The Department of Teaching and Learning is seeking elementary language arts teachers and reading
specialists to participate on a Language Arts Curriculum Design Team. The purpose of the team will be to
review current division literacy documents and resources, discuss the current format of the language arts
curriculum, and develop a language arts curriculum design that will be utilized by Teaching and Learning
staff as language arts curriculum is updated and revised.
The Language Arts Curriculum Design Team meetings will occur on February 25 and 26, 2015 , at the
Tidewater Community College Joint Use Library and on February 27, 2015 , in the School Plant Training
Room. All meetings will be held from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The cost of substitutes will be funded by the
Department of Teaching and Learning.
Please share this information with language arts teachers and reading specialists in your building who may
be interested in applying for the Language Arts Curriculum Design Team. The application is attached for
your reference and can be accessed on SharePoint under Teaching and Learning/Elementary Curriculum/
grade level/Language Arts. The responsibilities of selected participants are listed on the application. As part
of the application process, please note that principals are required to provide a recommendation.

Language arts teachers must be currently teaching and have taught in the past year.

with division teachers and central office language arts specialists to develop language arts curriculum design
proposals in order to better meet the curricular needs of elementary language arts teachers. Please explain your interest
