Centrifugation is one of the most important and widely applied research techniques in
biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, and in medicine. Current research and clinical
applications rely on isolation of cells, subcellular organelles, and macromolecules, often in high
yields.

A centrifuge uses centrifugal force (g-force) to isolate suspended particles from their
surrounding medium on either a batch or a continuous-flow basis. Applications for centrifugation
are many and may include sedimentation of cells and viruses, separation of subcellular
organelles, and isolation of macromolecules such as DNA, RNA, proteins, or lipids.

Electric centrifugal machine has features of artistic shape, large capacity, small volume
and complete function. It has such advantages as stable performance, adjustable speed and
automatic adjustment and balance, lower temperature, high use efficiency and extensive
applicability. This product applies into the qualitative analysis of blood serum, blood plasma and
carbide for medical product, blood station, and clinic test as well as biochemical lab.

As the researchers want to make a mechanical centrifugal machine out of bicycle pedals,
research with regard to bicycle pedals is a must. A bicycle pedal is the part of a bicycle that the
rider pushes with their foot to propel the bicycle. Pedals usually consist of a spindle that threads
into the end of the crank and a body, on which the foot rests or is attached, that is free to rotate
on bearings with respect to the spindle. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_pedal) Bike pedals
are attached to the crankarms. (http://bicycling.about.com/od/howtoride/g/pedals.htm)
