THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES UNDERLYING THE TEST

There are few theoretical principles that can be connected when the tests of all levels are
created. It is based on the principles of teaching and learning because in order to create a test
according to the specific levels, one should always combine it to ensure effective teaching and
learning where students will be able to answer the questions in the exam. When one tries to
create exam questions, there are two main parties that must be considered. A students point of
view and also from the teachers point of view where both these parties must mutually blend in
order to receive successful results from exams of all levels.
As for students point of view, the theoretical principles that must be taken into account
are the tests of all levels are created based on students prior knowledge where it can help them
in trying to answer the questions. When students trying to attempt the exam, they are coming
with knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes gained in the courses and through their classes. As
students bring this knowledge to bear in the exams, it influences how they filter and interpret
what they are learning and they can understand the exam questions and attempt it successfully.
Secondly, the tests are also created in order to know how students organise knowledge
influences how they learn and apply what they know during the exam. Students naturally make
connections between pieces of knowledge. When those connections form knowledge structures
that are accurately and meaningfully organized, students are better able to retrieve and apply
their knowledge effectively and efficiently in their exams.
Also, the tests are created in order to develop mastery where students must acquire
component skills, practice integrating them, and know when to apply what they have learned.
This is because students must develop not only the component skills and knowledge necessary to
perform complex tasks, they must also practice combining and integrating them to develop
greater fluency and automaticity.
Finally, students must learn when and how to apply the skills and knowledge they learn.
When exams questions are asked according to blooms taxonomy, students should be able to
understand and apply all the knowledge in answering the questions.

Teaching is a complex, multifaceted activity, often requiring us as instructors to juggle

multiple tasks and goals simultaneously and flexibly. Therefore, when a teacher is creating exam
questions, there are few theoretical principles that a teacher must focus on in order to create
questions accordingly to all the levels.
Firstly, to create exam questions, teachers will always know that effective learning
involves effective teaching on acquiring the relevant knowledge and using that knowledge in the
classroom. Only, when students have gained knowledge in that area only they are allowed to be
assessed. Teachers must always know on what to access students based on their understanding
over a topic taught during the class.
Also, by effective teaching which involves prioritizing the knowledge and skills that one
choose to focus on is also important where students will not be graded on something they dont
have the knowledge. If students are only graded or assessed based on what they have studied in
their class, then only students are able to fulfil the scope of a test and attempt it successfully with
confidence.
