Who We Are

About Us

The Department of Systems

Engineering and Engineering
Management

We are a team of systems engineers

interested in making an impact in the
medical field by incorporating systems
engineering principals into the healthcare
industry. We hope to accomplish this by
advising potential employers on the benefits
of hiring systems engineers and increasing
the number of systems engineers hired by
healthcare companies in the region

Where are we located and what do we study

Since the fall of 2000, UNC CHARLOTTE

has offered a graduate level course in
Engineering Management
The Bachelor program in Systems
Engineering began at UNC CHARLOTTE
in the fall of 2008
The department is based largely in
Cameron Hall with other courses being
taught in Smith Hall
Students are progressively introduced
to more sophisticated methods of
systems improvement as they progress
in their academia

What is currently being done

Many groups, both professional and academic,
understand the necessity of an engineering
mindset in the healthcare industry. Schools all
over the country currently offer a variety of
courses specializing in healthcare systems.
Schools like Georgia Tech and Emory
University have partnered in order to further
research into the field and the Mayo clinic is
currently offering a healthcare systems
program as part of its curriculum.

Engineering mindset in the healthcare

field
In recent times, healthcare has come to the
forefront of public discussion in America. As
the demand for thorough medical coverage
grows, costs continue to climb and people seek
ways to make medicine more accessible
through a variety of ways. These include
government involvement and, more recently, a
focus on efficiency. Systems engineers are
ideally prepared for this type of challenge
because their studies encompass a variety of
fields ranging from production and logistics to
economic analysis and management.
