Special tools and workshop equipment required
t Support set for Audi -VAS 6131/10-, supplementary set -VAS 6131/12- and -VAS 6131/13-
t Assembly tool -T10118Procedure

Engine/gearbox assembly removed and
l secured to scissor-type assembly platform VAS 6131 ANote
Fit all cable ties in the original positions
when installing.
Remove banjo bolt -2- from power

steering pump and detach hydraulic line.
Seal off open pipes/lines and connections
with clean plugs from engine bung set VAS 6122-.

Note
Ignore items marked -1- and -arrows-.
Unplug electrical connector -2- for

engine speed sender -G28-.
Note
Disregard -item 1-.

Release electrical connector -4- at starter

solenoid switch and unplug connector
Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
Detach protective cap for battery positive
wire.
Remove nut -2-, detach battery positive
wire from starter solenoid switch and

move wire clear.
Note
Disregard -items 1, 3-.
Vehicles with manual gearbox:

Unplug electrical connector -arrow- for
reversing light switch -F4- and move

electrical wire clear.

Vehicles with R tronic:

Unfasten bolts -1- and remove heat
shield -arrow-.
Caution
Make sure not to interchange electrical
connectors.
The electrical connectors at gear selection
valves and gearbox hydraulic pressure
sender -G270- are colour coded to prevent
them from being interchanged. If the
colour coding is no longer visible, mark
the connectors before unplugging them to
prevent them from being interchanged.
Unplug electrical connectors -1 ... 6- and
move clear.

Note
Disregard -arrow-.
Remove earth connection -arrow- at top

of bracket for hydraulic unit.
Unplug electrical connectors -1 ... 4- and

move clear.
Move clear wiring harness on gearbox
and lay harness on engine.

Remove bolts -arrows- and detach heat

shield.
All vehicles (continued):

Remove bolts -1- and -2- and take off
bracket for exhaust manifold with

catalytic converter (right-side).

Remove bolt -arrow- on bracket for

exhaust manifold with catalytic
converter.
Set up the scissor-type assembly platform as

follows:
Set up scissor-type assembly platform VAS 6131 A- with support set for Audi VAS 6131/10-, support set -VAS 6131/12and supplementary set -VAS 6131/13- as

Position the support elements from VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/12- at left
of engine, as shown in the illustration.

Position the support elements from VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/12- at
right of engine, as shown in illustration.
Turn spindles for support elements
upwards until all locating lugs make

contact with mounting points.
Position the support elements from VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/13- at
front of gearbox, as shown in the
illustration.
Turn spindle for the support element
upwards until the support plate makes

contact with the mounting point.
Tighten base plates for support elements
to 20 Nm on scissor-type assembly
platform -VAS 6131 A-.

Move hydraulic line clear -arrow- and

push to side.
Unscrew remaining nuts -2 ... 6- securing

engine to gearbox.

Loosen clamping bolts -1- on sides of

scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131
A- and pull rear section of platform

together with gearbox towards rear -arrow.
