GRADIND BELTS MACHINE

The GRADER is an electrically-driven mechanical machine used to segregate fish
crops into several pre-set sizes.
Operation
The fish are delivered into the Collection Basin. The most useful and recommended
method of delivery is by means of a dedicated SCREW ELEVATOR, also a
valuable product of AquaMaof Ltd.
From the Basin the fish enter a belted conveyor: a V-shaped channel with a variable
distance. Two closed-loop, electric motors driven rotating belts form the channel
walls.
The conveyor-transported fish fall through the increasing opening between the two
belts, to be distributed through swiveling outlets and pipe extensions into
separate, different containers. The separation of fish according to their size is
achieved.

2. Construction for Sliding and Tilting

The construction tilts the elevator in various angles as needed and moves the
elevator backwards and forwards on the main construction. This determines
the optimum distance and depth needed to draw the fish from the water (that
is, when the pipe extends to the maximum in the rear and the tilt is 48%, the
depth will be maximum. This construction also serves as a base for the
carrying beam.
The construction consists of:
1. A U-shaped rail for sliding wheels
2. Tilting piston which is connected to the main construction
3. Lifting piston which is connected to the main construction and raises the tilting axis

3. Carrying and Sliding Beam

The beam serves as a base for the elevators pipe. The pipes supports are mounted
on it, as well as the bases that enable sliding back and forth. Also mounted on the
beam are the collector shield, the upper water separator, the collapsible safety pull
and the motor.
The beam consists of:
1. Main beam
2. Polyurethane rollers which turn the elevator pipe
3. Rollers located in the U-shaped tilt rail to allow the beams sliding
forward and backward within the tilting construction.
4. Support ring for stopping the pipe from sliding backwards along the
beam and as a base for vertical rotation.
5. Motor The base is mounted on the beam and allows movement of the
Archimedes screw

4. Screw Pipe

The screw pipe is the central base of the entire elevator. It lifts the fish from the
water. The fish flow through the pipe and are emitted at its end. The pipe consists
of:
1. A stainless steel pipe in which is welded a spiral that seals in the water
and brings it to the pipes end.
2. Lower collector gathers the fish from the net (a relatively large area)
and introduces the fish into the pipe. The collector also has a grate that
adjusts the amount of water in order to prevent internal whirlpools.
3. Sliding ring mounted on pipe in order to prevent pipe from sliding
on beam.

5. Upper Water Separator

Separator is located at the upper end of the pipe. It separates the water from the fish
and returns it to the pool, allowing only the fish to be weighed. It also serves as an
adjusting axis for the optimum incline for unloading fish. It consists of:
1. Separator base inside base is the grate along which the fish and water
pass. At its base is a 6 nickel pipe connected to the flexible pipe that
returns the water to the pool.
2. Separating adapter which serves as axis of water separator and pipe
elevator
3. Winch cable - that raises and lowers the water separator and sets the
desired height and incline of grate.
4. At the end of the separator is a 12 pipe on which can be mounted
either an angle pipe (to shift the flow of fish) or a tarpaulin bag (to
channel the fish to the containers opening).

6. Collector Shield
The shield:
1. Protects the collector
2. Prevents the fish from returning to the water
3. Correlates between collector and pit

It is constructed of:
1. Pipes that serve as the shields base
2. A rubber sealing ring and a forward stainless steel ring that seal off the
net from the rapidly rotating collector.
3. U-parts or small bridges mounted on the shield, which anchor the net
to the shield and ensure that it will not come loose, as well as to
prevent the fish from escaping. It is recommended that fisheries with a
proper drawing out pit have a soft 10 cm rubber ring in order to ensure
a total seal between the pits pipe and the collectors shield.
4. Emergency ring and cable installed at the shields upper end, to stop
elevator operation in times of emergency.

7. Hydraulic System
Description of unit:
Two hydraulic gearwheel pump supply power for the two units; one for the sorting
machine and one for the screw elevator. Pump for screw elevator supplies power for
height control, tilting, sliding, and rotating the pipe. Speed of rotation is controlled by
oil regulator. System is protected by relief valve.
Sorting unit is operated by four hydraulic motors connected in pairs on line to receive
identical speed and power between belts. Telescopic piston changes sorting
machines height. Valve 50/50 divides oil between pairs of motors. Belt speed
determined by quantity regulator and system is protected by 2 relief valves. Water
pump is also installed on sorting machine and is operated by high-speed oil motor
controlled by quantity regulator. (Sketches included)
The hydraulic system supplies all options for controlling the angles, height and
length of the elevators operations as well as the depth of fish extraction and
position of the pipe on the central construction.
The system consists of:
1. A hydraulic power unit with an oil tank, pump and motor, which supply the
pistons with oil.
2. Lifting piston that determines the center of the elevators tilt, as well as
the height of its tail while it is transferred from place to place. For example,
if the piston is open to the maximum height, the screws tail will be at its
highest.
3. Tilting piston sets the elevators angle. For example, if the pool is 1.30 m
deep, the screws base stands on its edge and the needed height of the spill
is 2.50 m, the tilt piston will determine the elevators angle according to the
conditions in the field. This piston is located at the front of the central
construction and is attached to the tilting and sliding construction and
allows collapse of the front axle swivel-able wheel to achieve convenient
transporting. This piston allows determination of the height of the safety
pulling device, in order to attach it to a tractor or car.
4. The sliding piston is located on the underside of the main beam and parallel
to it and is attached to the beam and to the sliding and tilting rails. It slides
the pipe up and down or backwards and forwards in order to set the distance
for fish removal from the base, as well as the height at which the fish are
ejected. If there is a problem of distance from the base, the sliding piston
will set the distance at which the fish will be ejected from the construction.

