Shiva Legends
Shiva is considered since the destroyer of the galaxy , in Hinduism. Shiva is a complex lord , in terms
of nature and represents contradictory qualities, becoming the destroyer and also the restorer
simultaneously. You'll find so many legends surrounding lord Shiva and his power. Here're a few wellliked stories of lord Shiva.

Story associated with Shiva Lingam : Why Shiva is worshipped in the Phallic Form
This is an intriguing story regarding the praise of Lord Shiva in the phallic form. It is believed that
when Brahma and Vishnu, the two deities with the Trinity, got into a quarrel regarding their
supremacy. Lord Brahma announced himself to be a lot more admired, being the creator. While the
preserver, Vishnu, pronounced he commanded more appreciation. Just then a huge pillar of fireplace
(lingam), called since Jyotirlinga, appeared in flames, before them. This Lingam enthralled both
Brahma as well as Vishnu, with its quickly increasing size.

With this incident, they forgot their fight and decided to locate its size. Vishnu took the form of boar
and went to the netherworld. Brahma thought the form of a Swan and flew for the skies. However
both of them were unsuccessful in completing the self-assumed tasks. At that time , Shiva appeared
out of the lingam and acknowledged that he was the progenitor of each , Brahma and Vishnu. So, he
should be worshipped in his phallic (lingam) form, and never in the anthropomorphic form.

Story of Shiva and the Hunter

Here is but one more interesting tale of Lord Shiva, showing his merciful nature. Once a hunter was
wandering in the dense forest, to be able to chase a deer and suddenly this individual found himself
on the banks of lake Kolidum, where this individual heard the roar of a tiger. So that you can defend
himself from your tiger, he climbed up a tree close by. The tiger woods sat on the ground beneath the
tree without the purpose to leave.

The huntsman stayed at the tree whole night time and to keep himself awake, he plucked one leaf to
another from the tree as well as threw it straight down. There was a Shiva Lingam under the tree and
gracefully the tree turned out to be a ''bilva'' tree (leaves of this tree tend to be adored by Shiva).
Without any knowledge, the huntsman had thrilled the deity by pouring Bilva leaves all night. With the
introduction of the sun, the hunter looked straight down and found the tiger woods gone. In its place ,
Lord Shiva was standing and he prostate before the lord. With Shiva's blessings, this individual
attained salvation from your bondage of the material world.
Different brands of Shiva
Lord Shiva is considered as the destroyer of the Universe as per the Hindu Mythology. Shiva is one of
the most popular gods of the Hindus. Lord Shiva is really a complex god just like goddess Kali,
becoming destroyer and restorer at the same time. Shiva can be known as Bhole Shankar, the
innocent lord , who gets appeased easily. Shiv Shambhu is also recognized as a great ascetic, as he
resides on Mount Kailash in meditation. Lord Shiv is worshipped usually in his phallic (Lingam) form.
Special Worship of Shiva can be seen during the month of Saawan (July-August) of Hinduism. Lord
Shiva is known by many different names. This particular list contains 108 names of lord Shiva with

Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe Shriimahaadeva Shambho"

Meaning: The literal meaning of the concept is: "O lord , kindly pardon my incorrect actions carried
out consciously or instinctively , either through my bodily organs of action (hands , feet, and
presentation ) or through my organs of perception (eyes, ears) or perhaps by my mind. I enjoy the
God, who's the ocean associated with kindness".

Significance: by God's grace, we now have completed one more day's our life. Therefore , in order to
thank god and to ask for his mercy , one can recite this particular Sloka. This bedtime Sloka is a

Bhagavad Gita could be recited in order to get the peace of mind. Daily chant of these slokas, with

celestial world. Gita Slokas tell about the endless divine world which is pure and peaceful. These
slokas make the person realize the purpose , for what he/she comes in this world.

Following are a couple of the Slokas from Bhagavad Gita with their meanings:

"Cancalam Hi Manah Krsna Pramathi Balavaddrdham

Tasyaham Nigraham Manye Vayoriva Suduskaram"

This Sloka states that the person self is the traveller in the chariot with the material body and also the
intelligence is the motorist. Mind is the driving instrument and the sensory faculties are the horses.
Thus , the self may be the enjoyer or victim in the relationship with the mind and sensory faculties.

"Balam Balavatam Caham Kamaragavivarjitam

Dharmaviruddho Bhutesu Kamo'smi Bharatarsabha"

The Sloka says that God is separate and passionless strength of the dominant and also the virtuous
craving in men.

Ye Caiva Sattvika Bhava Rajasastamasasca Ye

Matta Everti Tanviddhi Na Tvaham Tesu Temayi

This Shloka tells that God is the only source of all good (satva), obsessive (rajas) as well as dark
(tamas) elements still, they are not inside God nor the deity is within them.

"Tribhirgunamayairbhavairebhih Sarvamidam Jagat

Mohitam Nabhijanati Mamebhyah Paramavyayam"

This Sloka states that the entire world is engrossed in the three elements of Satva, Raja, as well as
Tama. This is the reason, individuals don't recognize the endless God who is past them.

"Daivi Hyesa Gunamayi mama Maya Duratyaya

Mameva Ye Prapadyante Mayametam Taranti Te"

The Shloka states that the celestial maya of lord with its threefold characteristics is very complex.
However , those who worship lord are able to conquer it.

"Na Mam Duskrtino Mudhah Prapadyante Naradhamah

Mayayapahrtajnana Asuram Bhavamasritah"

This Shloka says that people who are attracted by maya of God drop their mind. They get fascinated
by the baser impulses preventing worshipping God. These people are stupid and evil who don't even
understand that all these situations are part of the web produced by the Almighty.

"Caturvidha Bhajante Mam Janah Sukrtino'rjuna

Arto Jijnasurartharthi Jnani Ca Bharatarsabha"

This Sloka says that there are four kinds of good people who praise god, those who wish earthly
gains, those who are suffering, those who seek knowledge and those who possess wisdom.

"Tesam Jnani Nityayukta Ekabhaktirvisisyate

Priyo Hi Jnanino'tyarthamaham Sa Ca mama Priyah"

This Shloka tells that out of the devotees, there are some wise people who want some thing in return
and the individuals who don't expect any fruit in return with the worship. God adores the people who
do not expect anything in return as their love for the god is true.

"Udarah Sarva Evaite, Jnani Tvatmaiva me personally Matam

Asthitah Sa hi there Yuktatma Mamevanuttamam Gatim"

This Sloka declares that all those who praise God are good. But the outstanding supporters , who
worship lord with the single motive to merge inside the God, are the accurate devotees who have
achieved the highest aim of existence.

Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi Karamadhye Sarasvati,

Vishhnupatni Namastubhyam Paadasparsham Kshamasva Me

Meaning: leading part of the hands (the finger tips) is paid to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess
associated with wealth. The middle component or palm is credited to Goddess Saraswati, the
Goddess of learning and also the root (the part of hands near the wrist) to be able to Govinda. So,
