1.1 Concept of RP3-blocking SW
TheRP3-blockingsoftwareisanon-standardWCDMAorLTEbuild.TheSWdisablesall
theexternalRP3-01links,sotheSystemModule(SM)doesnotdetectanyRFModules
(RFMs),RemoteRadioHeads(RRHs),AntennaLineDevices(ALDs),northeother
technology'sSM.
TheSWisdesignedtopreparethesiteforRFSharingwhentheuserhas,forexample,
nolegallicensetotransmitontheaddedtechnology'sbands.ItpreventsthenewSM
fromautomaticallydetectingtheconnectedmodulesandtakingovertheSyncandRadio
Masterroles.RFSharingisactivatedlater,remotely.
TheSWallowsfortransmissioncommissioning,whichenablesaremoteconnection.
Theautoconnectionfeaturecanbeusedthen.

Therearetwowaysofdeployingtwotechnologiesatonesitewithsharedresources:RF
SharingandRXdiversitysharing(alsocalledantennasharing).Themaindifferenceis
thatinRFSharingthetechnologiesworkinMaster-Slavemodeandthesame
RFMs/RRHsareusedbybothtechnologies,whileinRXdiversitysharingboth
technologiesaretransmittingindependently,usingdedicatedRFMs.Figure2:Main

2.1 Installing a new RF Sharing site


Purpose
ThepurposeofthisscenarioistoprepareanewRFSharingsite.Bothtechnologies'HW
isinstalledandactivatedlocallyduringthesitevisit.Afterthesitevisitbothtechnologies
areonair.
Ensurethatyouhavealltherespectiveinstructionstopreparethedesiredsite.

Before the site visit

Prepare the configurations, depending on which technologies are used:


a) For GSM: create the site on BSC.
b) For WCDMA: create the site on RNC.
Optional:PrepareSiteConfigurationFiles(SCFs)forbothtechnologiestosavethe
sitevisitingtime.

Install the correct GSM/WCDMA/LTE BTS Site Manager version on your


computer(s).
IncaseofRFSharingwithWCDMA,ensureyouhavealltherequiredlicenses
downloadedonyourcomputer.

Itisrecommendedthatyouhavetwocomputers,whichallowssimultaneous
connectiontobothtechnologies'SiteManagers.

Check the supported SW for both technologies in RF Sharing Compatibility


Matrix.

Optional: Update the SMs' SW.


ItisrecommendedthatyouupdatethenewSMs'SWbeforethesitevisit(ifpossible)
toreducethesitevisittime.

Install the HW, do the cabling, and connect to SMs via Local Management Ports
(LMPs).
ToconnectthemodulesforRFSharingconfigurations,seetheappropriateCreating
RFSharingConfigurations(WCDMA-GSM,LTE-GSM,orWCDMA-LTE).
Fordetails,seetherespectiveInstallingandCablingFlexiMultiradiodocumentation.
EnsurethattheRFM/RRHhasthesameSFPtypeastheSM-3Gbpsor6Gbps.In
caseofLTE,alwaysuse6GbpsSFPsandopticallinks,whensupportedbytheused
HW.

Power up the Master technology SM (WCDMA or LTE) and ensure all the
RFMs/RRHs and ALDs are detected and shown properly.
FSMFisdeliveredwithfactoryLTESW.WCDMASiteManagerdoesnot
detectanyRFMs/RRHsandALDsuntiltheSMisupdatedwithWCDMA
SW.Fortheupdateprocedureinstructions,seetheDeliveryNote,provided
intheHWdeliverybox.

If not done before, update the SM SW to the desired version.


IfIncompatibleSWversiondetected(0023)alarmisraised,updatetheSWagain.
Result
TheHWisnowreadyforcommissioning.

Commission the Master technology for RF Sharing.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the Slave technology.

10 Commission the Slave technology for RF Sharing.

RFSharingConfigurations(WCDMA-GSM,LTE-GSM,orWCDMA-LTE).

transmissionsettingsandcanbeusedasaback-up.
TocommissionGSM,fetchtheSCFfromtheMastertechnology'sBTSanduseitas
atemplateinHardwareConfiguration.

2.3 Adding RF Sharing with RP3-blocking SW case 1


Case 1:TheGSMsiteisalreadyactive.WCDMAorLTEisnowaddedasaMaster
technology.
Purpose
ThepurposeofthisscenarioistoaddRFSharingwithRP3-blockingSWtothesite.The
WCDMAorLTEHWisinstalled,RFSharingissetlocally,andtheRP3-blockingSWis
downloadedduringthesitevisit.Afterthesitevisitthenewtechnologyisoffair.GSMis
transmittingindedicatedmodewithfullpowerandfrequencybudgets.RFSharingis
activatedlater,remotely.
Ensurethatyouhavealltherespectiveinstructionstopreparethedesiredsite.
Use case
Thecaseisdeployed,forexample,whentheuserhasnotyetgotalegallicenseto
transmitonWCDMAorLTEband.ThescenarioisadoptedwhenthereisnoWCDMAor
LTEtransmissionindedicatedmodeduetoRP3-blockingSW.FordetailsonRP3blockingSW,seeConceptofRP3-blockingSW.

sotheyarebothshiftedsimultaneously.

Calculating GSM frequencies


Inatypicalscenario,aGSM-dedicatedBTSalreadyexistsonasite.WCDMAorLTE,
withpredefinedcarrierfrequencies,isbroughttothesamesiteandexistingantenna
linesareusedforbothtechnologieswithRxdiversitysharing.TheGSMTRX
frequenciesareusuallychangedtoaccommodatetheWCDMA/LTEcarriersinthesame
band.ThustheavailableGSMARFCNshavetobecalculated.
Example:calculatingavailableARFCNs,whenFXDARFModule(20MHzRxfilterpass
bandBW)isusedandtheWCDMAuplink(Rx)centerfrequencyissetto905MHz.
