I provided a welcoming, friendly introduction to the course. I tried to provide appropriate, helpful
feedback to students. Students appeared to appreciate information that I posted in the Intern Hangout.

Monica was warm and inviting with students. Her voice was encouraging and curious. The
students really enjoyed interacting with her because she came off as approachable and
enthusiastic.

I facilitated two discussion groups each week throughout the course. At the end of
each discussion, I provided scores and feedback for each student. I struggled with
providing constructive, positive feedback to students. With Susans guidance and
prompting and my own research, I was able to make progress on improving this
skill area.

This was an area where Monica felt a little uneasy in the beginning but caught on quickly. She
did an excellent job staying ahead of the content (especially given that she had not taken this
course. And she did double duty having 2 groups a week! She was appropriately present
not too much, not too little. Feedback was good; it takes time to develop a knack for that.
Professional Communication

Interns communication with cooperating instructor is polite, supportive and timely.

about any elements of student performance.

that specific student information and performance data is only to be discussed with the
cooperating instructor (first) and practicum supervisor.
Participates in a routine phone conference with cooperating instructor (every week at
first, then tapering to every 2 weeks)

Susan and I met each week and discussed the prior weeks activities. We talked about what I
behavior was to be reinforced during that weeks discussions. for the week. All discussion
feedback was presented to Susan before being released to the student. Susan encouraged me
to respond to technology questions immediately.

Monica was super about keeping me up to speed on what was happening and I enjoyed our
weekly meetings.

I previewed the EDUC 766 course material prior to the course opening. There were a few
graphic images problems that I reported to Susan.

This was fine she did everything she could to help me avoid tech issues. Plus she managed
the majority of the tech questions from students.

Synchronous sessions/Outreach
1. Participate in synchronous sessions.
2. Possibly coordinate one session in which intern is leader, possibly interviewing
former student.
3. Actively post to intern discussion forum to encourage questions from students about
our program.
4. Provide informal tech assistance, especially on portfolio development.
Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).
Susan provided me with the name of a former student to interview. I contacted the student,
created interview questions and conducted the interview during a synchronous session. I

thought the interview went well and Dawn, provided good information on how the EDUC
766 coursework helped her secure an instructional designer position.
I created a PSA using Jing on Scoop.it. This was a labor intensive activity, but a good
learning experience.

Cooperating Instructor comments (upon completion).

She was very well prepared for the synchronous session. This was a great feature!

I think Monica has a lot of potential in working with adults online. She has the right sense of
presence and knows whats needed in discussion. If she were teaching her own content, Im sure
she would be able to add even more resources in comments. I think the administrative side of
teaching would be easy for her (she is organized). And with time, shed know what to say in
feedback. Monica, thanks for helping me out in a very challenging course!

Additional comments by intern.
After taking several classes with Susan I knew that I wanted to complete my practicum with her. When
Susan and I first talked, she had three course opportunities available. I was torn between two and after
further discussion with Susan, I chose EDUC 766- Instructional Strategies and Assessment. I am really glad I
chose to do my practicum in this course.
This course has provided some good insight into the world of adult learning, in education and the business
world. Through the course I was able to interact with a wide variety of learners, many from other countries
and it was eye-opening getting a peek at the other side of a course and having to deal with so many
different personalities. Working through the course also allowed me to see the different paths an
instructional designer could take.
I want to thank Susan for taking me on as a practicum student. After eight weeks, I have a notebook full of
tips and pearls of wisdom from Susan. It has been a rich and rewarding journey.
