Case 2

Teachers guidance helps pupils facing with difficulties in writing composition

INTRODUCTION
Writing is a method of representing language in visual or tactile form. Writing systems
use sets of symbols to represent the sounds of speech, and may also have symbols for such
things as punctuation and numerals.

CONTEXT
Currently I am teaching in Sk.Tampasak, Kinarut, Papar. For this task, I choose my Year
5 class which is consist 18 pupils. The reason I choose them is because they have some
problem writing basic skills. They are not good in writing composition and this can be a problem
for them to answer the examination question in Paper two. So, I need to think a way how to
overcome this problem even though it is hard for them because most of them are very poor in
English subject.
DILEMMA
Difficulties in writing simple sentence correctly.
Pupils always think that writing a composition is a hard and big task for them. Some of
them

SOLUTION
I am using the SVO terms. SVO is easy way to make a simple sentence. S represents
Subject, V is a Verb and O is the object. A simple sentence can be made when these three
items are putting together to form a simple and short sentence.

RESPONSE BY NANCY BINTI MOIDOL@MAIDOL

I agree that teacher plays a crucial role in guiding the pupils to overcome any problem in their
writing. I also using and apply the Scaffholding approach theorized by Lev Vygotsky during
my teaching and learning in the class.
