METALLOGRAPHY
Metallographic sections were taken from the components, polished and acid
etched to reveal the microstructures, and then examined using optical microscopy
at magnifications up to x1000. Metal temperature estimates were evaluated by
comparing the time/temperature controlled changes in the microstructure to
standard laboratory time/temperature structures.

HARDNESS RESULTS
Polished metallographic sections were evaluated using a Vickers hardness test

NOTE
The residual life is primarily an estimate of creep and corrosion life and is dependent on the duty to
which the blade has been subject. The life estimate assumes that the blades will continue to operate
under similar conditions (such as engine load, fuel quality etc). No estimate is made of the residual
fatigue life.
The accuracy of the life estimate is also dependent upon the accuracy of the information supplied at
the time of assessment (e.g. operating hours, engine power rating/duty)
