Monica was warm and inviting with students. Her voice was encouraging and curious. The
students really enjoyed interacting with her because she came off as approachable and
enthusiastic.
Discussion interaction
Throughout the course, intern will facilitate one discussion group per week.
An active discussion participant, posting at least 3 times per week.
Answers student questions with patience, confidence and resourcefulness.
Looks for stranded posts (Primary posts that have not gotten a response within a
reasonable period of time.) and responds as needed.
Intern promotes student understanding of the connection between course work and
professional work outside of the online classroom.
Interns discussion additions expand the learning and stimulate additional research,
questions and/or discussion.
Following the close of the module, the intern will review student participation and
recommend to the cooperating instructor a preliminary score and comment for student
performance using the course grade scale. Scores and comments will be reviewed by
instructor before posting.
Synchronous sessions/Outreach
1. Participate in synchronous sessions.
2. Possibly coordinate one session in which intern is leader, possibly interviewing
former student.
3. Actively post to intern discussion forum to encourage questions from students about
our program.
4. Provide informal tech assistance, especially on portfolio development.
Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).
Susan provided me with the name of a former student to interview. I contacted the student,
created interview questions and conducted the interview during a synchronous session. I

thought the interview went well and Dawn, provided good information on how the EDUC
766 coursework helped her secure an instructional designer position.
I created a PSA using Jing on Scoop.it. This was a labor intensive activity, but a good
learning experience.

I think Monica has a lot of potential in working with adults online. She has the right sense of
presence and knows whats needed in discussion. If she were teaching her own content, Im sure
she would be able to add even more resources in comments. I think the administrative side of
teaching would be easy for her (she is organized). And with time, shed know what to say in
feedback. Monica, thanks for helping me out in a very challenging course!

Additional comments by intern.
After taking several classes with Susan I knew that I wanted to complete my practicum with her. When
Susan and I first talked, she had three course opportunities available. I was torn between two and after
further discussion with Susan, I chose EDUC 766- Instructional Strategies and Assessment. I am really glad I
chose to do my practicum in this course.
This course has provided some good insight into the world of adult learning, in education and the business
world. Through the course I was able to interact with a wide variety of learners, many from other countries
and it was eye-opening getting a peek at the other side of a course and having to deal with so many
different personalities. Working through the course also allowed me to see the different paths an
instructional designer could take.
I want to thank Susan for taking me on as a practicum student. After eight weeks, I have a notebook full of
tips and pearls of wisdom from Susan. It has been a rich and rewarding journey.
