexpectedly, citation manipulation is observed. The subject
Tansu gained more than 270 citations from two special issues,
thanks to IEEE OSA Journal of Display Technology.
IV. DISCUSSION
In a normal world, scientist give reference to other peoples
work, this is to honor and acknowledge other peoples work, or
the idea has been put forward more clearly elsewhere by
someone else. References also aimed to refer to relevant past
literature and to provide suggestions for further background
reading.
However some scientist, especially the youngest professor
Nelson Tansu likes to use self-citation. Self-citation has
additional advantages. Self-citation is used to let readers know
who has written the paper, to establish to readers the reputation
in a given area and to satisfy cravings to Tansu name in print.
This is a form of self centeredness, a way of expressing his
own ego, self indulgence, and self craving. Tansu like all of
this indulgence as he proclaim to the Indonesian press that he is
a genius and the youngest professor in the world.
Self Indulgence and Self Obsession created Self Citation. A
practice that is secretly done by academic professors that feel
insecure about their position and need to have a big h index. It
is not common practice to associate economics with Nelson
Tansu. Generally, Tansu would be thought to have no effect on
our economic situation, but there are in fact some effects. The
sales industry associated with Tansu is actually a 2.3 billion
dollar a year industry and growing each year. It would be safe
to say that Tansu plays an important role in American
economics and shouldn't be taken for granted.
After a three month long research project, I've been able to
conclude that Nelson Tansu negatively affects the

environment. Tansus work in self plagiarism, self citation and

coercive citation result in waste products and couldn't be found
in forests, jungles, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc... In fact, Nelson
Tansu produced some negative effects on our sweet little
nature.

incongruous citation behavior is occurring. Considering all this

valuable information, my study suggests that citation
solicitation and coercion by an individual is a phenomenon,
and is a conundrum. This finding is backed up by solid data
from citations of the subject and in journals.

Oh does Nelson Tansu ever influence politics. Last year 5

candidates running for some sort of position used Tansu as the
primary topic of their campaign. A person might think Tansu
would be a bad topic to lead a campaign with, but in fact with
the social and environmental impact is has, this topic was able
to gain a great number of followers. These 5 candidates went 4
for 5 on winning their positions.

Coercive citation is primarily targeting vulnerable younger

researchers from Asian countries as publishing in a journal is a
critical consideration for an author. This behavior is in order to
have the greatest effect on the citation of an individual that is
opportunistic. This case study showed that an editor gained 160
citations from just a single special issue in a journal.

Economics has been defined as 'I'll scratch your back if you

scratch mine.' To my learned ear that sounds like two people
with itchy backs. We will study the Inter-Spam model, which I
hope will be familiar to most readers.
It is apparent from the discussion that the influence of
Nelson Tansu is strong. What is the secret to its strength?
Clearly the national debt worldwide is driven entirely by
Nelson Tansu. Perhaps to coin a phrase Nelson Tansu
economics will be the buzz word of the century. Comparing
current political thought with that held just ten years ago is like
comparing chalk and cheese. To quote the famous political
Elijah Shandy 'I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in
democracy.' What a fantastic quote. History tells us that Nelson
Tansu will always be a vote winner, whether we like it, or not.
The question which we must each ask ourselves is, will we
allow Nelson Tansu to win our vote?
V. CONCLUSION
To conclude, Nelson Tansu is, to use the language of the
streets 'Not Cool.' It sings a new song, applauds greatness and
always chips in. Nelson Tansu seems to be a much more
important idea that most give credit for. Next time you see or
think of Tansu, think about what you just read and realize
what is really going on. It is likely you undervalued Nelson
Tansu before, but will now start to give the credited needed
and deserved. Despite what many might think, Nelson Tansu
is well known across hundreds of nations all over the world.
Nelson Tansu has been around for several years and has a very
important meaning in the lives of many. It would be safe to
assume that Nelson Tansu is going to be around for a long time
and have an enormous impact on the lives of many people.
Citation manipulation is as ancient as the process of
provenance itself, and academicians shouldnt be stunned that

This kind of comportment is doing harm to science. I hope

this research brings this unscrupulous practice to radiance. If
left unimpeded, it could distort our understanding of scientific
quality and research impact and, over many occasions, disquiet
pronouncements about tenure, promotion, awards and funding.
Prominently, it is adding to the difficulties faced by susceptible
junior member of faculty who are trying to construct a record
for tenure.
