Gilats Customer Educational Services department is committed to delivering focused, costeffective training programs designed to maximize your organizations ability to successfully
design, configure, operate and manage your network using Gilat products.
To keep pace with new product designs and technology, we continually enhance our
courseware and develop new offerings. The instructional design of our courses is a blend of
presentations, discussion and hands-on exercises, allowing attendees to fully benefit from
their studies. Students acquire new skills and knowledge through practicing what is learnt in
a controlled instructor-facilitated setting consisting of the most up-to-date software and
hardware. A team of highly skilled engineers who are also professional educators staffs
Gilats CES department, each with a rich background and expertise in training techniques
and methodology.
A variety of courses is available and custom curriculums can be tailored to your specific
operation and personnel. The Hub Operations courses guide Tier 1 support personnel
through System Theory, Architecture, Data-Flow, Installation, Operation, basic
Troubleshooting & Maintenance procedures. The Advanced Hub Operators courses are
designed to enhance the skill set of Tier 2 level support personnel who will be responsible for
performing high-level Network diagnostics and troubleshooting. The Advanced courses also
enable the Hub Operator to configure and maintain optional various add-on applications such
as QoS, Voice, and Internet Page Accelerator, Multicast for the data products, E1, and Call
Analyzers for the Telephony products. The troubleshooting course enables senior hub
operators to practice simulate and system faults giving providing analysis knowledge and
deep understanding. A variety of associated technology seminars that are needed as
preliminary knowledge for Gilat products are offered, including Internetworking, TCP/IP,
Basic and Advanced Telephony, and E1. Customized courses are available for Call Centers
who will be supporting VSAT customers.
Students who successfully complete the Standard or Advanced Hub Operators Courses will
receive a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Support Accreditation Certificate.
All courses are conducted at one of Gilats certified training centers located in the company
headquarters and Thailand. Each facility is equipped with the latest Hub, NMS/Configuration
Software, Remote VSATs and applications equipment. Custom curriculums or on-site
training pricing can be provided upon request.

Identify and connect Hub components
Explain the attributes of the DVB-RCS inbound access schemes
Understand DVBS2 essentials
Install configure and troubleshoot a VSAT
Describe the architecture of the NMS and the functions of each topology &

Login/Log-off of the NMS
Add/delete/modify VSAT regions and VSATs
Create/copy/modify component configuration templates
Analyze NMS Alarms and Events
Back up and restore NMS database parameters
Perform daily and periodic Hub Maintenance Procedures
Upon completion of the additional course days (up to 3) the student will successfully be
able to:
Understand and operate the SkyEdgeII features installed at the particular
customers site
Configure relevant SkyEdgeII components to support the specified features

Explain the network architecture and basic theory of the VSAT operation
Have a fundamental understanding of Basic Satellite Communications as well as
relevant Satellite and RF terminology/acronyms
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of a Satellite Based network as
compared to alternative broadband technologies
Illustrate the basic Inbound and Outbound data flow
List and describe the ODU subcomponents
Explain the features, relevant LEDs and displayed LCD parameters of the IDU
Demonstrate the VSAT configuration procedures
List and describe all the steps involved in the commissioning process
Determine the best suitable antenna mount for various installations
Assemble all the components of the ODU/Feed Assembly
Assemble, install and peak antenna for optimum performance using a Spectrum
Analyzer or Field Strength meter
Prepare IFL cables and connectors using a crimp/cutter tool for RG-6 and RG-11 coax
Weatherproof RF connectors using MOCAPTM or COAXSEALTM
Calculate the Look-Angle for a given location
Point the VSAT antenna using a DVB capable Field Strength Meter or Spectrum
Analyzer
Configure a PC with the required network parameters
Test and troubleshoot VSAT/Network integrity using basic networking commands in
order to verify that the installation was successful

Course Overview:
This course is aimed at the Field Service Engineers and Hub Operators who will be
responsible for the Tier-2 support and integration of the advanced features in the SE system.
Course participants will receive extensive background information on the technologies
supported by SkyEdge. The course entails daily hands-on workshops enabling the
participants to practice system/equipment configurations discussed in the training.
The course is a customized course and enables the potential participants to select the topics
of their interest from the training modules presented below and to determine the length of the
course.
Note: The minimal duration of the course is 5 days; the maximal duration is 10 days.

VSATs.
Course participants will receive extensive background information on the technologies

Since this course is at customer premises, the hands-on part of the course based on the
customer network, hub and network safety constrains.
