ROOF ASSEMBLIES

STRUCTURES
Architectural Items:

ROOF ASSEMBLY.

A system designed to provide


weather protection and
resistance to design loads. The
system consists of a roof
covering and roof deck or a
single component serving as
both the roof covering and the
roof deck. A roof assembly
includes the roof deck, vapor
retarder, substrate or thermal
barrier, insulation, vapor
retarder and roof covering.

ROOF COVERING.

The covering applied to the roof


deck for weather resistance, fire
classification or appearance.

PENTHOUSES.
An enclosed, unoccupied structure
above the roof of a building, other
than a tank, tower, spire, dome
cupola or bulkhead, occupying not
more than one-third of the roof
area.

Building Code requirements are the minimum quality that a building must have to get a
building permit many owners will require higher quality of standards, in particular at
roofs. I.e.: Class A roof is the most specified and used although not reqd by code.

Scope.
The provisions of this
chapter shall govern special
building construction
including membrane
structures, temporary
structures, pedestrian
walkways and tunnels,
awnings and canopies,
marquees, signs, and
towers and antennas.
Some pre-engineered
rooms such as clean, cold,
hot controlled sealed are
part of this general chapter.

Introduction:
IgCC background and definition:

General. This code is an overlay


to the other International Codes.
This code is not intended to be
used as a stand alone
construction regulation document
or to abridge or supersede safety,
health or environmental
requirements under other
applicable codes or ordinances. A
jurisdiction intending to adopt this
code without other ICC-Codes is
advised to make a detailed review
of locally adopted codes to ensure
that they adequately correlate with
this code.