If there is a problem of depth, the sliding and tilting pistons will both enable
removal of fish at as great a depth as possible.
5. Selectors control the pistons. Each hand selector has its own color, which
is the same as the color on the piston. This enables identification of the
piston you wish to operate.

Placement of the elevator

Selecting angle and depth of drawing out fish
Adjusting angle of the grate on elevators top
Operating machine and routine work
Folding of elevator and preparation for moving from place to place
General upkeep

1. Placement of the Elevator

The following should be taken into account when positioning the elevator:
1. The slope of the embankment near the pool
2. Off-loading area
3. Height of off-loading
After selecting the site, the elevator should be placed as close as possible to the
worksite. Hook up the electricity and lower the front axle swivel-able wheel to
transfer position. Using tilting piston, release connection to vehicle. Move the
elevator manually to its final site. Release the brakes and place them in front of and
behind transfer wheels. Make sure that they are properly tightened (after gaining
work experience on the elevator it will be possible to position it immediately, using
the vehicle). Lower the support beams so that the base of the legs is as firmly
planted on the ground as possible and tighten the screws to prevent the legs from
slipping. Tilt the elevator slightly backwards. Remove the safe pulling systems

locking pin so that it can move back and be free (if necessary, the safe pulling
system can be tied back to allow the tank to get as close as possible to the elevator).
Begin tilting the elevator to the desired angle with the tilting piston, to desired
depth and distance. The ideal position for drawing out fish is when 2/3 of the
collector is covered with water and the machine is as horizontal as possible. But the
elevator can draw out fish even from 10 cm of water and at a maximum angle of
48. Make sure
that the elevator is not leaning heavily on its lower edge, in order to avoid
damaging or bending the collector.
2. Selecting Angle and Depth
Selection of angle and depth of drawing fish from the pool depends on a number of
factors:
1. The pools depth relative to the elevators location
2. The height from which the fish are poured the height of the tank or fish sorter
In principle, the more the machine is horizontal, the larger the quantity of fish and
water between the spiral pitches, and the fishing conditions improve. In addition,
when the angle of the grate separating the water from the fish is insufficient, the
fish will not slide properly and if the channel is at too steep an angle, the water will
flow forward beyond the grate. An angle of 10-15 is ideal.
Tilt the elevator by using the tilting piston until the collector slides into the water.
The lifting piston also determines the angle. The more the piston is closed, the
lower the edge of the elevator. Balance is achieved by using the three pistons
tilting, lifting and sliding.
Work with the pistons must be done most gently in order to avoid damage to the
elevator and to other machinery in the area. The final angle can also be achieved
after placing the sorter or the tank.
If the pool is emptied, leave a range for sliding and tilting down and also enough
height above the sorting machine or the tank.

3. Adjusting angle of ejection

Adjustment of the angle of fish ejection is carried out using the water separator
located on the elevators upper end. The separator is controlled by a manual
winch which determines the grates and the separators incline, as well as the
elevators final ejection height. In principle, it is worthwhile to maintain an
angle of approximately 10-15 in order to allow the fish to slide easily while
still being able to effectively control the water. But it is also possible to place a
cover over the grate in order to direct the water to the sorters receiving tank.
Final adjustment of the separators angle is carried out only after placing the
additional equipment and then the separator is lowered to its final position. Take
into account that the fish flow forwards when you place the additional
equipment. It is possible to attach a 90 or 45 12-inch plastic pipe in order to
channel the direction the fish flow in.

4. Starting the machine and routine work

Before starting the elevator, check that no one is working on its placement or
doing any other work on it. Make sure that the net tied to the opening will not
interfere with the flow of the fish (tighten the weights around the collector
shield and make sure that there is no surplus net to get caught in the rotating
screw. Make sure that the water separator is properly positioned and is at the
proper incline and that the fish will flow to the tank or to the sorter. Once all
this is done, the elevator can be turned on. Begin operation at very slow speed
until the elevator is filled with water (at that time, water will begin to flow in
the overflow pipe coming out of the water separator). After this, speed can be
increased.
There is a direction selector in the portable control box. In order to draw the
fish out of the water, set the selector so that the pipes rotation is in the same
direction as the arrows on the pipe. At works end, make sure that the pipe is
empty by turning it in a backwards direction for 2-3 minutes. Pace of fish
withdrawal from the water will be set by the sorters at the sorting table or by
the operator of the water tank.
Before operating, make sure that:
1.
All emergency buttons are in operating position (pull them out)
2.
The reset button is in operating position
3.
The elevator is working on minimum speed
4.
The elevator is properly stabilized. If not, rotations will cause
vibrations to the right and left.
During work it is possible to leave the hydraulic power unit working and it is
also possible, in certain situations, to shut off the motor if the elevator does not
sink.
5. Folding the machine and preparing it for transfer from place to place
At works end, make sure that the elevator is empty of water (most important!).
The elevator should never be moved when there is water in the pipe. After
emptying the pipe by rotating it backwards, slide the pipe forward to lift the safe
pulling system forward to where it can be fixed in the travel position.
