OBJECTIVES
Specify minimum standards for the construction of five (5) Mooring Buoys that
are going to be located near the City of Miramar Nagarote, Republic of
Nicaragua.

SCOPE
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
STRUCTURE
Materials
Carbon steel is going to be used for the plates that make up the hull of the
buoy, as well as for watertight bulkheads. The material selected (ASTM A-36 or
equivalent) shall comply with the specifications of ASTM A285-03 (Pressure
Vessel Plates, Carbon steel, low and intermediate strength). The minimum
thickness of the steel plates are 10 mm.

The structure shape is composed of a cylinder and a frustum (cone). For dimensions, see

Main Components:
a) Hull: The hull structure has a cylindrical shape (lateral) with a frustum cone
bottom. Both parts are composed of 10mm A-36 steel plates. Additionally
around the cylinders midpoint there is a ring made of A-36 type L steel
profiles.
b) Bulkheads: The inside of the structure is divided into three (3) watertight
bulkheads. Each bulkhead is made of a 10mm A-36 Steel Plate and
reinforced with four (4) A-36 type L Steel profiles on each side as
stiffeners.
c) Frames: In addition, the buoy has three (3) frames located in between the
bulkheads. These frames are formed by three (3) A-36 type L Steel profiles
located parallel to each shell of the buoy (cylinder, cone, deck).
d) Central Pipe: 16 inch Tube or central structural element with two (2) 3 inch
lugs at both ends for the installation of the quick release hook (upper) and
chain shackle (below).
e) Deck: The buoys deck is formed by a 10mm A-36 steel plate and nine (9)
A-36 type L Steel profiles as stiffeners.
2.-COATINGS
Las superficies internas (compartimientos) de las boyas deben ser protegidas con
recubrimiento protector de acuerdo con el procedimiento Sistema PDVSA 0-201 N 10, con
base a Fondo Inorgnico rico en Zinc, Fondo Epoxi Poliamida Alto Espesor y Acabado
Epxico Poliamina.
Las superficies externas de las boyas deben ser protegidas con recubrimiento protector de
acuerdo con el procedimiento Sistema PDVSA 0-201 N 12, con base a Epoxi 100%
slidos.
2.2.3.-Aplicacin de Recubrimiento
Pintura interna (Sistema N 10 de la norma PDVSA O-201):
Preparacin de superficie: PSC SP-5.
Perfil de anclaje: 1,5 a 2 mils.
Fondo Inorgnico rico en Zinc espesor 2,5 mils.
Fondo Epxico Poliamida espesor 4 mils.
Acabado Epxico Poliamina espesor 2 mils.
Total: 8,5 m ils.
Pintura Externa (Sistema N 12 de la norma PDVSA-O-201):
Preparacin de superficie: PSC SP-5.
Producto: Epoxi 100% slidos.
Perfil de anclaje: 2 a 2,5 mils.
Espesor de la capa inicial: 8 mils.
Espesor de la capa final: 8 mils.
Total: 16 mils.
Pintura Anti-vegetativa (Anti-fouling):
La zona del casco de las boyas que estar sumergida permanentemente o sujeta al
oleaje se le aplicar (justo antes de lanzarlas al agua, a fin de evitar que se oxide),
pintura Antifouling para casco de barcos, tal como Intersleek o Intersmooth de
Pinturas International, International Marine Coatings o similar.
2.3.-CATHODIC PROTECTION
El pedestal para la colocacin de la luminaria por estas especificaciones y ser parte
integral de la boya y de su construccin. El pedestal se fabricar segn lo indicado en los
planos del proyecto.
La luminaria se instalar sobre el pedestal diseado para tal efecto una vez colocada la
boya en sitio.
