1 Introduction
Certain types of production status information can be scanned from barcodes either via reports produced by
CMPIC or from pre-printed barcode data sheets. This document shows where this data may be printed from
and how it can be used to update CMPIC. Please note this functionality is only available to customers with a
barcode scanning licence issued for CMPIC.

At the start of each scanning session the Project ID, Vessel and Engineer are defined. This information must be
valid for the records to be imported into CMPIC. For the Engineer to be recognised in CMPIC his 4 digit code
must be defined in CMPIC reference data under the CLOCKNO code.
All the records will be processed in strict timestamp order and any identical records which only differ in their
Engineer, Scanner ID or length values will retain the latest and discard earlier records.
Because scanned records cover a range of activities, it is conceivable that validation of scanned data will not be
performed by a single function. Therefore a method is required to filter records for processing data, which has
originated from a scanner or group of scanners. In this way if for example Stores are issued with two
scanners to record cutting of cables, these scanners will be allocated to a group and data presented in the
import utility for validation will be restricted to that downloaded from the groups (Stores) scanners.
Scanner Groups can be identified by the first digit of the scanner ID. Group 1 scanners will all be given a 3
digit ID which begins with 1, Group 2 scanners will have an ID which starts with 2 etc.

As the data varies depending on whether it applies to Cable, Device or Stage/Work Package, each has a
separate tab page.
If the screen has been called with Vessel and/or Scanner Group parameters only records matching this criteria
will be uploaded.
As part of the upload process records will be validated and a message shown in the right-hand column if the
records are invalid for any reason. The button on the left-hand side will light up Green if the record is valid and
ready for processing, Yellow if the record is invalid but manual update of the offending data is allowable or Red
if the record is invalid and must be discarded.

Termination
Device is cancelled
Cable is already fully terminated at the end connected to Device
Cable connected to Device has not reached TSP status
Cable connected to Device is cancelled
Cable connected to Device is set to stop work
Cable connected to Device is under review (unless route change only)
Cable connected to Device requires new Pull Sheet
option to override these validation failures will be given when re-running validation.
In addition to the specific checks above all data passed must be valid i.e. Cable/Device ID must exist on the
project and vessels must be applicable etc.
3.2.1
Cables Tab
The Surplus lengths scanned in can be manually updated for Cable Surplus and Cable Termination records
providing the value has not already been recorded at the cable end specified.
The Resistance scanned in can be manually updated for Checkwire records providing a valid value is entered
or selected from LOV.
Record Type
Processing
Checkwire
Provided the cable is fully terminated, its status is updated to CCW. If the
resistance range for all cores is also passed the resistance range is
updated for all cores, which do not already have a value.

Cable Installation
Fully pulled cables will have their status set to IFP, pulled length set to cut
length and a corresponding Pull History record created.
Cable Surplus
The surplus length passed will overwrite any existing value recorded as
surplus length for the end identified.
Device CIC
First make sure IDFIT and IDCOMP status codes have been entered and
add them if not. Then set Device status to CIC.
Cable
Termination
Set the cable status to fully terminated at the appropriate end or fully
terminated for both ends if the other end is already fully terminated. Any
surplus lengths passed will overwrite existing values recorded for the end
identified.
Cable Cutting
Set the cable date cut and cut attributes for all cables on the Line and
Cutting Schedule identified. Cables which have been cancelled, removed
from the Stage/Work Package or which no longer have a drum assigned
are excluded.
