Please note to use the X-ray tube components according to their permitted heat
capacities, casing temperature shall not be exceeding 70.

2.

In order to minimize absorbed dose of patients, operators are required to maximize

the distance between the focus used and the skin.

3.

In order to avoid excessive attenuation of X-ray beam caused by materials inserted

between the patient and the X-ray film, bed panel is made of high-density laminates,
where the largest attenuation equivalent is 0.9mmAl.

4.

In the following conditions, the manufacturer is responsible for the product security,
reliability and performance impact:

2.3 Responsibilities
Ensure that all personnel authorized to use the equipment are aware of the danger of
excessive exposure to X-ray radiation.
The equipment herein described is sold with the understanding the manufacturer, its
agents, and representatives are not liable for injury or damage which may result from
overexposure of patients or personnel to X-ray radiation.
The manufacture does not accept any responsibility for overexposure of patients or
personnel to X-ray radiation generated by this equipment which is a result of poor
operating techniques or procedures.
No responsibility will be assumed for any equipment that has not been serviced and
maintained in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, or which has been modified
or tampered with in any way.
It is the responsibility of the operator to ensure the safety of the patient while the X-ray
equipment is in operation by visual observation, proper patient positioning, and use of the
devices that are intended to prevent patient injury.
Should any interference (EMC) be detected with other equipment, please position other
equipment away from this one.

2.4 EMC
For the intended use, this X-ray system complies with the EMC. This includes definitions
5

Medical X-Ray Radiography System

Operation

on permitted levels on electromagnetic emission and requirements on immunity against

electromagnetic emissions from other equipment.
It is not possible, however, to exclude with absolute certainty the possibility that other high
frequency electronic equipment, which is fully compliant to the EMC regulations, will not
adversely, affect the operation of this system. If the other equipment has a comparatively
high level of transmission power and is in close proximity, these EMC concerns (the risk of
interference) may be more pronounced. It is therefore recommended that the operation of
equipment of this type such as mobile telephones, cordless microphones and other similar
mobile radio equipment be restricted from the vicinity of this X-ray system.
Explanation
Electronic equipment that satisfies the EMC requirements is designed so that under
normal conditions there is no risk of malfunction caused by electromagnetic interference.
However, in the case of radio signals from highfrequency transmitters with a relatively
high transmitting power, the risk of electromagnetic incompatibility when operated in close
proximity to the equipment cannot be totally ruled out.
For this reason, all kinds of transmission with mobile radio equipment should be avoided.
This also applies when the equipment is in standby mode.
Mobile telephones must be switched off in designated problem zones.

2.5 Radiation protection

2.5.1 X-ray protection
Warning: Ensure that before performing any fluoroscopy or radiography all the
necessary radiation protection measures have been taken.
Although this apparatus is built to the highest safety standards and incorporates a high
degree of protection against X-radiation other than the useful beam, no practical design of
equipment can provide complete protection. Nor can any practical design compel the
6

Medical X-Ray Radiography System

Operation

operator to take adequate precautions to prevent the possibility of any persons carelessly,
unwisely, or unknowingly exposing themselves or others to X-radiation.
It is important that everyone working with X-radiation be properly trained and take
adequate steps to insure protection against injury. The manufacturer assumes that all
operator and service personnel authorized to use, install, calibrate and maintain this
equipment is cognizant of the danger of excessive exposure to X-radiation, is sufficiently
trained and has the required knowledge for it. The equipment herein described is sold with
the understanding that the manufacturer, its agents, and representatives are not liable for
injury or damage which may result from exposure to X-radiation.
Influence of some X-ray has accumulative effect and has couple of months even years of
latency period. As for the operator, the safest principle is avoid direct X-ray at any time.
Any substance in X-ray path may cause secondary radiation (scattered rays). Intensity of
the secondary radiation depends on energy and intensity of initial ray and atomic number
of substance irradiated. Intensity of the second ray may be stronger than that arrived on
the film, and therefore, proper measures shall be taken to prevent this second ray.
Necessary preventive measures for X-ray:
1. Time protection
The longer the radiation time is, the higher the absorbed dose accumulated will be, for this
reason, irradiation time shall be shortened as for as possible, all persons shall shorten
their time staying in the X-ray room. X-ray operator shall properly adapt to darkness to
shorten irradiation time, irradiation condition shall be optimum to avoid film waste.

