Nuclear Power- Harnessing of nuclear stockpile for power generation purposes.

Key Thesis- The threats of generating nuclear power by possessing nuclear
stockpile for any country is greater than doing without one.
TS1: Nuclear power plants are harmful towards the citizens of a country living
around them.
1) Nuclear power plants poses a danger towards citizens living in these
countries
-Possibility of Power Plant accident where chemicals are released from
nuclear accidents.
-Citizens living within the radius of these nuclear power plants tend to
have increased exposure towards nuclear chemicals, having the potential
to contract illness as a result of prolonged exposure towards nuclear
chemicals.
-Space constraint. Countries with some countries would mean that other
amenities or buildings be given up so as to give way or create space for
nuclear power plants to be built.
2) Terrorism
-Vulnerability of the specific locality within the country. Nuclear power
plants as a potential weak-spot and target for terrorist groups trying to attack a
country.

Environmental Issues

- Waste from these Nuclear Power Plants risk from being not disposed off
properly resulting in long term environmental damage.
- Accidents related to Nuclear Power Plants are also a potential cause of
environmental damage.
TS2: Nuclear power generation would require that countries are in possession of
nuclear stockpiles, which poses a huge threat as well when mishandled and
mismanaged.

Political misuse

-Country which possesses nuclear stockpile may choose to abuse such a

privilege and develop WMD-Weapons of Mass Destruction instead. Big Brother
Theory- Harnessing nuclear
stockpile into WMD and
threatening other countries with it.
- Sale of nuclear stockpile to other nations which further complicates issues of
national security (other nations may not have similar plans to use nuclear
stockpile for power generation purposes, might instead develop WMD as well.)
-Lack of international body to oversee how nuclear power is being developed
could lead to world armament of nuclear weapons.
3)

Terrorism

- WMD ends up in the wrong hands. Terror groups use these nuclear WMD to
further advance their own purposes.
TS3: The economic benefits brought about by Nuclear Power Plants for a country
are minimal when compared to the economic damages brought about by Nuclear
Plant accidents.
-Economic benefits by Nuclear Power Plants in the form of lower energy costs are
minute when compared to the estimated costs of Nuclear Plants Accidents which
includes the loss of human lives, environmental damages, long term negative
economic impacts, costs of clean-up.
