OSB 4 TOP can be used in service class 1 (dry conditions) and 2
(humid conditions), and EUROSTRAND OSB/2 in service class 1.
tonguE and groovE profilE
The asymmetrical, conical tongue and groove profile of the
board and cladding panel guarantees exact and rapid construction
of floors, roofs and walls and the required stress transfer on
braced (diaphragm action) board connections. In addition, it
also improves the windproofness of the construction.
Our plant in Wismar, Germany has been certified in accordance
with ISO 9001 since 2001.

EGGER DFF
VAPOUR PERMEABLE, MOISTURE REGULATING WOOD FIBREBOARDS
DFF was specially designed by EGGER for use as a vapour
permeable light exterior cladding for roof and wall construction.
When used as a sub-roof board all of its advantages become
obvious. Here the board can be used as a second water-bearing
layer. Its useful insulating properties help protect against
summer heat input in the construction and improves the noise
control of the structure. EGGER DFF boards have been tested for
use as impact sound insulation boards under floating
EUROSTRAND OSB boards. Further application examples can
be found in this brochure on page 4/5.

MoisturE protECtion
EUROSTRAND OSB is characterised by low thickness swelling
and a high degree of dimensional stability (see technical data:
dimensional changes under influence of moisture). When used
as a supporting and bracing element, appropriate measures
should be taken against weathering. According to EN/TS 12872
wood and wood-based materials with the following equilibrium
moistures (see table) are fit for use if installation is carried out
correctly and no impermissible condensation can form.

fastEning
EUROSTRAND OSB can be attached with all fasteners suitable
for chipboard, such as screws, staples and nails. The length of
the nail/screw should be 2.5 board thickness and at least
50 mm. With staples, a minimum wire gauge of 1.53 mm should
be used. Corrosion resistant fasteners, e.g. made from galvanised
or stainless steel, are to be used. Due to the high withdrawal
strength, only flat-head nails with gutter groove, screw nails or
annularly threaded nails should be used (see also DIN 1052-2).
The crosswise orientation of the strands in the EUROSTRAND
OSB creates a secure base for the fastener, even in the outermost board edge. The thick core-layer structure ensures a high
withdrawal strength around the edges.

CLADDING/STRUCTURAL SHEATHING
WITH WOOD-BASED PANELS
Installation instructions
Detailed recommendations and basic rules for installation of wood-based materials
for roofs, walls and ceilings can be found in EN/TS 12872.
Edge distances/expansion joint floor/roof, ceiling
The installed wood-based panels must have an extra space of 15mm to the surrounding
construction components. This extra space enables tension free work to be carried out
on the panels as well as ventilation in the case of flooring. Skirtings must be fitted so
that the floor has adequate ventilation. Glued plastic skirtings are not suitable.
Trusses, etc. in the space should be sufficiently exposed. In areas with edge lengths
>10m, expansion joints that are permanently elastic should be arranged.
Wall
In the case of walls with edge lengths >10m expansion joints approx. 1015mm
wide should also be added.
Floor installation
The installation of the wood-based panels is carried out by joining them together
and therefore requires hardly any cutting in the case of floating installation. Cross
joints must not be formed. Panels must be offset by at least 40cm. Tongue and groove
panels can be fitted in the adjacent wall area by simply putting them in at an angle
in the groove. Free floating panel joints parallel to the supports are not permissible
according to Eurocode 5 Timber construction. Overhanging panels must be cut back
to the size of the decking. The frame of the subconstruction should match that of
the available panel sizes in order to minimise cutting. On old floorboards, first check
the old screws, and tighten them if necessary. Cut free any boards that are rubbing
against each other. Be aware of functional adjacent construction.
Board thickness
In the case of floating installations with EUROSTRAND OSB use a board thickness
of 18mm. In the case of high concentrated and individual loads use a board
thickness of at least 25mm.
Subconstruction FOR CERAMIC FLOOR COVERING
The EUROSTRAND OSB boards must have a board thickness of at least 25mm for
floors and 18mm in the case of walls and they must have high bending strength.
The tongue and groove flooring boards must be glued under one another and pushed
into place with force. They are screwed into the substructure (see also fastening
section). Deflection must not exceed e/600. When installing ceramic floors include
permanently elastic expansion joints every 34m.
19
note
If the pitch of the roof is less then 8
further measures should be taken
to ensure rain and water tightness
of the roof covering (i.e. taping the
EGGER DHF/DFF panel joints).
undErlay ClassifiCation
As interlocked underlay (boards with circumferential tongue and groove profile), the
boards are assigned to Class 3 according to the ZVDH guidelines. EGGER DHF and
EGGER DFF can be installed without an additional nail sealing strip under the counterbatten and without taping the tongue and groove joint, even in case of elevated
requirements and with a roof pitch up to 8 less than the regulation pitch. Compliance
with the minimum roof pitch of 16 is mandatory. Openings (for chimneys etc.) and
joints (covings, groins, dormers etc.) must be taped using suitable adhesive tape.
Increased requirements in addition to shortfall of standard roof pitch:
Use of attic, especially as living space
Special construction features, e.g. dormer windows, ridges, complicated roof shapes
Climatic factors, e.g. mountains or coasts
Local requirements, e.g. from building control
additional gluing
A taped underlay must be implemented when the roof pitch is less than the regulation
pitch of 16 by a maximum of 8. All board joints are taped using suitable adhesive
tape. The minimum roof pitch is 10.
transiEnt WEathEring
After installing EGGER DHF and DFF the roof covering/facade should be fitted
immediately. Between March and November the boards can be exposed to natural
weathering for 2 months as a temporary roof. In the winter months, structural
measures must be employed to ensure that the external covering layer of EGGER DHF
cannot freeze, since this would seriously impair the diffusion ability of the external
panelling cladding and potentially lead to moisture damage. In the winter months it
should only be exposed to natural weathering for a maximum of 2 weeks. If EGGER
DHF is used for load-bearing purposes then the moisture protection regulations of the
approval Z-9.1-454 apply and DIN 68800-2, i.e. the fitted boards have to be protected
from natural weathering.
EGGER DHF/DFF
used as rigid underlay
note
During the winter months, icing of
the outer layer of the EGGER DHF
board must be excluded by means
of suitable construction measures,
since this would severely impair the
diffusion characteristics of exterior
sheathing, which may result in
moisture damage.
uninsulatEd CoCk-loft
The roof area of an uninsulated cock-loft and an unconverted attic must also be
ventilated even by using a vapour permeable sub-roofing material. The recommended
ventilation cross-section, derived from the regulations for the ventilation of flat roofs
is 200 cm per running meter at the ridge and the eaves.
DIMENSIONING
note
Wooden structures are designed according to the appropriate National and European
standards. In the medium-term, Eurocode 5 has been introduced as an EU-wide
regulation for the design of wooden constructions. Characteristic values for the
structural design of EUROSTRAND OSB in accordance with Eurocode 5 can be
taken from DIN EN 12369-1 or from the building authorities.
The following assessment tables were created using the regulations for EUROSTRAND
OSB 4 TOP in accordance with approval Z-9.1-566 as well as the rules for the assessment
of wooden constructions in accordance with Eurocode 5.
