Interview questions
Tell me about yourself?
Hello, I am Nasir Memudu majoring in Electrical Engineering with a minor in
Engineering Leadership, graduating fall 2013 at the University of Maryland.
Over the past 3 years in college, I have been successful at developing technical skills in
computer programming as well as laying the foundation of becoming an excellent leader
working with a diverse group of people. In order to achieve this, I strive to take on new
challenges as an engineer and to exceed expectations.

I am currently seeking a summer internship where I can bring my skills to the table to
improve productivity. With personal drive and commitment, I am confident that I can
make a difference.
What are your Strengths?
Ive been told that I have excellent leadership skills and pay good attention to detail Im
also not the type of person things likes to leave task uncompleted by the end of the day. I
also believe that I have good communication skills in dealing with not only my peers but
also with my managers.
Why do you believe those are your strengths?
For example, recently of Fall 2011, I was Team Captain for a hovercraft design project in
one of my classes. Here, I was able to conduct weekly evaluation of self and team
performance in order to keep up with each milestone required of us. Members of the
group said that this really helped to keep the team motivated and calm.
What are your weaknesses?
There are times when I make up my mind very quickly. But I have learned that speed is
not always appropriate so I always remind myself that I may need to collect more
information. Nowadays, if I am at all uncertain about a decision, I will seek input from
colleagues.
What motivates you?
I like to have good work recognized by my boss, peers, or clients. Another motivating
factor is the thought of helping PNC pursuit its goals, which for one would be to
continue their success and make it easy for clients to achieve their
goals, both big and small.
What are your biggest achievements? Or what are you most proud of?
One of my biggest achievements was transitioning from Morgan State University
(HBCU) to University of Maryland College Park. Although both school are less than an
hour away, they each have their own set of standards and values. Transfer students were
not allowed to stay on campus the first semester and I commute from home so it was hard
to adjust. Initially, I struggled to adapt to being in large classrooms where there is
minimal interaction between professor and student. I also found myself shy connecting
with a diverse group of people (people from Asia, Brazil, Other parts of Africa) who were
not a lot at my old school. Through hard work and determination, I broke through that
barrier and have been able to communicate effectively with everyone I meet. I felt that
this was a big achievement moving from a smaller university of about 6,000 people to a
university of about 40,000 students.
Why should we hire you?
system
analysis, database concepts structures, the ability to exercise sound judgment in
You should hire me because not only do I have great interest in learning about

the workplace, Im also reliable, able to stay extra hours to get tasks done, and an effective
communicator.

Would you say that youre reliable?

Yes, I would say that Im reliable. I am happy to do overtime at Intelsat if we are falling
behind schedule. I also ask my fellow colleagues for help if Im confused about the
certain tasks given to me.
Whats your absenteeism/sickness record like?
I have a really good absenteeism record I have only been sick twice this year.
How would you describe your time management skills?
I like to get the most important and urgent tasks done. This way I am able to allocate
enough time getting the most important stuff done first and also to minimize errors.
Are you an organized person?
Yes, I like to make sure that things are done in an organized matter. Having things in an
organized manner retains success. It makes things comfortable not only for me but for
others.
Would you say youre good with detail?
Yes I am good with detail. It is very important to be good with detail such as in my digital
circuits lab in order to prevent harm or damage to those around me. I also am very careful
at completing tasks given to me at my job.
How do you respond to change?
There are times at my job when there are only 2 of us at the desk. During those times, I
always try to ensure that helpdesk remained manned at all times even if I have to work an
extra hour or two otherwise students or staff who come in might come into some
problems.
How would you rate yourself as . . .?
I would rate myself as an 8/10. Theres always more to learn.

How do you cope with Job stress?

I cope with stress by socializing with friends or colleagues, taking a bath, or taking a
good nap.
Tell me something interesting about yourself?
During my spare time, I love to play competitive soccer. My favorite soccer player is
Lionel Messi.
What would your Boss say about you?
My boss would say I like to complete tasks given to me, exercise good communication
skills, and am able to get along with people.
What would your colleagues say about you?

My colleagues tend to see me as the person that they can come and talk to when theyre
feeling down. They would also say that Im reliable and try to complete tasks on time.
Do you prefer to work on your own or in a team?
I can work on my own, but I like working in a fast-paced team. I like having people
around me constantly where different ideas are being shared. This makes work more
effective and fun.
We all have a team role what would you say your role tends to be?
Im incredibly flexible when it comes to working in teams. By constantly shifting roles
on different projects, I get a lot of variety. And this is one of the features that attract me to
this role with you.
We need someone who is tactful and diplomatic how does that profile fit you?
Im very diplomatic because I understand that speaking your
mind may not always be the best course of action. Sometimes you need to think about the
right time and place to make certain comments. For instance, when you want to criticize
someone, I think you should always do it one-to-one and in private rather than openly, in
front of other people.
How do you take personal criticism?
I take criticism as a sign to improve on my work in order to better help the company. I
think about how I can improve my performance and I ask questions over and over about
where I went wrong and how to adjust.
What do you know about our company?
I know that Intelsat operates the worlds largest fixed satellite services (FSS) business,
providing a critical layer in the global communications infrastructure. The company
operates more satellites in orbit, have more satellite under contract, and serve more
commercial customers in more countries than any other commercial satellite operator.
Also Intelsat is the leading provider of satellite services worldwide.
How much do you know about this position?
1.Support satellite communications In-Orbit Tests for Intelsat satellites.
2.Assist satellite communication engineers to plan and execute tests of satellites.
I also know that as a payload engineer, I will be required to perform other types of duties
and tasks helping satellite engineers.
What is it that attracts you to our company?
The company's strategy is to be a global leader connecting people and businesses around
the world with high-quality and flexible communications services. I read on your website
that Intelsat is a leading provider of satellite communications services worldwide,
supplying video, data and voice connectivity in approximately 200 countries and
territories.
What do you think you can bring to the team?

What I can bring to the team is my passion to learn about new things and work very hard
towards achieving great result with whomever I work with. By the end of the internship, I
plan to have great knowledge about satellites.
Tell me about a significant project that you managed?
During the fall semester of 2011, I was team captain for a hovercraft design project in one
of my classes called Intro to Engineering Design. Initially, we did not have a team leader
because each team member had some kind of knowledge or understanding of each area of
the hovercraft, which includes; (programming, construction, electronics, writing). I was
chosen as team captain because I was always punctual to class and willing to call
everyone together for meetings. I made sure to coordinate weekly meetings in order for
the group as a whole to be updated about each team members progress. Before each
milestone, we were required to give a presentation to a panel of judges about what our
hovercraft specifications were, type of fans and batteries we used as well as sensors
(distance sensor which senses the payload one it has been acquired by Velcro attached to
the wing), (compass sensor which allowed for navigation of the hovercraft.).
Give me an example of a difficult decision that you have made?
There was a time in one of my classes when I worked with a teammate who was very
arrogant and selfish. She was indeed a hard worker but lacked the right social skills to
work effectively with a partner. We were to conduct a lab that required building single
stage and multistage amplifiers. She did not want me to touch the circuit she created nor
check whether it was wrong or right. Unfortunately, one of the transistors blew out and
she blamed me for not following what she was doing. It was very hard to follow what she
did because there was no communication between the both of us. But as an engineer who
will experience various types of challenges that lies ahead, I decided to find a solution by
asking her what she doesnt understand about the circuit and we eventually came into
agreement.