2. Distance protection
Irradiation quantity is inversely proportional to square of distance, i.e. when distance
between person and X-ray source (focus) increases one time, irradiation quantity will be
reduced to 1/4 of original quantity, and therefore, all persons (except for the person
examined) shall be stay away from the X-ray source as far as possible during operation of
X-ray unit; distance between skin of the person examined and focus shall be increased as
far as possible.
3. Shield protection
During X-ray therapy or diagnosis, time and distance protections maybe restrained, in this
7

Medical X-Ray Radiography System

Operation

case, a more effective protection shall be taken, i.e. shield protection. Lead shield is an
effective way. To reduce radiation, following items maybe used: lead shield, lead rubber
gloves, lead rubber apron, lead glasses, lead protective chair and lead protective vehicle.
X-ray protective wall may also be used to reduce radiation. Lead shield shall have
thickness not less than 2mm, or equal to 2mm lead equivalent, personal protective gears
(such as apron, gloves and etc) shall have lead thickness not less than 0.25mm, or equal
to 0.25mm lead equivalent. To meet particular basic protection requirement, you are
suggested to refer to national or local X-ray protection sanitation standard.
Note: During operation or maintenance of X-ray equipment, hand, wrist, arm or
any other parts of body shall not exposed under direct X-ray.
During operation, followings shall be observed:

Radiography stand shall be placed at side close to the wall to avoid X-ray direction
opposing to the console, adjacent room, dark room and corridor shall be protected
from direct irradiation of useful ray.

Distance is the most effective radiation protection. Keep as far away as possible from
the exposed object and from the Xray tube assembly.

Wear protective clothing. Radiation protection aprons with a lead equivalent of 0.35
mm attenuate Xradiation at 50 KV by 99.95%, and at 100 KV by 94.5%.

Avoid working in the direct beam of radiation. If this is inevitable, protect yourself.
Wear radiation protection gloves.

Select as short a fluoroscopy time as possible. This will reduce total radiation dose
considerably.

Wear a personal dosimeter (film badge).

For radiation protection of the patient use radiation protection accessories in addition
to the devices on the Xray equipment(e.g. diaphragm, spacers, filters).

Always use the smallest Xray beam collimation. Scattered radiation is largely
dependent on the volume of the exposed object.

Medical X-Ray Radiography System

Operation

If possible, use large focal spot to skin distances in order to keep the patients skin
dose as low as reasonably achievable.

If area to be irradiated close to generative organ, the patient shall wear lead rubber
apron (generative organ protective cover or lead rubber cover) to minimize irradiation
damage to the patient.

Please note that all materials located in the Xray beam between patient and image
receptor (e.g. film) affect the image quality and the patient dose.

Please make sure that during the whole examination the audio and visual
communication between the operator and the patient is guaranteed, if necessary by
technical means (e.g. intercom).
Warning: Safety circuits which prevent X-radiation from being switched on
under certain conditions must never be removed or altered.

2.5.2 Radiation protection standard

The key in radiation protection standard is dosage limitation standard. Various X-ray
radiation studies provides reference for permitted maximum X-ray radiation dosage. Our
Regulation for Radiation Protection specify maximum permitted dosage and limited dose
equivalent for X-ray radiation (these limits shall be updated frequently for continuous
emergence of new information) referring to ICRP protection standard. See table 2 below:

2.5.3 Detection of personal dose

The detection may indicate radiation dose received, by this way, we can determine
applicability of safety measures and find defect in radiation protection.

Instrument measurement is the most effective way to identify applicability of

existing safety measures. If any part on body of the operator receives irradiation,

10

Medical X-Ray Radiography System

Operation

radiation protection measures shall be taken. The radiation dose shall not
exceed permitted dose.

The method for radiation dose measurement which is frequently used but not
accurate is place the film in a key position for a period of time, and then the film is
flushed to determine the radiation dose.

A general method to determine excessive radiation is to use wear radiation dose plate
which contains X-ray sense film or thermoluminescence material. Although this plate
measures radiation only for part wearing the plate, it still indicates radiation quantity at
some extent.

2.6 Fire safety

Warning:

Only use extinguishers on electrical or chemical fires. Using water or other

liquids on an electrical fire can lead to fatal or other serious personal
injury.

Ventilation apertures must not be covered while the equipment is switched

on.
