Specifications for

Temperature Transmitters
1. Purpose:
This document describes the technical specifications of Electronic
Transmitters used for measurement of pressure and differential pressure in
process applications.
It is not intended to be a complete specification, but only as a guideline
highlighting key features.
2. Technical Specifications:
2.1.

GENERAL:

2.1.1. Transmitters shall be electronic SMART type capable of digital

communication like HART as per applicable data sheets.
2.1.2. Dual compartment enclosures which separate the electronics from
the termination side shall be provided for all transmitters.
2.1.3. Transmitters shall be suitable for installation in outdoor areas with
ambient temperature limits of -40 to 85 C (-30 to 80 C with LCD
display) and humidity limits of 0-100% RH.
2.1.4. Transmitters shall be suitable for hazardous area installation. Type
of protection [Explosion-proof / Intrinsic safe ] and Certifying Agency
[FM / CSA / ATEX / IECEx / Etc.] shall be as per applicable data sheets.
Combination approvals for multiple protection type (Exd/Exi/Exn) shall
be offered, when available.
In case of FM Exd approval, Transmitters shall be suitable for
installation in Div.1 area without the need for additional conduit seals.
2.1.5. Transmitters shall be weather-proof to IP65/NEMA4X as minimum.
2.1.6. Transmitters shall comply with EN61326 standards for EMC
conformance.
2.1.7. Cable entries shall be NPT / M20 x 1.5. Unused cable entries
shall be provided with metallic blind plugs. Wiring terminals should be
accessible by opening the rear cover without removing the LCD.
2.1.8. Transmitters shall be provided with detachable type mounting
brackets in SS304 / SS316 suitable for 2 pipe mounting.
2.1.9. Transmitter enclosure shall be provided with external ground
connection.
2.1.10.
Transmitters shall be provided with integral display which can
display the process value and diagnostics; in addition it should also
have a bar graph indication for better visibility.

HART / SAFETY TRANSMITTERS (SIS APPLICATION):

2.5.1. Safety (SIS) transmitters shall be based on 4-20mA with

superimposed digital signal based on HART protocol for diagnostics.
2.5.2. SIS pressure and differential pressure transmitters shall have
hardware FMEDA and Fault Injection tests performed independently by
reputed third party.
2.5.3. SIS pressure and differential pressure transmitters shall have
complete assessment as per IEC61508 including hardware and
software (firmware).
2.5.4. SIS transmitters shall be capable of being used in single mode for
SIL2 and redundant mode for SIL3 loops.
2.5.5. All HART transmitters shall be certified for SIS usage for
standardization and reduction of spares inventory.
2.5.6. SIS transmitters shall have write protect functionality
implemented via hardware setting switch and software with password
protection to prevent inadvertent parameter / configuration changes.
