Hi, Greetings from Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), Pune !! During my 14 years of journey in the field of Training & Placement, I learned from many
industry professionals that there are certain gaps in expectations of industry and actual quality of fresh engineers. Through my experience and through feedback of some
experts, I tried to find out some activities which students can undergo during 4 years of graduation to improve their employability. I do not know upto what extent this 100
Point Activity Chart can help the students or institutes to improve Employability?? This is just a sincere attempt to find out solutions to improve the employability of
engineering graduates. I will be thankful to you if you can give your feedback or suggestions to improve this activity chart. Best Regards, Prof. Shitalkumar Rawandale

Notes :
From First Year, Students should maintain at least 60% in each semester (without backlogs) or minimum % in respective
1
University required for appearing in recruitment drives of companies in Final year. Eligibility % of companies for each
University may be different for various universities. Some companies may keep criteria of 70% etc. (Some students wake
up late & think about Aggregate % before start of placement season ).
Focus should always be on Project based Learning. Each student must do one project in each year (even though not in
2
syllabus) or if possible Small Project can be done in each semester.
Students should always do practicals very seriously & when theory is learned, immediately practicals on that topic should
3
be done. Its actual applications should be thought & worked upon (Always keep in mind that Theory is important but
Practical is Most omportant).
4
As a Syllabus Project, students should work on actual problems of industry. Those wtudents who will outsource this
Project Work will never be successful in their engineering career.
For admissions in Foreign Universities, students can earn more points by publishing research papers in IEEE or high
5
impact factor journals. Experience of couple of years also helps in securing admission.
Students & faculty should take some Project work from industry & solve their actual problems.

Websites mentioned in the following Link can be used by Students & faculty :

I recommend that each student must appear for both the exams : 1)GATE - which helps to go through entire engineering
syllabus & understand/rebrush the concepts before starting career 2)CAT/GRE- the students who seriously prepare &
appear for CAT/GRE find it very easy to crack the Aptitude of any company.
Programming concepts and language like C/C++ is necessary for all branch students. Each Computer/IT student should
practice more and more actual programs & should develop at least 2-3 small softwares/ mobile applications.

I would also like to suggest that instead of conducting 50 to 60 hours theory sessions for any subject as per syllabus, the
teacher can teach for around 40 to 45 hours using IIT method of mix of conventional Theory Lectures and then asking the
students to prepare few topics on their own and take some actual case studies or Application based projects in lectures.
Some sessions (15 to 20 sessions) should be utilized to solve some practical problems of industry which will be identified
by faculty / students by visiting the industry. This activity if taken seriously, can help a lot to make the engineers as
problem solvers in its true sense.
Autonomous institutes can also have one entire semester Compulsory Industry Internship by reducing the 8 semesters
theory in 7 semesters.
There must be scope for Interdisciplinary learning across various branches.
Every day half an hour should be used for Physical activities like (15 Suryanamaskars, 15 Push-ups, 15 Pull-ups) or Games etc. Brfore starting
the lectures, National Song or Vande Mataram should be recited or played. If possible, engineering colleges should be residential so that in the
evening also some sessions/activities can be conducted.
