My views about Tamil Subject

There have been issues on thrust of languages on southern states. This is more applicable to
Tamil Nadu. Recently there was a furore over Hindi to be used in social network and media.
Then came the Sanskrit week. While these are likely to continue with Modi at the helm of affairs
especially he almost drew a blank in the south, I would like to draw the attention of the Tamil
promoters to a suggestion.
We are concerned with the learning of Tamil, Chemmozhi, by all Tamils. It is definitely welcome.
But what do we do for the earning children who could not get Tamil in their early years?
I was one among the affected. I had to shift to the North for my professional life. I insisted upon
my children speaking in Tamil all through. But they could not learn Tamil in a formal way. And
there was no school that could teach them Tamil and they were too small to be left alone in
Tamil Nadu with my relatives or hostel. So, when I came to Tamil Nadu, I searched for school in
the middle level to educate my children. But all in vain just because no school system in Tamil
Nadu accepts to start Tamil at middle level. Either you study Tamil as others or get lost was the
reply.
Now the question is:
Do we have different course of study for such children in Tamil Nadu, say when they get
admitted to class V or VI? You have to study all those intricate literature of Tamil poems etc.
Why can't we have a course that will teach them simple Tamil. You can introduce Course A
Course B or even Course C for those children coming or migrating from other states or
countries.
Even the regular Tamil books for CBSE schools are not that easily available in the market. What
are these "Tamil Arvalars" doing? Why can't you carry it forward to willing people. The North
Indians do face similar problem. They have been living here for a very long period of time. They
do not mind admitting their children in Tamil Schools and teaching them Tamil as they are good
at spoken Tamil. But when it comes to studies and passing exam it is too difficult.
We blame Hindi people. But they promote their language in an easy manner. They have many
levels of course and exams to encourage children in learning Hindi. In our case, either we want
them to learn all Kambar, Valluvar, Siledai, Grammar, Illango etc. in perfect manner or choose
other languages like Hindi or French which is much easier to pass.
Just avoiding to give awards for those who don't take Tamil is not the way out. You must
encourage Tamil by allowing any interested one start the basic alphabets in any level and pull
up the schools who don't allow it.
Now, the rule is there that Tamil is compulsory in schools.
Now, I have a student in my school at class IV who has had Hindi as his second language all
through his education. His parents want him to take Tamil and study. He says that he can write
Tamil as if he is drawing. How the hell is he going to pick up those difficult verses and prose that
is found in Class IV book within a year?
I earnestly wish a simpler course prevails and wisdom prevails among the educational
authorities.
