STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
After a thorough evaluation of my interest, aptitude, academic background and professional
ambition, I have decided to build my career in research in electrical engineering. Basically, my aim is
to go to academics where I can get a platform to do research on smart grid technology in power
transmission as well as distribution system. A doctoral programme is a step towards my long term
career goal of being actively involved with research & teaching in the area of my interest.
I have done B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering .During B.tech, at the end of fourth
semester, I have done industrial training of two months in power grid corporation of India Limited.
The objective of the training was to learn about the transmission system in India. . During the final
semester of B.Tech, I made a project on prototype of hybrid electric vehicle with speedometer
which was run by electricity generated from solar, wind and chemical energy sources. The objective
of the project was to build up such a vehicle which can run using renewable energy and thus causing
our environment clean and saving of conventional resources.
After B.Tech I have joined Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd, an
Electricity distribution company operated by Govt. Of Madhya Pradesh. I am currently working here
as an Assistant Engineer. Working here, provided me a great exposure to energy sector and the
general public of the places where I was posted. Here I learned how energy sector plays an
important role in general publics life and what they actually expect from this sector. Moreover,it
was also learnt that government and organisation want from this sector. Technical work in the
company also sharpened my technical skills. The time limitation on various assignments taught me
to plan well, work systematically and keep me up to date. At the same time dealing with general
public and the system have taught me to think deliberately taking concerns of all stakeholders in
account.
Till my matriculation I was grown up at Golakganj , a small town in Assam where the supply of
electricity was very poor. That situation inspired me to do so something in this field. For the same
reason I opted for Electrical and electronics engineering as the subject of my B.Tech. And after
joining an electricity distribution company, it again inspired me to do the same this sector. That is
why I have chosen electrical engineering or system and control engineering or energy science and
engineering as the area of my doctoral programme. All of the area mentioned cover my area of
interest.
A good research career can only be built above the firm foundation of a good education. I would
consider it my privilege to be able to pursue my doctoral studies at IITB & avail the excellent
academic infrastructure it offers. I believe rigorous and world class training by the well- known
faculty drawn from among the best minds in the world IITB will prove immensely fruitful and
facilitate my development as an individual researcher to excel in my area. I feel that IITB is the
perfect place and a golden opportunity for a budding researcher like me.
I am aware of the hard work, perseverance and the need of very high level of academic commitment
required to pursue doctoral study. I believe that my enthusiasm will enable me to meet the
expectations and my academic background will help me to measure up to the rigors of doctoral
study.
