As mentioned in the class final lecture, we must risk, commit, move forward.

This
applies to life and love. To love is a risk. To love is to commit. To love is to chase
after the one we feel, and see, is right for us. We cannot stand idly waiting for them
to fall upon our lap. We must do something to make it happen. As stated by Vaclav
Havel:
Vision is not enough. It must be combined
with venture. It is not enough to stare up the
steps, we must step up the stairs.
There is this similar quotation by Martin Luther King, Jr. that goes: Take the first
step in faith. You dont have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
To explain this thesis statement, I would like to partition the statement. Let us first
go into vision. What is vision? We understand the word in two ways. The first way
we look at vision is its literal meaning: to see. The other way to understand vision is
hinged on this first idea: what we see ourselves as doing. In this sense, to have a
vision is to provide yourself meaning and direction. It makes us think of something
to do. This vision gives us passion. A passion that we must not let die, like the
burning bush. This eternal fire can only be extinguished by serving its eternal
purpose, which will be discussed later. But we havent done concretized this vision
yet. This is why vision is not enough. It only resides in our mind. We must venture
out.
To venture out is to do three things. First, we commit ourselves to the vision we
made for our self. Second, it fulfils our eternal purpose. Lastly, it is our revelation.
We reveal ourselves to the unknown, and the unknown reveals itself to us, as a
response to its revelation. Now, to explain them one by one.
By venturing out, we are committing ourselves to the vision. But there is a catch to
this vision. There is no certainty in it. This vision has a great unknown. There are
always blind spots. By committing ourselves, we are going committing to something
blindly. This is counter-intuitive. Veling, in the chapter We will do and we will hear,
mentions this fact. We first theorize. We create a theory, an idea, a vision, before
we do anything. But, as he mentions later, we must, at some point, have to decide
and act. Your choice, thus, affects what you do and what you do affects what you
choose. But the important thing here is that you choose. You cannot ask someone to
answer your life for you.
Now, this venturing out also does another thing. It helps us to fulfil our eternal
purpose. How so? Our vision for our self is hinged on our individual talents and
abilities. These talents and abilities are what gives us our eternal value. To do
something in fulfilment of our value is our eternal purpose. Since our talents and
abilities are highly individual, so is our eternal purpose.
To go back to my analogy with love, to have a vision is to see that someone who
becomes the apple of our eye. We see them as a potential partner. This is the
vision. You are charged with emotion but you do nothing. In the end, nothing will

happen. You must go out and commit to the cause of making what vision of you and
that person a reality. But why must we do this with the risk of getting hurt?
The answer here is the third thing that happens with venturing out. We reveal
ourselves. This decision is a moment of madness, as was mentioned by Veling. But
if we do not go out of our comfort zone, we would know nothing. To put our self out
there is what helps us learn. If you do not reveal your feelings, your intentions, how
would you know if there is any chance? This venturing out is a revelation, of sorts.
To put it figuratively, we must take a leap of faith
What we already know of faith is that it is both certain and obscure, but I want to
concentrate on obscurity. With this, we go back to the idea of the great unknown
can only be made known if a revelation happens. In the context of my analogy, this
is the same as telling that person your intentions. You reveal yourself. This
revelation starts a relationship, may it be as friends or to something more. Your
revelation, the venturing out, is what triggered a response.
To sum everything up, to have a vision to provide ourselves meaning. This meaning
provides a burning fire within us. Now, this vision is not enough. We must venture
out. In venturing out, we commit to the fulfilment of this vision. Also, by venturing
out, we are fulfilling our eternal purpose, a purpose that is holy. One which sets us
apart and makes us whole. This venturing out is also a revelation of ourself to the
unknown and the unknown worlds revelation to us.
