How to install a Siemens MC35T under windows XP for a

GPRS Connection.

1.

Follow the quick start instructions for how to set the MC35T up on your computer.

With the MC35T connected directly to your PC via a 9-way serial port (not a USB to
serial adaptor) go to Control panel and go to Phone and modem options

3. Click on the modem tab along the top of the dialog box and click on Add

On the next box that appears be sure to click the Dont detect my modem; I will
select it from a list and click Next.

When the Install New Modem screen appears, pick standard modem types on the
left and select Standard 19200bps Modem from the menu on the right.. Click Next

On the next screen be sure to select the correct com port the MC35T is to be installed
on by highlighting it and click Next

The next box should confirm that the modem has been installed.

Follow the instructions for changing the properties of the modem by going back to
phone and modem options in control panel.

Click on properties to bring up the configuration screen.

10. Go through each of the tabs along the top and make sure your modem is configured
correctly.

11. Ensure you put the correct APN for your GPRS network provider in this box.. the
Generic command is AT+CGDCONT=1,IP, <APN> The APN in this case it is
Internet as I am using a Vodafone connection.

12. Your MC35T is now set-up correctly under windows. The next stage is to configure
Dial up Networking for your GPRS connection.
13. Go to Network Connections in Control panel and double click

14. Click on New Connection Wizard

15. Just click Next on the first screen, on the Network Connection Type screen select
Connect to the Internet

16. On the next screen select Set up my Connection manually and click next.

17. On the next box, select Connect using a dial-up modem and click Next

18. On the Select a Device box, make sure you choose the Standard 19200 bps
modem and click Next

Type in the name of the ISP .. You can call it anything you like Click Next

20. In the next box, put the phone number for your GPRS connection.. the standard
number is *99***1#

21. On the next screen you can make your own mind up about who has access to the
connection. And click Next.
22. On the Internet Account Information screen make sure you put the correct
username and password as supplied by your GPRS provider. The username and
password I have used is for Vodafone GPRS. It is also recommended to disable the
windows XP firewall. Click Next

23. The last screen is just to confirm your settings, if you are happy with them click
Finish

24. You are now ready to surf the web using GPRS. If there are any problems with
getting a dial out working, please make sure.
A. Your SIM card is enabled for INTERNET GPRS services. Not WAP.
B. Your other windows settings for Internet explorer are correct.
C. You do not have another modem inside the computer that is being used.
GPRS commands will not work on a standard PC modem!
