INTRODUCTION

Alcohol Intoxication (may also be known as Drunkenness, Ethanol poisoning or

Inebriation) is a physiological state induced by the consumption of more alcohol
than ones body can handle; certain religions consider this as a sin and
numerous medical articles delineates that this type of intoxication is a form of
poisoning. Euphoria, flushed skin, decreased social inhibition, bad breath, slurred
or loud speech, nausea, vomiting, enlarged pupils, blackouts, seizures are some
physical signs and symptoms of this.

Although everyone is aware of its effects on ones body, many of us still continue
to hoist such substances. It is somewhat understandable and acceptable when
adults drink it, but why does young adults do it now too? What could be the
effects of alcohol intoxication to them?

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Teenage drinking became the youth's means of relaxation, especially those

young adults who had a hard time coping up with their studies. Even high school
students were already used to drinking, during their free time, weekends or the
so called "Saturday night fever". This usually happens when one minor invites
his/her katropa for a shot, or out of curiosity; risk-taking and thrill-seeking might
include experimenting with alcohol.
What makes the teenagers to start drinking?

Adolescence is a transitional stage of physical and psychological human

development, this stage of life is most closely associated with teenage years
where it deals with mixed emotions, thoughts, and adjustment. This is the period
where they start to join groups, choose the society they want to be associated
with and pressured by their peers.
And this is the period which is considered difficult to handle by their parents. A
rebellious stage for teenagers that makes it hard to understand what they want
from their lives.
Sometimes, teenager drinks because they always see their parents drink. Over a
period of time, parents drinking have a great effect on the teenage mind, bound
with thoughts that drinking is the only possible way to escape reality.
Other cause of teenage drinking is due to love problem. Often times when they
faced a relationship problem, most of the young adults believed that if they are
under the influence of Alcohol, it would be an easy way to be numb, to not feel
any emotions and heartbreaks, to forget the temporary break up or worries that
their relationship would end.
With the increase in teenage drinking, every day there are almost death due to
vehicular accidents, Study shows that drinking related death toll each year rose
to 5,000 and about one fourth of these accidents are due to drunkenness,
Additionally, every two hours a teenager dies from an alcohol related accident an alarming situation and this will continue if left unchecked by parents.
There should be something that needs to be done by the government, the
school, parents and the community as a whole to curve this teenage drinking
habit.

Self-awareness is one good thing to minimize the number of teenage drunkards,

they should be given the right advice not to deal a single shot with alcohol
because it's dangerous to get used to it.
Teens should be given more attention in their early stage of development and
parents are the one responsible for their safety and security. They should
coordinate with school authorities, communities and other core groups
responsible for teens welfare.
A well-coordinated effort by these groups of authorities focusing towards the
teenagers future could form a solid plan that would be used as a guide to make
the future of these teenagers more productive and useful to the society.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

All over the news stream, plastered in newspapers as headline and broadcasted
on the radio bring news of yet another alcohol-related tragedy involving a young
helpless person- a case of fatal alcohol poisoning on a college campus, a wound
stabs during get-together or a late-night drinking-drive crash. The shocking fact is
people ages 14-25 often are in the news, but are they really at the higher risk
than anyone else for problems involving alcohol?
The issue here is the way that young adults drink that puts them at such high risk
for alcohol-related problems. Most people believe that alcohol leads to a positive
and satisfying life experiences as people in transitional stage (adolescence to
young adulthood) they mistakenly thought of the benefits from drinking and
become less convinced of the danger.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

about what alcohol intoxication may do to a person, a young adult, physically and
mentally, more likely to those who reach dangerous levels of intoxication, who
become less capable of looking after themselves and more likely those who like
dangerous risks.

intoxication towards the body and more importantly to the brain of some young
adults from Our Lady of Fatima University Antipolo Campus and Manuel I.
Santos Memorial National High School, Taytay, Rizal.

This study only prioritizes about finding out the mind set and opinions of these
teenagers towards the effects of drinking alcohol to them as we give some
questionnaires about our study.

With the use of survey questionnaires, this study has conducted a research from
the 100 students from OLFU Antipolo Campus and MISMNHS:

Ages ranging from 13-25
