Description

Main purpose of job (max 200 words):

Back ground: Previously the Chevening management contract was with the British
Council which expired on 31st March. Now Chevening Scholarships are administered by
the Chevening Scholarships Secretariat at the Association of Commonwealth
Universities (ACU) which is London based and work online with posts across globe.
Since Chevening is an important public diplomacy tool, the FCO is now taking special
interest in utilising the untapped alumni resource and has become more proactive and
involved in the scheme management/ alumni engagement. Also, previously from
Pakistan we were sending 18-20 scholars every year on Chevening scholarship, but
considering our great achievements in the past two years, the number of slots has
almost quadrupled from 18 to 70 for academic year 2015-16. So we do require a
dedicated staff for alumni engagement as currently we do not have the capacity to run
the programme and do alumni engagement effectively.
The success of Chevening now relies on: a. our ability to build and maintain
relationships with wider alumni in the country b. For the sustainability of recently
launched Chevening Alumni think tank c, Greater post & FCO involvement i.e. through
alumni fund projects, pre departure briefings, Chevening award giving ceremonies, d)
the promotion of the Chevening brand in Pakistan.

He/she will assist Chevening team in achieving Chevening projects objectives; we are
aiming to bid for 50,000 next year for alumni engagement projects. A key element of
this role will be imaginatively looking for opportunities to make a limited cash budget go a
long way, maximising the potential gains of low/ no cost opportunities and drawing on
alumni and existing contacts and relationships. The 2015/16 academic year will see the
BHC recruit approximately 70 Masters students with whom the jobholder will have
